It’s been another crazy year to be a Spurs fan. It’s never straight forward, and it’s never stress free, and this year has been no exception to those rules.

2014 started in the best possible fashion with our 2-1 away win at Old Trafford on the very first day of the year, and that month was a rollercoaster of emotions in itself as we crashed out of the Cup away at Arsenal and saw Man City hit 5 at the Lane.

The year continued as it had begun as we said bye-bye to Tim Sherwood and Hola (or something) to Mauricio Pochettino, after the 2013/14 season became synonymous with Spurs getting hammered by the likes of Chelsea, City and Liverpool.

We welcomed new names, the likes of Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason and of course Harry Kane all embedding themselves into a revolutionised Spurs side. Christian Eriksen made himself at home while Erik Lamela raised the roof off ours’ with his Rabona magic, and Roberto Soldado missed the barn door while Hugo Lloris guarded ours with his life.

But who was our Player of 2014? There really are only a few stand-outs…

    Hugo Lloris

This guy has been unreal pretty much since he started life at Spurs (forgetting the whole Brad Friedel episode..) and 2014 was his best year yet. He rounded it off in perfect style with his Man of the Match performance against Man United at the weekend but the reaction said it all. The watching Spurs faithful were the most underwhelmed of anybody because we’ve seen scenes like that for 2 years. He kept 14 clean sheets last season with 5 so far this term – and boy has he worked hard for them.

    Check out Hugo’s 2014 highlights here…

    Christian Eriksen

After a pretty slow start to his Spurs life, Eriksen has really become the player we expected him to be when he signed from Ajax as part of our “Magnificent (not so Magnificent) 7” two summers back. Excluding penalties, Eriksen has the most goals from midfield than anyone else with his 13 strikes, and only Yaya Toure has been involved in more than his 21 goals and assists. This season alone, his goals have earned us 11 points, with memorable late winners against Hull and Swansea to his name. Christian has given us some great times this year and he’s been our most creative spark.

    Christian’s 2014 highlights are here, too…

    Harry Kane

How could we leave this guy out? He only made his first Premier League start for Spurs at the end of April under Tim Sherwood but Kane has become a star from the foundation. He ended last season in the starting eleven and hit 3 in 3 against Sunderland, West Brom and Fulham before having to work his way back into the side under Pochettino. This season he’s made himself the number 1 striker at the club with an England call-up surely not far off following his 15 goal haul already this campaign, including 7 goals in Europe. His hat-trick against Asteras was the best night of the season as he finished up in goal, and he’s performed just as well in the league with quality goals such as the one away at Aston Villa.

    Here’s Hurri-Kane’s highlights from 2014

Harry Kane has been brilliant for us and cant be far off an England call up. Eriksen has come up with some terrific last gasp winners and is growing into one of the leaders of the team. But for me Hugo Lloris is our player of the year, he has got us through so many difficult games, and is argueably the best keeper the club has ever had. Coys

Hugo was my vote, Eriksen unlucky really to have Hugo steal the show mainly down to the worst defence in Spurs History, Hugos shirt should really have a cape!

It has to be Hugo. He did have some bad moments last season playing as sweeper and his distribution was off at times. The latter is better, but still has some rickets in his repertoire. However his athleticism and speed make him second only to deGea this season. Will we keep him.....unlikely unless we win something.

Hugo is our best player by a long way. He has been heroic and fearless and weve looked much better with him as captain.

It is between Lloris and kane. I think if we were talking about most improved player, then kane would win hands down. Game after game he has improved his all round play, he is a good goalscorer and he will find himself in the England team in due course.
Best player though is definitely lloris. He has kept us in games and earned us as many points as not.
Eriksen is a good player but his performances in 2014 have been too inconsistent to consider him for this award.
So, Lloris it is and he will have to be at the very best this evening. He is going to have a lot of work to do.
