Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the Premier League’s top four received a massive boost yesterday as Mauricio Pochettino’s men came back from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in the North London derby.

With confidence and morale sky-high at White Hart Lane and Harry Kane the club’s new hero after another two goals, the scintillating performances of Gareth Bale are starting to become a distant memory.

The Wales international was a superstar for the club and became the world’s most expensive player due to his match-winning antics for Spurs over the course of a couple of years.

While Spurs were winning the North London derby yesterday, Bale stepped out in the Madrid derby, playing the full 90 minutes in Real’s horror show 4-0 defeat to rivals Atletico.

The flying winger has spoken out comparing the two derbies and feels that the vitriol, atmosphere and occasion are just as sizeable in the North London derby as in the Spanish capital.

"I think they are both equal to be honest,” Bale said.

“They are both amazing derbies to play in, both sets of fans are both feisty enough for the game as well as the team.

“They are both very big derbies in the of football and I’ve obviously lucky enough to play in both of them.”

Bale played a star role in Spurs’ only Champions League campaign during his time at White Hart Lane, in which we beat the likes of Inter and AC Milan in a dream run to the quarter-finals.

When quizzed on whether Spurs could qualify for Europe’s biggest competition this year, the Welshman remained positive.

“I think so and I hope so,” he stated in the build-up to the Arsenal game.

“They had a slow start to the season, but they have progressed a lot under the new manager and seem to be building up confidence all the time.

“Yeah, I hope they go on a good run, hopefully beat Arsenal and qualify for the Champions League. And you never know, we could play them next season.”

Spurs were eliminated by Real Madrid during their sole Champions League campaign and it would be something of a fairytale to welcome the European champions back to White Hart Lane if we can finish in the top four this season.

Bale has been undergoing a tough time in Madrid of late, with the Santiago Bernabeu crowd booing him on occasion due to a perceived greediness while in possession.

Talk of coming up against the likes of Real Madrid next season epitomises the feel-good factor surrounding the club at the moment - here’s hoping Pochettino’s brave side can continue their good run of form and qualify for next term’s Champions League.
