With the rumours circulating over Lyon forward Clinton Njie and West Brom star Saido Berahino (maybe even Chicharito) both potentially on their way to White Hart Lane to replace Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor, it has to be said that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has to be thinking about fielding two strikers in the starting XI in the near future.

While Harry Kane was a revelation last term, he ran his socks off. Harry would routinely check into the midfield to receive the ball and make a surging run up field. Now, I’m not saying he stops doing this- it was pretty effective at times- but he needs a break from running 12 kilometers each and every game.

While Spurs never found the proper strike partner in Soldado or Adebayor, there is hope that one of Berahino or Njie (or Chicharito) will be able to form a fruitful partnership with the young England international.

Certainly, if one or both or all of these strikers are brought to White Hart Lane, they will have to see the field. The rumoured asking prices for both will warrant time on the field, thus practically forcing Pochettino into playing two strikers up top.

And is this a bad thing? We know that Soldado was a good link up player but not a target man, and Adebayor was his opposite. Neither could (or were allowed) to form a continuing partnership with Kane. Berahino should be given every chance in the world to prove that he and Kane can find chemistry. Imagine Kane being allowed to expend less energy in consistently tracking back, or when he does, having a capable creative and forceful outlet to deliver the ball to. The addition of two would allow for more squad rotation in the Europa League, League Cup, and FA Cup. Spurs could field a dangerous offensive side in every competition….something they should do more often, especially in Europe.

But when/if these guys arrive, who gets dropped? For me, it will be whoever isn’t performing in the midfield at the time. Sure, the player who is initially dropped might feel slighted, but that’s football.

And judging by recent rumours as to the love that the players feel for Poch, maybe it doesn’t matter. Maybe the players will be content getting top level cup games and competing for four midfield spots on the weekends in the Premier League? Anything is possible, but one thing we will know in a few days or weeks is if Poch will change things up and make Spurs more dangerous by adding a second striker into the starting XI.

I personally think that we could try this with Chadli as he seems to play more like an "inside forward" then a winger. I think Berahino would be the ideal purchase and with rumours of WBA being interested in Fazio I would bid 17 mil and Fazio.

Interesting idea worth considering. But we are getting late with offensive acquisitions and this will have consequences on effective partnering.

Charlie Austin is the best striker available at a decent price. He has proven he can score goals in the premier league for a rubbish team. He is also English which means he understands the culture. He has a great attitude and wont want to leave the club.

No way will this happen. The only system that would befit two strikers is a 352 and it needs a pre season working on which we have not. The same system will be used but with the supporting three asked to give more width and support to Kane. Plus the obvious extra pace that njie
    Brings. Berahinho hopefully likewise.

Not sure Poch will ever change his system, however Chadli did seem to play a little further forward and inside than normal.
However this and Erikson/Dembele moving inside all the time leaves our full backs terribly exposed.
Watching Real Madris lose the ball they retreat into two banks of four before regaining the ball and attacking, we just seem to go anywhere.
Do not like the the split centre halves and a midfield player dropping into the space, would like to see the back four stay as a back four and play to defend, let the midfield do the attacking .
Austin would be a good call also, if Poch is going to play just one way we need a player who is similar to Kane.
