POLL: Is Harry Kane "Undroppable"?...

Everyone has bad spells. Everyone goes through times where whatever you do, it seems to be exactly the opposite of what you should have done. Harry Kane is in one of those spells.

It would be unrealistic to expect our young English striker to recreate his 31-goal haul of last season; there were times last year where Kane could take his afternoon nap in the penalty box and he’s still leave the pitch with a goal to his name.

But when it comes to skewing the ball into your own net from 5 yards, it becomes safe to say that Harry Kane isn’t having the best of times on the pitch.

It’s at times like these where the question is begged – are there so-called “undroppables” at Tottenham? Players that will make the teamsheet no matter how shoddy their last performance might be. I’d say that Hugo Lloris understandably falls into that bracket, joined only by the partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. But does Kane?

In our 2-2 draw with Swansea last weekend I thought we looked most threatening when summer signing Clinton N’Jie was on the field. He is certainly a Pochettino signing – running willingly across the Swans’ defence chasing lost causes but pressing so high he gets a nosebleed.

He offers something that Kane lacks; raw pace and the legs to stretch a defence to breaking point. So should N’Jie lead the line against Liverpool this weekend?

Decisions

Dropping Kane would be a drastic decision. However past instances have shown us that players work well under a sudden pressure to perform. The best example I can think of would be back in November 2013 when Manuel Pellegrini took the decision to drop Manchester City and England’s number one goalkeeper Joe Hart in favour of Willy Cabellero; a decision which brought the best out of the stopper in a no-nonsense manner.

In recent times we’ve seen this kind of thing at Spurs, too. Danny Rose got the kick up the proverbial he needed when left-back Ben Davies made the move to White Hart Lane from Swansea City, prompting him to make an England squad for the first time in his career.

Sitting Kane out against Liverpool could give him the fire in his belly he needs to reignite the type of form that set the Premier League alight for the majority of last season. And N’Jie might not be such a bad replacement for the England man anyway.

It might be an unpopular decision, but I think Kane needs to be shown that he’s not quite in the “undroppable” bracket just yet. However, it might just bring the best out of the most promising young striker in the League.

 

No. This would be daft in my opinion, Kane is unstoppable because there is no alternative good enough. N'Jie needs time; Kane is the better of the two and after his goal vs City he needs a run of games.

 

There is no reason to drop him. He is not playing badly, neither does he look short of confidence. I doubt Pochettino or Kane himself are that concerned about his lack of goals, and he brings a lot more than goals to the team, anyway.

 

Not for this one imo its too big a game but you do make a good point.
Its not so much form as it is Burn Out and Pressure im more concerned about. Kane is over doing it due to the pressure to perform and its hindering the natural scoring ability he has.
But this is the problem that arises from being over reliant on the 1 and only natural striker in the entire squad who is still essentially a prospect.
This shouldve been a top priority in the transfer window but instead the powers that be totally ignored this clear deficiency and dressed it up with 'forwards' (make shift mids).
The problem being Kane is having to over componsate because we have no viable option to replace him for rest or form reasons.

 

Happy someone is brave enough to clearly state the obvious as Kane hasn't been up to scratch so far and hardly gets into the box most of the time to get the goal scoring opportunities. He also has squandered many chances (not less than 6 goals) and the own goal summed his performance. If it was Ade, I am sure many would have had him dropped many games back....Kane has become so selfish and I hope he calms down and does the basics and comes good. I feel he needs competition desperately to bring the best out of him

 

All for giving Kane a rest if we had another centre forward to replace him. Son is injured. Njie is more of a winger. If Kane was dropped and it all went horribly wrong it would affect Njie and Kanes confidence and Poch would get crucified. Got a feeling we will win tomorrow and Kane will get a couple. COYS

 

Haha nonsense. Kane is not getting in the box enough yet us missing many chances. Does that even make sense. Yes he is missing chances so I would suggest burnout isn't an issue. If he wasn't getting chances I would agree he's burnt out. I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting chance. His finishing is a concern but his all round game is still spot on for me and still putting the ball in for England. I'm sure he will find the net soon. Drop him for who lol!!?? However would like to see njie start instead of that dead weight chadli with Son being a big loss!!

 

I suppose it was only a matter of time, eh...

Well, personally, I don't believe ANYONE should be 'undroppable', and EVERYONE should be made aware that they all have to earn a spot in the side (regardless of what team we're talking about).

But in the case of Harry Kane, I think the idea of dropping the kid, at this stage, is borderline ludicrous - simply because he HAS been playing well ALL season.

I mean, for me, Kane has been EXCELLENT in leading the line ( and even the team), again, this term, without, perhaps, taking the opportunities to score that have come his way.

But the beauty about HK is that even when he doesn't score himself, he ALWAYS contributes significantly to the teams functioning/dynamic/ success.

Whether that be instigating the high press, running the channels, holding the ball up/ linking play, winning flick-ons/knock downs, working tirelessly (acting as an example/ prompt for others), moving intelligently around the field or laying on assists, Harry Kane has proved himself a HUGE asset to the team and fits PERFECTLY into Pochettino's system/ style of play.

Does anyone remember the GLORIOUS chance he laid on for Eriksen in the early stages of the game at Old Trafford?

Or what about the free-kick he won through his sheer willingness to chase down a 'lost cause' , which lead to our 2nd goal against City?

Perhaps his quite SUMPTUOUS, hold up/inter play against Leicester which lead to Dele Alli's 1st goal in a Spurs shirt will jog a few memories, eh?



Or, maybe you might consider his role in the Chadli goal vs stoke, where he draws a defender out of position by dropping deep, receiving the ball and playing a reverse pass over the top of his man into the path of Davies who then delivered the cross?



Listen the guy even played a KEY part in the superb goal Ryan Mason scored up at Sunderland the other week!





Hey, look, those are only the 'highlights' I can remember off the top of my head, but my point is Harry IS doing PLENTY of good work upfront for Spurs this season and therefore FULLY merits his place in the team.

And if Pochettinos analyses the games, as I do, he will be well- aware of that, too!


So, I believe, REGARDLESS of the alternatives the manager has at his disposal,at the moment, the LAST thing Mauricio will be thinking about doing is dropping Harry Kane!.... It is, as they say, as simple as that!!!!

Imagine, the kid ONLY scored a couple of games ago and now we're talking about whether he should keep his place in the team...Some of you lot are worse than the press! lol

His lack of goals thus far in a Spurs shirt is ultimately down to the weight of expectation and pressure he is feeling, at the moment.

Dropping him, ESPECIALLY, when he is STILL having a positive affect on the team would only make things worst.

Lets remember how inexperienced the guy actually is at this level. He is STILL very much LEARNING on the job, and at the moment he is taking a class on 'How to manage and thrive upon pressure'.

Listen, the lad does NOT need dropping! The lad needs GUIDANCE, ENCOURAGEMENT and SUPPORT... And fortunately for us, that is EXACTLY what Pochettino will give him.

 

He is absolutely droppable!! and anyone who thinks diffirent wants spurs to fail!!!
his primary job is to score goals, no one player is bigger than the team, let alone the club! yes he has set players up works hard for the team , but not to the detriment of scoring goals and winning games,(See Everton, Leicester,Palace, and Stoke!) even Messi was dropped!!
Finally,in modern day football just cos Njie looks like a winger doesn't mean he cant play as a striker and score goals! Henry initially was a winger, same as Messi and Ronaldo!!

 

If we are asking a hyperthetical is Harry or anyone else for that matter, droppable, then yes he's droppable. Will he or should he be dropped for a massive game against Pool ? feck no. given the recent history of this fixture and that this is a winnable game, why would we drop one of the leagues hardest working and most creative fowards ? in fact why are we even asking the question ?
Clinton looks a good player but lead the line on his own in a game like this ? anyone remember the last few games at home to pool.
Instead of talking shite about dropping our only striker why dont we just put out our best team.

 

The lad is working hard - only thing that he can perhaps be blamed for atm is that he is trying to hard to score. By that I mean that he has been taking shots from angles/distances where he is unlikely to score. Also, I have seen him take some shots, where Eriksen had found a completely free position and should have received a pass (during counter-attacks). On the other hand - you want your striker to take shots at goal, and if the ball had gone in during mentioned situations you wouldnt hear me complain.

No reason to drop him atm.

 

No one is undroppable, but at this moment in time the idea is not worthy of discussion. Did not see match today but even if Harry had a poor game I think his all round play this season merits place in side. The real issue is no one sharing the goal scoring duties with him
