Second string just don't cut it for Spurs

I have said on many occasions that as Spurs headed in this glut of games, it was a period that would make or break our season and in a week started that with so much optimism for Spurs, has ended with thoughts now turning to the unthinkable.
I have repeatedly stated that Spurs need to make signings in the January transfer window, something that our manger disagrees with. Our second string players are simply not good enough, neither in skill nor attitude. Simply not good enough.

As soon as I saw the team sheet today I was worried. Paulinho is one of the worst players who I have seen a Spurs shirt for years. He is lazy and I wouldn't pay the man in soot. Lamela is just not good enough for the Premier league. He is too light, he is a one trick pony and whoever thought he was worth our biggest ever transfer fee should be sacked. Yes Mr Baldini, I am looking right at you!

Chiriches and Kaboul defy words. Positionally they are easy to play against and again are simply not good enough.

Soldado tries hard but for goodness sake we spent £26 million for him to score goals which he has not done. I admire his work rate but the fact is that he does not do the job he was signed to do and that is not acceptable. At all.

On Twitter today, as we headed in to the final ten minutes with a one goal lead, someone posted that 'Spurs were magnificent.' What game was that person watching? We had lots of possession, yes, but we were slow, laborious and never looked like adding to our lead and then capitulated in true Tottenham style in that last 7 minutes.

The performance was indeed similar to that on Wednesday night and we now must go to Sheffield this coming Wednesday and play our strongest team. No Vorm, no Chiriches, no Adebayor, no Soldado, no Kaboul. If we go out on Wednesday, our season could be all but over and I am afraid that although results have picked up over Xmas and the New Year, there will be a few people to blame.

Firstly, Franco Baldini must be sacked. He has wasted money like he was throwing away sweets and Daniel Levy has allowed him to do so. He has say back and is like a modern day Nero watching his Empire burn while he 'fiddles.'

I like Pochettino and he will bring a lot of of young talent through but on too many occasions this season, his decisions and team selections have been poor.

If he still believes that we do not need to buy, and buy big in the January window, I will start to seriously question what is going on in his head, I really will.

I still believe we will win on Wednesday but only if we play the very strongest team that we have. There is zero room for area and we must not allow our season to peter out to nothing.

Now, more than ever, COME ON YOU SPURS

PS: 'let's all laugh at Chelsea!'

What an absolute joke again, can't score from open play at home to a side we should be beating easily, same thing happened against Sheffield UTD and we struggled against Sunderland too, if Daniel Levy doesn't go out now and secure a couple of CLASS strikers he has to go.

I agree. Definitely with attitude. Mason, Bentaleb, Kane, Eriksen, Lamela have all shown they can work hard and grind out a result for Spurs. But the other players with as good or better talent shows lack of responsibility that causes Spurs to lose games, and appear lethargic.

    uses inverted wingers
Hurry up and sack this mug

He sets up his team with square pegs in round holes
Despite results we in the main have been poor
    Still conceding too many goals
    Not scoring enough
    Sack this mug
    Huddle hoddle hoddle hoddle

I wasnt there today, but from seeing the team sheet I knew we would struggle. We have a reasonable good first 11, however we can't make wholesale changes and still pick up results. The answer can't be another manager, but I just can't see when Pochettino has had a positive influence on the team. The guy selected Kaboul and Adeyabour as captains, neither should be anywhere near the first 11 and cant say they lead by example of the pitch. It took him the first half of the season to realise Erikson isnt a left winger, started playing him in the middle and he picked up assists and goals, now he has started to move him wide again.....

    The answer is another manager
Poch is making too many bad decisions
We need some one who understands football inside out
    Look at the Sheffield game
Ben Davies had no cover the whole first half
And he died not change it
Their winger had 15 sometimes 20 yards of space to run into with the ball
    U10s management
    He has to go

  7. I can only think that Pochettino is being forced to play certain players, in an attempt to boost their profile's before we try to sell them on, and Jesus do we need a striker, if not two, someone like Cabaye to pull the strings in midfield, and Konyplyanka on the left wing. Levy isn't going to buy though, too tight, and too stuborn. This result is even more depressing, now that Citeh and Chelski are out, as we would have had a real chance of winning the cup (with our first team obviously)!!

We're in a total false position in the League and this result is just a cycle coming back to bite us after some completely undeserved injury-time winners we've scored this season. We've played like donkeys for most of the season and been getting away with it.

League Cup on Weds? Big deal!!! We haven't won a proper trophy in over 20 years!!! This is a joke! Let's all laugh at Chelsea? You need to get a reality check, son!

I cannot see the managers logic in putting out 2CD string player's also our top goal
Scorer Kane playing behind the front striker

I fully agree with this article. But it is not just the second string which is lacking, the first team is not up to much either.

There are too many average players in the squad and a real lack of creativity.

Hoddle said in December that the team was lacking special players. This is blatantly obvious. To be a top team and to follow in the tradition of previous Spurs teams, we need to have at least a couple of gifted players. The kind of players who do something different and unexpected. The ones who can produce a piece of magic when needed.

Special players that have played in UK include Hoddle, Zola, Di Canio, Ginola, Le Tissier, Bergkamp, Gascoigne, Waddle, Berbatov, Cantona, Brady, Prosinecki.

  12. Guys let's calm down we have reliance and good attitude better than before so poch has to be given time. Today's howler and poor finishing punished us if only poch started our first team and subbed once we have gone a few goals up. To start with b string was risky and proved to be. We have goals in us we have seen that with Burnley Chelsea recently. However we need to start with our strengths however poch is under pressure to start fringe players on big wages so dnt blame him. The fringe players seem to be in sulk mode so don't give as much. If we can get to Wembley and finish top 5 it's a good season for poch. Summer he can manage new squad and we improve from there. Poch must be given time he's wearing someone else's clothes. Let him build his own wardrobe!

While I agree that today was disappointing and that our second string do seem to be out of their depth (I'd persist with Lamela and Soldado unless good bids come in - the rest can go)...on what planet would our season be over if we went out on Wednesday? We'd still have the Europa to aim for - which gets you a CL place this season, and we're still in touching distance of top four!

Today wasn't good, but let's not get dramatic.

Think porch had every right and need to rotate for weds match v sheffutd that game has to take priority! Also he has to give others game time to try and play there way
Into the managers first team just as Kane Townsend and mason have. Others are simply in the shop window. The team today was strong enuf to progress but some individuals have shown poch they are not good enuf for the league 11. Now u can blame strikers all you like but they aren't even getting chances to miss due to lack of creativity and pace in the squad!

As I have had to on numerous occaisions let me bring an air of reality to proceedings-
we won't win any cups this season and we won't finish top 4, so those talking about Europa are in a dream world, those who think we'll do Chel53e again or Liverpool in the league cup are in a dream world, those who think this current team will sustain a top 4 challenge are in a dream world, those that think Enic and Levy are guiding us to the next level are in a dream world, those that think Lamela & Soldado will come good are in a dream world, those that think Poch is the man to kick this team forward are in a dream world, those who think we'll have a new stadium by 2020 are in a dream world !

Until Levy is gone we are a joke club, spend nothing, pay peanuts, charge top whack, sell your best cling onto the average don't shift the dross and people think this is a model for success - dream world!

We're in a 'transitional' well why aren't we doing anything any different then? The transfer window is open we are lacking in quality and are over loaded with poor players, yet here we are as per usual doing nothing.

    Levy & Enic & Baldini OUT !!!!!!

Some great results today. Well done Bradford and Borough ! We should be beating the Foxes at home and the players picked today ought to have seen it as a chance to tell Poch that they were good enough for the first eleven. Pochetinno didnt buy or choose the majority of todays starting eleven yet takes the stick for todays result ! Lets get behind 'Potch' for the long haul. Am fantasising that todays result is part of Levys masterplan to win the Europa Cup and qualify for the Champs League ! You never know. Coys.

3 piss poor performances in space of a week to go with all the other,s this season .. Don't see how some of you are so surprised , we,re a damn ordinary side . Im saying it for months we lack quality everywhere . The games we win we scrape by , how many have we been the better side in . Not many unless you think having 65% of worthless possession , sidewards + backwards tempoless passing means you are a good team ..The false god of modern football worthless possession .. He should have started this fella , he should have started that fella , its all bollicks . Doesn't matter who he starts we get the same turgid **** . He has to mix it up with all the games we,re playing , and the massive squad he has . Was the same for the last 2 managers . Should have played this fella , should have played that fella . Its all nonsense .. We, ve tried them all , in all sorts of diff combinations and what changes performance wise . Nothing more often then not . Sometimes we scrape a win sometimes we don't but the turgid performances are nearly always the same . Spent a fortune on midfielders and the best combination in the middle is two guys from the youth ranks . And its not like there anything special . 2 promising players but nothing really .. Name me one team in top 6 that these lads would get a start for , no make it top 10 .. Yet this is our number one midfield partnership .. Says everything about where we are quality wise .. Some of yee were creaming yourselves last weekend after we scraped past a woefull Sunderland , but couldn't accept the simple fact that they had the two or three proper chances in the game .Ok they didn't take them but it tells a story , if your willing to view it in a non biased way .. Could go on and on but ill end up like our football , regurgitating the same old **** ..

Sadly the only plan levy has is to make himself money. He couldn't care less whether we are in Europe or Milton Keynes.

I'm embarrassed to be a Spurs fan because we have a bunch of sots not playing for the shirt!
What was Levy thinking when he hired Franco? He's wasted so much money on mediocre footballers that could get a run of games elsewhere.
I look at Southampton and I see football club that is true to their mission. It is evident in their position in the league table. What do we have a chairman that is a passionate business man, football is his latest enterprise. We are a club lacking vision and substance; we lost to a club facing relegation. Great job Levy, plonker

It was just so so poor. The team has no talents, no flair. Kane makes up for it in desire. Mason, Bentaleb, our youth products love this club and so much is obvious. It's the players we bring in that ruin us. We could do without all bar Eriksen of the 7 we brought in last year. We need two strikers to partner Harry Kane, we need three dynamic midfielders, we need Kaboul and Adebayor to be released from their contracts and we need to back the manager in the transfer window. Levy shouldn't be telling Pochettino what XI to play, he's the chairman not the manager. I still maintain, however, that we should beat Sheffield UTD and maybe we can beat Chelsea or Liverpool in the final. I've given up on the top 4 because:
We don't consistently beat teams below us. This is why the Arsenal have always got into the top 4. You never see teams like Burnley, Leicester, and Stoke go to Arsenal and win. It just doesn't happen. Whereas when they come to the Lane, they'll take points off us.
We don't have the strength in depth. We have depth - but no strength in it. This much is obvious from today's performance.
Because Levy runs us like a business. As already mentioned, todays team was a shop window. Levy is unprepared to dig out 15million for a striker we have needed since before Bale's departure. Ridiculous.
