After being thoroughly outplayed and lucky not to be down one in the first 20 minutes, Tottenham eventually got into the game. After that opening header off the crossbar, Liverpool had few chances.

Spurs looked the stronger side for the latter part of the first half with Kane being denied by Simon Mignolet and Dele Alli having one deflected near the goal line.

The second half was more tame as it looked that both teams were happy to play to a draw. That’s not to say there wasn’t a good deal of action, as the challenges came in thick and fast, but overall not much near goal for either side.

Harry Kane had the best chance of the game when Christian Eriksen found him near the top of the box, but a deflection and a key save kept the game knotted at 0-0. It’s a point that both managers will acknowledge as a good one, but one that both, probably Pochetinno more than Klopp, will think could’ve been three if a little luck was on their side.

    Ratings

Hugo Lloris- 7- Got big when needed on the play that hit the cross bar and bounced dangerously near the line. Good save from Origi in the 78th. Otherwise, not much to do from the Frenchman today. Solid as always.

Danny Rose- 5- Early, it seemed like all he could do was pass the ball to guys in red. Was absolutely clobbered a few times, but the referee saw nothing.

Jan Vertonghen- 7- Bossed the middle of the defense with authority. Liverpool did very little there.

Toby Alderweireld- 7- Like Vertonghen, nothing spectacular, but strong in the center.

Kyle Walker- 5- Still shows far more going forward than defending. Made a key defensive play in the first half on a Liverpool break. Took a half-hearted try off a botched corner but the effort sailed well wide.

Mousa Dembele- 8- My Tottenham man of the match. Controlled the back of the midfleld and was strong on the ball. The Reds needed a tank to knock him off the ball. Showed what he is all about.

Dele Alli- 6- Had a shot saved near the line by a Liverpool defender early. Always active, but no other real chances.

Erik Lamela- 5- Crafty pass to N’Jie early, and is getting feistier getting back. Not much creativity from Erik today.

Christian Eriksen- 5- Seemed like none of his corner kicks get past the first defender.

Nacer Chadli-n/a- Injured his leg early in the first half. Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious.

Harry Kane- 6- Had a good chance in the first half but kept it low and Mignolet got enough. Had another brilliant chance in the 84th but a slight deflection and brilliance from Mignolet get Kane off the score sheet. Last year, those were going in. So it goes.

    Subs

Clinton N’Jie- 5- Looked clueless early as he only passed to Liverpool players. Came into his own with a brilliant side footed attempt that was brilliantly parried away by Mignolet. Came into the game as it went on.

Andros Townsend- Was an 87th minute sub for Erik Lamela.

Overall, Liverpool was obviously fired up and looking to impress new boos Jurgen Klopp, and it showed early. But after Spurs got their feet under them, they looked the only team that would score. In a lot of ways, this is a fair result, but one that could’ve easily have swung Spurs way if not for the brilliance of Mignolet.

It was in many ways a Spursy performance, I felt.
But then if Spursy has gone from losing to Sherwood's Villa at home to not beating Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, then the future is bright.

Kane is trying too hard. He was excellent off the ball and with the ball but in front of goal he needs to just do what he was doing last year. ie hit the net!!!

N'Jie's effort was the right height for the goalie to save. Should have kept it on the ground or high into the corner.

Dembele is our best ball carrier Great performance today just wish he would do it more often .

We were not at the races for the first 30, loose passes everywhere, poor touches and clearly not ready for the Klopp factor, with everybody trying to impress the new manager. Luckily it didn't come to anything.
We finished the last 15 of the first half well, and with a little luck could have been ahead.
What can you say about the second half. You sat there wondering when we were going to create something and before you know where we are, it's over.
As per usual Nice but dim failed to respond to the need to win the game, leaving it 10-15 minutes too late to bring on Townsend for Lamela. He had a poor second half, after a pretty poor first one.
Dembele....for me the stand out player and his best performance for us. Given he was just returning after s lay off I thought he was outstanding.
Walker, Rose, Lamela and Njie very average today. Eriksen not far behind. Can anybody explain how a professional footballer cannot get the ball past the first defender when taking a corner. Fecking hopeless.
Opportunity missed today for three points, as was the Swansea game.
    Definitely a Needs Improvement.

  9. Team not at the races for 1st 20 mins, and lucky not to let in a goal. Better after that but pace of play too slow, no real movement off the ball. But we were unfortunate to not score at least one goal.

Poch's use of subs today was less than poor, N'Jie totally ineffective for 10 mins before some improvement after that, he should have brought on Townsend with 20 mins to go not 5 mins!

Walker's concentration needs to improve, as he x2 lapses put us under pressure. Lamela not very effective - he must be on borrowed time in this third season!

Spurs did not sell Kane for 40 million. That number would come to mind more often should he continue to aim at goalkeepers deep into this season. We would have won with last year Harry.
