January the 1st is a significant day in many calendars and diaries. If you’re not led in bed nursing your biggest hangover of the previous year, you’re there in front of the mirror convincing yourself that this year, is definitely ‘your year’ (especially if you support a team that begins and ends with ‘L’).

In terms of their football club, fan’s desire for the New Year is usually the same as it is all year round – ‘winning more games’ or ‘signing that certain player’. Unlike people, football clubs do not invest in that ‘New Year, new me’ mentality, but if we, the fans, could make New Year’s resolutions for our beloved football clubs, what ones would we make?

Here, in no particular order, are some of the possible 2015 New Year’s resolutions for Tottenham Hotspur...

    ENIC/LEVY/LEWIS OUT
A trail of thought that has picked up an extraordinary amount of pace in the last year. The sacking of Andre Villas-Boas sparked the flame in December 2013 and some of us haven’t looked back since. This has culminated in chants, banners and popular social media groups. Some us will hope that 2015 spells the end of Daniel Levy and ENIC’s involvement with THFC, although others remain solidly on the fence.

ONE GAME WHERE OUR CORNER DOESN’T HIT THE FIRST MAN
For as long as I can remember, I haven’t seen a game where at least one Tottenham corner hasn’t hit the first man. We’ve had fairly capable players in recent years from Rafael van der Vaart to Christian Eriksen, who possess the ability to whip in a mean set-piece. But, it seems no matter who is taking the corner or who we are playing, many of our attempts are stifled by the man on the near post.

    REMOVAL OF THE DEADWOOD
With Pochettino chopping and changing his starting XI this season, it has brought to attention how many (useless) players we have in our squad. Depending on our Head Coach’s needs, there are probably around 10 players who could possibly be on their way out of North London. We fans will be hoping certain ones make way in either of this year’s windows in order for new arrivals. The question remains who!

AN ACTUAL DATE WHEN THE NEW STADIUM WILL BE BUILT
The questions regarding our new stadium are never ending and we still seem none-the-wiser. With reports suggesting that we may have to ground share with League One side MK Dons in the 2017-18 season, many of us are left actually wondering whether we will see Spurs in their new stadium in our lifetime, let alone 2017.

FOR THE CURSE OF THE JUJU TO BE LIFTED
When Emmanuel Adebayor hit a run of poor form and fell out of favour, it was suggested that his mother had cursed him with black magic known as juju. What they hadn’t told us though, was that this cure was also attached to our beloved club. Maybe it was juju that caused some of our players to eat lasagne that fateful night before playing West Ham in 2006, or juju that caused Chelsea to upset all the odds and win the UCL in 2012. Whether or not this curse has any real implications, the thing that all Spurs will be seriously hoping for is - better luck in 2015.

ROBERTO SOLDADO TO PROVE HIS WORTH
18 months have passed and we are still waiting for that great, goal-scoring run from the Spaniard. First it was ‘he needed time to adapt’, second was ‘he needs service’, third was ‘he needs one and then they’ll start flying in’, before we have trudged to the conclusion – maybe he just isn’t cut out for it in England and for Spurs. Hopefully Robbie can use 2015 to show us why we paid the money we did for him and reward the faith.

    TO WIN A TROPHY
Whether it’s the FA Cup, Carling Cup or the Europa League – winning a trophy should hold more resonance than that holy, fourth spot in the EPL for fans. After rivals Arsenal won the FA Cup last season, it’s only a matter of time before rival fans start relaying facts in relation to ‘since Spurs last won a trophy’. Even if we don’t do it to avoid stick from rival fans, the least we could do is to win one for ourselves!

Before saying Happy New Year and thanks for your contribution in 2014, the only thing left to ask is – What would be your New Year resolutions in relation to Spurs for 2015?

I wish to watch less Spurs' matches and maybe... no, that's it. I just want to spend a weekend without having a heart attack.

ha ha ha ha Chris, that made me laugh out loud because it is soooo true. My wish for 2015 is to SELL our deadwood (not loan) and for Mopo to buy His players. See where we go from there.

A trophy will turn our season into a good one instead of a mediocre one !!!!

The problem we have is Mr levy doesn't like losing money (who does) but some of the Guys we brought in using the Bale money will never cut it in the PL we paid over the odds for them & now we will need to take a substantial loss to get rid of them!!! Unfortunately Mr won't be willing to do that & will probably tell MP we got to sell before we can buy !!

  6. Buy a proven premier league goalscorer (25 million for the fellow from West Brom has disaster written all over it)

Sell Lamela and cut your losses we could get 15 million from an Italian club (against Burnley was his best game, no matter what he offers going forward he is a liability defending)

Stop persevering with Chadli, the goals will dry up , he still plays football like he has diving boots on.

Once Lamela and Chadli are gone buy two wingers with true pace, if no one has noticed we don't seem to be banging them in and haven't really for six years, even when Harry was there the only time our goal difference was any where near the teams around us was when we scored nine against Wigan .

Last but not least lets have a stadium date, I for one would like to still be breathing when its built

Happy new year to all (except the scum)

I would like that we offer so much money in the summer for a Real Madrid player that the player demands a transfer and they cannot refuse to sell. Not sure though what we would do with a seven-foot basketball player - sell him to Stoke maybe!
Not too sure about 'ENIC out' - sometimes the devil you know is preferable to the septic asset liquidator - although most fans think we would end up with a middle-eastern sugar-daddy.
Most of all I hope we stick with our Academy players and they prove that this is the way forward for football rather than just throwing unlimited money to buy success.

Just to be more decisive in the window doing our business at the start of January rather than haggling and getting the deal done at the end. Yeah it may cost more but loses u points also in doing so.

Wait a second ive had a premonition -

We wont buy anyone of any note this window, Poch will say something along the lines "i er am happy er with tha sqad",
kane will hit an inevitable burn out or injury and wel whimper in around 7th.

We wont see a new stadium this decade, Lloris, Jan and probably Eriksen will all be sold in the summer and Lennon will still be playing for us living off his 1 glory season where he scored a goal.

Lamela will get 4 seasons to 'Settle' before 1 of 2 things happens he either comes good which will mean he will be sold immediately OR he will be found out for the headless chicken he really is and left to run contract down like a poorer more expensive bentley.
Soldado will continue on this rich vein of 1 goal in 8 months form to make fools of all the doubters.
Adebyor will see his contract out in an act of utmost loyalty to us.
Daniel Levy will recruit even more pointless recruitment members of staff to help shoulder the brunt of responsibility for zero input from the board regarding transfers thus saving his own inept skin even longer.

  10. Lennon will never play for another club because he knows they will rumble that he cant kick a ball correctly to save his life.

In an ideal world I'd like to see Cabaye and Bony join Spurs in the window ! Can't see other clubs coming to buy our "deadwood" at anything like a reasonable price, so we're probably stuck with the present squad. Hope Poch has pinpointed a couple of surprise targets that add something to our team, and that Levy goes and gets them. We do have a big, strong squad and are still in a number of competitions. Its not over til the fat lady sings ! Our defence has improved of late but we can't put too much on Harry Kanes shoulders to provide the goals. To add another attacking dimension to the side would be another step forward. Eriksen is showing his goalscoring ability of late but proper out and out striker would lift the whole club. Coys

Bony or Benteke would be nice, or even better, both. But we all know thats not going to happen. It will be another, sell before we buy window but hey you never know, names like Cabaye and Vidic would put some steel in the spine and also a genuine winger or two.

Well Poch has had 1 window already where he bought a reserve GK, an ok LB, a reserve CM, a reserve RB and Fazio.
Must have thought the 1st team didnt need anything then.
We will not be spending in January so that will be 2 windows of this 'new era' wasted and out of the way for Levy. Then in the Summer we can all talk about signing a striker again end up being short changed and saying Poch needs more time, a couple more windows and lamela will come good.

I agree Felon last window was a disaster tho I think Davies is defo showing to be an upgrade on Rose and dier has shown promise early doors though would like to judge him more once he's played at centre
Half. Fazio although one or two seem to be lauding his partnership with JV I remain unconvinced. Tomorrow's a big test for him v Costa!! Vorm ? It remains to be seen why a second choice keeper was signed at that price-WTS! Stambouli less said the better...
NoNats who would you like to see for the troublesome wing positions? I wanted welbeck and Rodriguez last window but both unlikely for obvious reasons so this window I'm saying Miralles who is quick day direct can play on both wings although I prefer him on the right. He will add goals from that position but can also play as a CF or 2nd striker. Always caused us problems and not fully in favor at Everton at present and for around 12m a player who covers 3/4 positions and EPL proven is a snip.

  17. My comments about aaron lennon will now cease much to the relief of all real spurs fans R.I.P.

Im sorry to say this, but a keeper of Vorms class is likely to only join Spurs to become 1st keeper at some point. Back when he joined I remember thinking that this was likely the result of Lloris planning to leave if the results this season does not lead to a top 4 position.

Im not sure what Eriksen is going to do if Spurs do not qualify for champions league. I remember reading a quote from him, from when he was in Ajax, stating that playing champions league is one of his main priorities when choosing what club to move to. He was likely thinking that Spurs would have a good chance to qualify with the Bale funded purchases (many of us did).

I think getting a champions league qualifying position this season is quite important for the future of Spurs in terms of keeping top players. Hoping for the best in 2015

I wanted Welbeck too but the chairman didnt, I think we missed out on an opportunity to pick up a decent foward there. I dont mind Mirallas, he's a good call and the type of winger that I would like to see at the lane, good pace, EPL proven, and has goals. He's also a realistic target for Spurs.
