What do you expect though when pitted against the wealth of City, Chelsea or backing of Liverpool?

  2. THFC Guest

Ossie Ardiles, Gerry Francis, Christian Gross, George Graham, Terry Venables to name a few that were from Sugars time…any of them better than Poch?

How about Burkinshaw, Shreeves or Pleat? The list could go on..

I know that you always have a balanced view but when you really look at what we have achieved under the circumstances, it’s very hard to think of anyone that could have done any better job

Might it be time to create a thread where guests are allowed to post and lock the rest to be posting by members only?

As is then there is one guest poster whose posts are:
    1. Full of blind love of a past manager
    2. Full of blind hate towards a past manager
    3. Dull insults

Few insights from that poster, claims are made without the backing by links and his personal opinions are claimed by him to be 'facts'.

As a guest then I'd expect politeness from him, there is very little of that & if he'd become a member then the members who see him as I do can put him on ignore and not having to see his posts.

To the guests who does provide value, sorry but the guest who are abusive is the one who made the suggestion necessary. It is not my decision to make but I do hope that my suggestion is considered.

We have like 3.5 regular registered posters, so members only forum is not a good idea.

    This seems legal.
    This is not ok.

I believe your expectations from a football forum are a bit of exaggerated.
Putting people on ignore seems harsh, but this is your choice of course.

Lets give it the last try, whoever is personally offended by any Guest must use 'Report' link under the post (or PM me.)
I'll try to come up with a quick solution. Thanks!

    Didn't stop others...

And then there's the pitiful Cup exits in his time against league 1 sides & Gent etc

Are we still pretending that Poch didn't spend £400 m over 5 seasons to add to a very good inherited core of players but instead of getting in talent where needed to push on bought us the likes of Sanchez Aurrier Sissoko Ndombele LoCelso Foyth Sessegnon Jannssen etc

THFC you say you can’t compare football from the past with today but you miss the point that the players in the past would train differently and would be fitter if they were playing now.Spurs had all time greats in Dave Mackay Danny Blanchflower Jimmy Greaves John White to name a few who would shine today.I was also an admirer of the busby babes who were the best club side before Munich.I believe a chap called Pele played in the past and he weren’t bad and played in the greatest international team ever seen.

I hear you and I’m not disagreeing about any of those players but the times were very different so it’s hard to say IMO. Would they have performed at the same level if they played today is impossible to know but the game is very different and the level seems higher across a far greater number of teams thanks to technology/money etc.

I am not in any way shape or form doubting what you are saying for the time but times have changed significantly in terms of the game and how is played. Even the addition of VAR, what would that have changed, for example?

That’a not what I’m saying at all….I’m saying no one else ever spent the billions that Chelsea, City and Utd did in comparison in those times and somehow still managed to abide by the FFP rules

Sounds a little one sided…perhaps just make the site a printed monthly newsletter so only those with the opinion you agree with are included. You would have at least 3 subscribers…

Maradona of the 80s could play now and would still be better than most of today's players.

The one-sidedness of only seeing the good in Pochettino and only seeing the bad in Mourinho is not quite fair and balanced views but somehow I am the one with the one-sided view?
Are you sure that your comment isn't about you and that you are not projecting something on me?

Seems to me that you are one of the ones with one-sided views. Or is there anything bad at all about Pochettino? Anything good at all about Mourinho?

That’s not really the point I’m trying to make. Of course there have been great footballers but it’s just a different game now and of course Maradona would have been a great player today but would a lot of those from 60’s and 70’s fall into that same category? It’s just hard to compare then and now is what im trying to say

Oh dear….I’m pretty sure if you actually read the posts you will see that there is a common acknowledgment that the end of Poch’s time wasn’t great. There was also support for JM in terms of wanting him to succeed despite not believing he was the right appointment in the first place (and before you reply arguing that there wasn’t, go back through the posts and read them). JM seemed a likeable enough character but our performances were just awful to watch and our morale took a very similar path to that at the end of his tenures with both Chelsea and Utd. It was great JM cleared out some poor quality players but it wasn’t great that we approached every game with a mindset of stealing a goal then defending deep for 80 mins.

No projecting at all…but for everyone, like you that says poor JM, had no backing, had to work with Levy….then have the cheek to say Poch had plenty of backing and should have been stronger with Levy just cements the fact that there isn’t an equal measure of the environment between them. They operated in almost identical circumstances and one had us feared by most in the league, consistently challenging in the top 4 and had a really positive vibe around the squad…the other didn’t.

Oh and I’m not asking for you or anyone else to be removed/blocked/ignored/silenced despite the fact I really don’t agree with a lot that you come out with….

It would appear that this post has just become a bit of a bitch fest seriously your arguments are rather churlish if you don't agree so be it but trying to prove you opinion is better than someone else is pointless the only thing we can probably agree on (maybe not all of us) is that for a few seasons it was exciting and due to numerous poor decisions from Levy ENIC (shiny new stadium instead of investment in players) Poch (allegedly not wanting players happy with squad etc) Players (too many substandard performances) Jose (great manager when players buy into what he's selling) so we face a new season with a manager with no experience of the premier league and probably very little to spend will it be a success no idea but I hope it's better than it has been recently

I am not asking for people to be removed, I am asking for most posts to be for members only. Yes that would allow me to put people who offer me nothing on ignore and yes I would do so.

One poster repeatedly comes with dull insults, he refuses to acknowledge the drop off in performances for the last year of Pochettino. He refuses to acknowledge anything good about Mourinho.
The performances under Pochettino in his last year did not inspire any fear in the opposition, it was often quite painful to watch the football being served by Pochettino during his last year. A balanced view of Pochettino would include that. It might also include the negative vibe surrounding the team during Pochettinos last months in charge.

I'm bored of the building up of a false image of Pochettino, for me then he was good for a couple of years and then he wasn't. He's gone, he left Spurs with a squad which all but one poster here appear to agree that it had run its course. Yes, I'd like to be able to put him on ignore.

The people who likes his post would still see them & if he were to continue would his insults then yes I'd hope that he'd be blocked.

What would be so horrible about becoming a member?
As far as I can tell then nothing changes except the risk of being put into ignore and risk of getting banned. For the polite posters then nothing would change at all.

Dear oh dear what's been going on here?

You make an interesting point about modern football and the past. I tend to agree... much has changed in terms of the sheer professionalism and money involved these days. The best players of 60 years ago wouldn't necessarily all translate to the modern game... the most naturally gifted yes... but no doubt many would be shown to be quite average by current standards

The new season starts in 9 weeks time and we still don’t have a manager appointed.I assume that pre season must start at least 4 weeks from when season starts so when is the new manager going to get his playing staff sorted.I hear all sorts of rumours that our new director of football has irons in the fire with a few Italian player’s but unless we get our finger out we will as usual lose out to other clubs. We were supposedly looking at Gonzalez from Stuttgart but Brighton have agreed fee for him.is this going to be the norm as I can’t believe that Paratici will be happy if Levy does his normal and refuse to pay the market rate
