I didn't know James O'Brien was a Spurs fan but here he is serving up word salads to a football forum......

As I said before a lot of words not a lot of substance.

    Kind of fun to see:
-a manager who leaves and then his team starts performing better is either (or possibly both):
    1. Good at building teams
    2. Bad at getting performances out of his players
-a manager who leaves and then his team starts performing worse is either (or possibly both):
    1. Bad at building teams
    2. Good at getting performances out of his current players

Which kind of manager is preferred for a rebuild?
Mourinho has done well with building teams and managers taking over after him often do well. There is little data about the manager who preceded him, what little there is might indicate that building teams is not his strength. Due to the scarcity of data that indication might of course be incorrect.

There are arguments that for players then class is permanent while form is temporary - give them more time. Their form will get better again and they'll get better with experience.
For managers then it seems to be that they lose their abilities after one or two seasons. Their experience makes them worse.

I'd have thought that it would be the opposite. That players get worse as they age, their physical abilities decline and that decline is only partially compensated by their experience. But apparently we should have patience with the players who played well three years ago and the manager who did well three years ago is in terminal decline....

I believe the current team is still in a rebuild, I believe that now even a team such as Brighton might have a better DM and a better play-maker than Spurs. (Bissouma and Gross)
My fear was never that Spurs would do what Leeds did and collapse, my fear was and is that Spurs would do what Arsenal has been doing and is doing. Bad recruitment which they tried to fix by firing and hiring managers. Hasn't worked yet and I don't think it will work for them nor do I think it would work for Spurs.

For me then it is about accepting that Spurs is in a rebuild and accepting that rebuilds aren't quick. Going for a quick fix again and again and again might be slower than doing the rebuild. Another transfer-window where the weaknesses are addressed is in my opinion better than going for the spectacular of firing the manager and buying some flair-player while neglecting the boring but necessary.

& just for the fun of it, the opinion of Glenn Hoddle:
    https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-glenn-huddle-rebuild-money-b931706.html

"There has got to be a reconstruction of the squad. I hear ‘Tottenham have a great squad’, but I do not get that. They have got a couple of great players, but the squad is nowhere near deep enough and there are players there who are just not good enough if you want to get into the Champions League."

Obviously Glenda doesn't realise how good this squad actually is.
Should be playing to its strengths all out attack ........

The talk of Rodgers coming is laughable he's not gonna be interested in the gig when it's currently a step down with a squad full of bang average players with attitude problems.
You lot wanna hope Ten Hag is genuinely interested because otherwise it's gonna be from a group of Martinez Southgate Potter Mason.

    That really will be dross

Since Mourinho has left/gone then it might be time to evaluate.

    The bad:
-he took too long in finding the best/preferred CB-pairing
-too much experimentation in formation which is strange criticism for a manager said to be too rigid
-playing Sissoko too much. Playing Sissoko is a bad choice in about 9 out of 10 matches, playing Sissoko is surrendering the midfield and doing backs to the wall defending. He cost Spurs progression in the EL and cost Spurs the final in the LC. Putting him in when defending leads cost Spurs a lot of points in the league
-forgot to add that he had at times Son out to defend wide left, Son has many strengths but defending is not one of them

    The good:
-brought in reinforcements for the area most needing strengthening - CM
-brought in Reguillon who is still young and often plays rashly but might get to cool down
-brought in the typical backup GK - HG, experienced and willing to be on the bench. Having a non-HG back-up GK is in my opinion a bad idea that needed to be fixed

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and I believe that a team is only as strong as its weakest starter. The teams with better squads, stronger weakest links than Spurs (in my opinion)
-Manchester City. Aguerro is injury prone but their strength in attack can cope with him out
-Liverpool. Many injuries, might still pass Spurs in the league
    -Chelsea. No obvious weakness
-Leicester. Thin squad and possibly vulnerable to injuries to key-players but better balanced starting eleven
    -Manchester United. No obvious weakness

    Spurs weakness:
-some say that at least one CB, the RB and a CM are not good enough. With three starters in need of replacement then I am not sure how any manager can lift the 6-7th best squad into top 4
-I am more of the opinion that CM is the weakest link

The expectation from some appears to be that Ndombele can take the ball in the defensive third, dribble through the defensive third and the middle third and after getting the team up all on his own to the attacking third then finally either shoot from distance or open up the defence with a great pass. Possibly unrealistic expectations...
I'd say that he can be great in either the defensive third and the middle third or great in the middle third and the attacking third.
Also, I'd consider the best way from the defensive third to the attacking third is by passing, dribbling should be the exception not the rule/plan. Lo Celso might be able to fill in now that he is no longer injured.

The squad is in my opinion unbalanced and I'd consider a balanced squad to have greater chance of success than a squad filled with good to great attacking midfielders/wingers/strikers.
