Another team in the Lower reaches of the league for Spurs and 3 points again a must. And 3 points were duly delivered as Villa's new boss looked on from the stands.

In anticipation of some saying Spurs were sloppy at times tonight, I agree but to be honest that is more down to some naivety among a very young team, rather than poor management.

Spurs were quick out of the blocks tonight and inside 3 minutes, the ever improving Dembele muscled past his man and slotted home with composure.
What strikes me about this improving Spurs team is just how solid and coherent we are becoming and that is positive. Very positive. Dier looks Like a player who has been at this game for years. He is composed on the ball, his passing is simple and effective and he can beat players and tackle. He is a great talent. And then we have Alli, Dembele and Eriksen playing together and getting better. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a perfect performance but the opposition was woeful. Other than taking our eye off the ball for ten minutes Villa were terrible and the new boss has got more than his hands full. I look at Alli and Dier and Grealish isn't fit to lace their boots!!!

Kane worked hard as usual and his finish for the third was the Kane that's one of our own!!

I was impressed with Lamela tonight. He is not setting the world alight but he is starting doing simple things well and his ball for the third goal showed great awareness.

Alli's goal was well taken, showing maturity belying his years. Taken on his knee and stuck into the bottom corner. Hoddle would be proud son!!

When half time came, Spurs were 2 up without breaking much sweat. Hopefully all that saved energy will come out at the Library on Sunday!!

A final positive, and I know you are all waiting for the negative, but we are winning games and still have Son, Bentaleb, and Mason to come back to full fitness and Mason did well when he came on tonight. At last Spurs are building something. It's not always pretty but we are solid, have young talent, and do you know what, I truly think the future is bright. It's lillywhite!!!

As ever, come on you Spurs!!!!

  2. Mason was rubbish tonight as a sub, he gave the ball away in a dangerous position for which led to the Villa goal! and then that put team under pressure for 5 or 6 minutes! 2nd half we were generally rubbish, by being very withdrawn in our play. But Kane scored a great goal at the end to finish them off. We must play much better in the Arsenal away game this Sunday!

They were woeful and we looked to be just coasting our way through it getting the goals at perfect times .. Was frustrating enough to watch at times i taught , while looking in total control , we had sloppy passing/final ball or we were sloppy in possession and loosing it cheaply , that will bite you in the arse on another day and looked like it might tonight for a short spell before the excellent 3rd .. Also that final 3rd is still a worry in general for me , we don't create nowhere near enough proper chances , we,ve yet to get that recipe correct .. All in all another game down , another 3 points , plenty of room for improvement .. C.O.Y.S ....

    >"Mason did well when he came on tonight."

Erm, no he didn't. He messed up Dier's flow by carrying the ball into Villa's attacking traffic, instead of turning away and moving the ball out of the midfield (as Dembele does so effectively) thus allowing Ayew a scoring shot on goal. The boy's got his work cut out if he's going to replace any of Dembele, Dier or Alli anytime soon..

I was pleased with Spurs tonight. We did take it easy (far too easy) in the second half to let Villa back into the game. I wasn't impressed by how much we panicked, it was Villa after all, but I was immensely proud of the way we cut through them with ease and finished in style for the 3rd and generally gave a very professional performance.

The best player on the pitch tonight was Lamela. This is a kid who came with a large price tag, suffered injuries, boo boys and is known (from his Roma days) as a flair player, but he got stuck into everything and wanted to win every ball tonight for our team. Not only did he set up the winner, but he calmed the team down in the dying minutes with great work rate to win the ball and composure to keep it (something we stopped doing for 1o minutes!). He even supported Walker (who I still think is suspect!) throughout the game. His flair is evident, but I don' think he needs to set the world a light to get the praise he deserves, MOTM for me by a long way!

Great team win tonight! We showed our immaturity by easing up once we went ahead by 2. Thought most of the players had a good game.
Kane worked hard up top and deserved that last minute goal, what a strike...he's back guys!! Lamela put in a fine performance, he defended well all over the pitch and show good composure with the assist to Kane.
Once Dembele came off, I felt Poch should have played Mason up and kept Alli and Dier in front of the defense since they linked well in the back mid. Just having gotten back from injury, it's understandable that Mason's a bit rusty...so no worries. Our back four had a solid game, every now and then Rose/Walker were caught a bit but recovered well.

MOTM would have to be Dembele, he controlled the middle; very calm and collected on the ball. Lamela and Eriksen also put in very good performances, rest up we've got some big games coming up!!! COYS!!

All three goals well taken, lovely team effort for the last finished with a brilliant strike. Agree with others this wasnt our best display but we look cohesive and hopefully reach peak performance for the next games. Looking very sound at the back and Dier has been sensational in the holding role. Still think we are lacking something up front and very interested to see how we line up when Son comes back. Thort Onomah looked good out there and did nothing wrong even tho it was only a few minutes.
Slow build up to a massive month COYMFS....

It was a good team performance against a woeful team... I think that our defence was fine with a very good Walker tonight(his opponent is one of their best player). Our midfield was excellent even if a misunderstanding between Mason and Dier gave their goal and our attacking force was not so bad. To say that Lamela was our MOM is probably a joke! His assist on 3rd goal is very Nice but what he did in front of the goal before that for a player which cost us more than 30 millions £? My MOM is Dier

Great result, but it worries me when we play possession football at the back. Put the best four defenders in the world into Spurs shirts and they would soon cockeral-up playing possession football at the back. I think Toby could well be amongst the four now - he has leadership written all over him.
Same team for Thursday and Sunday - winning will become a habit.

Morning All. I sometimes think I must have been to a different game when I view what others have seen on the night.

That's no criticism of those views, but for me apart from three well taken goals I thought we were not great. From minute 2 to 46 we were extremely painfully boring to watch. Having sat in traffic for hours to get to the game, it seemed a waste of time to be fair.

We did grind out a result against a side that lacked any belief in the first half, but we did what we did against Stoke, made some very basic errors and nearly paid the price.

Alli bless him (good performance) should have been substituted earlier - you could see he was dead on his feet from 70.....wake up Nice But Dim.

Sunday will show how far we have come - we got a point last year and the way the Gooners are playing at the moment you'd take that again, for sure.

I somewhat agree - it was an average performance by most players on the team. There was a lot of passing going on, but not much creativity on the final 3rd. It seems that most of the big chances we get are created by Eriksen, and this is a problem. We need Son back to provide more final 3rd creativity - should be ready Thursday.

Lamelas performance yesterday was good, without being great. He seemed a bit slow at times - spoiled a promising counter-attack by clinging to the ball instead of playing a free Eriksen right away. Apart from that, he was pretty solid all around.

The Dembele sub was a strange one but highlighted a)how important he has become b)how very average mason is.
However after conceding late this is a game spurs often fail to see out traditionally but our game management has massively improved. Played under par v a team fighting for survival with a new manager in the stands this is a banana skin negotiated.
Nice little adjustment Late on moving Lamela across to stop Hutton playing out from right back I noticed too. Very smart.

We weren't outstanding but we didn't need to be. We did what was needed and took the points. In the league we have lost only once season so we can't grumble too much.
Sunday will be the real acid test of how good we really are.
1 or 3 points and a continued unbeaten run will be positive.

I wanted at least a 4-0 result v the worst team in the PL !! But we allowed them to score a very rare goal ! FFS even Sunderland got beat 6-2.. Tottenham sat back on the 2-0 lead and paid for it ! Cant afford anything like that against Anderlecht and certainly not Arsenal !!!!!

IMO, I thought we were average - however, the most important thing was the 3 points and we move on.

Dier looked impressive (again) and Dembele looked strong.

Lets deal with Thursday and then make sure we don't lose Sunday!

Onomah looks promising. I hope boy will play against Anderlecht.

Spurs were above average. Which is hard to measure, really, as there is no dominance in EPL anymore. Similarly, a worst team in EPL is not a woeful team, as it may be perceived. Clarets could have tied the game, but just were out of luck.

  17. No injuries. Three points. Two big games ahead. Play well enough to win while keeping gas in the tank for Thursday and Sunday. Very sound, workmanlike performance. lamela looking more comfortable. Not missing chadli. Now, do you rest players Thursday? Sort of hope not. Except maybe Clinton. No Fazio! Play Carroll? Poch will have tough decisions.
