With a generation of Belgian players such as Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany and Romelu Lukaku infiltrating the Premier League, Spurs have been quick to jump on the bandwagon and currently have three first-teamers from the European country on their books.

The Telegraph today claim that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in adding another of Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele’s countrymen to the squad, with Spurs said to have made an enquiry for Everton’s Kevin Mirallas.
The report claims that the Toffees are reluctant to part company with the 27-year-old however and want to keep him at the Merseyside club for the time being.

Reports across Europe have linked both Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid with moves for Mirallas this January, as his contract situation is yet to be addressed.

The former Olympiakos attacker has 18 months left on his current deal at Goodison Park and there has been no news of whether the forward will extend or look for a new challenge elsewhere.

Spurs fans caught a glimpse of what Mirallas is capable of in our 2-1 victory over Roberto Martinez’s men back in November, with the Belgian opening the scoring before Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado netted for the North London hosts.

Mirallas has started 11 Premier League games this season but with competition for places in the Everton squad is not a nailed-on starter.

    Verdict

Personally I feel that Mirallas is an ideal potential acquisition but I’d be surprised if Everton were willing to let him go.

The 27-year-old is really versatile in the fact that he could play on either wing or as a central striker if the need arose and as such would provide excellent competition for places at White Hart Lane.
With Kane, Eriksen and Chadli harbouring the goalscoring load this term, Mirallas’inclusion in the side alongside the trio would add another threat.

He has already netted five strikes in the Premier League this season, scored eight last season and six in his debut campaign.

Although rarely deployed as an out-and-out striker at Everton due to the presence of Lukaku, Mirallas’ final season at Olympiakos in 2011-12 shows that he can play the position - he scored 20 goals in 27 games for the Greek side.

Although he would take time to fit into a new team and club culture, Mirallas already has a couple of years’ experience in English football, which would make him an ideal mid-season signing.

With Spurs supposedly keen to bolster their attacking ranks, signing a player like the Belgian who can play as a central striker, but not only as one, will also ensure that Kane’s development is not blocked.

Mirallas’ contract situation is an interesting one but the Merseysiders will surely be keen to keep him at the club and as such Spurs’ enquiry could well be a waste of time.

However, if there is an opportunity for the Belgian to be bought due to his contract running down, either now or in the summer, Mirallas would be quite a shrewd acquisition in my opinion.

Would be a great signing for us n exactly the type of player we need. Quick. Works his socks off. Adds much needed goals and assists from midfield. Good age. Prem proven. More importantly covers 2/3 bases which gives the squad more depth meaning we could let a couple extra bodies leave and no need to bring a central striker in really unless we sign a young one with potential who won't necessarily expect to start each week. What box does he not tick ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅

Agree whats not to like, smart player with good pace, plays both sides and scores a few. its about time we started bringing in EPL experienced players in thier prime.

Agree this would be a great signing but it wont happen, for this to happen it would need well thought out strategy and drive from a combined Mitchell Poch Baldini and Levy to make it happen.
Too many cooks springs to mind, and with Master Chef Ming in hibernation this is even more unrealistic.

Think this is a very realistic achievable target for us. Seems that he could be gettable also with the fact he looks to be running his deal down and in and out of the side. There are three glaring areas of concern in this side. 1) centre half short (one with pace and physicality needed. 2) a cm short who can turn defence into attack quickly and 3) the dynamics of the three attacking mids is all wrong its too slow laboured and lacks creativity. The signing of a konoplplaya miralles Ntep or maybe a couple of them namely the former two would go a long way to address that.
People may think that a striker is needed as a priority but the fact is we struggle to score goals because we don't turn our dominant possession into clear cut chances.

Agree with alot of your points there Fran ive said for a while the supporting 3 need to do more in ways of movement press and play, id welcome mirrales and konoplyanka if it meant lennon and lamela leaving.
But come on we know how it works by now bemoan we have too much deadwood, bemoan we have to sell before we can buy, completely ignore the glaring deficiencies, snooze through the window and when buisness end of the season arrives we fall short.
Then all the targets we shouldve snapped up get bought by the ambitious clubs and we shift a few get in more nobodies n it all starts again.
It would be realistic if we didnt have an idiot in charge of the club but sadly this is not the case.

This would be a great signing, with Konoplynaka who is highly rated. Has anyone actually seen much of Konoplynaka's play? Is it good? And who is Ntep?

    Agree on everything here.

Premier League proven, direct in his running and has end product.

May cost a bit of bob, but I'm sure he'd hit the ground running, unlike an import from a league abroad who'd need time to adjust.

My only worry is that other clubs would be sniffing in and around as well as us, but hopefully the Belgian connection may help :)

Konoplyanka may be great, but he, I suppose, speaks no English or Spanish (good to know language is nowadays EPL). He will need time to adjust, obviously, for this and many other reasons. We need performers with EPL experience that could contribute this season. If we take someone from eastern Europe that should be under age of 20.

Watched him a few times now for the ukraine and for dnipro v England sides including spurs always done well. Lovely on the eye and normally plays from the left. A mid attack trio of mirrales konopkplaya n eriksen would be a dream ticket with Kane up top and cabaye and dembele holding

Konoplyanka v England and English clubs: superb ball control, skillful, takes on and gets past defenders, intelligent movement, clever. What's not to like? Maybe could do a bit more defending when we don't have the ball but, all in all, an exciting footballer. Attitude and mentality unknown.

Mirallas could be a good signing but where would we play him? I could see him linking up well with Eriksen and with Mason and Bentaleb. Certainly better than coco the clown, Lamela.

Most effective for me coming in from the right wing between full back and centre half

Wouldn't let him anywhere near taking Penny's tho ha ha
