Tottenham are linked to countless players in the transfer market, but the latest batch of rumours have the club mentioned as summer suitors of two top-class players.

The North London club have been linked with moves for Toby Alderweireld and Ezequiel Lavezzi of late - players capable of taking Mauricio Pochettino’s side to the next level.

    Alderweireld

Belgian centre-half Alderweireld is on loan at Southampton from Atletico Madrid this season and has immediately adjusted to Premier League football.

The former Ajax man has been part of the Saints’ defence that has conceded the fewest goals in the English top flight this season and has looked assured throughout.

Quick across the ground with aerial prowess and stature, Alderweireld has all the assets to be a real star at White Hart Lane.

The reports linking us to the Belgian state that a fee of around £10 million would be needed to land the defender, which seems reasonable given his ability.

With Alderweireld not acclimatising in Madrid and Atletico having a settled rearguard encompassing Diego Godin, Miranda and Jose Maria Gimenez, it appears that the Southampton loanee will the available.

Given that Alderweireld has played in the same national team as Jan Vertonghen and the pair were both at Ajax together, this seems like an ideal addition for Tottenham.

    Lavezzi

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been reported to have an interest in Paris Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi, who is constantly being linked with a move away from the current French champions.

The French press have claimed that Spurs have made contact with the Argentine’s representatives ahead of a potential summer bid.

The former Napoli star was disciplined by Laurent Blanc at the turn of the year for returning back to training late after the mid-season break, while with first-team football not a given it looks like Lavezzi could leave the French capital this summer.

On first sight, this looks like a promising opportunity and a player that could well be the competent option that Mauricio Pochettino needs on the right-hand side of his attack.

Spurs fans remain divided in our opinion of Erik Lamela, and being linked with another Argentine will not inspire much confidence.

However, Lavezzi has the positive traits that the current Spurs man lacks; experience, an eye for goal and most important a physicality that would be suited to the English game.

The only drawback is that in some reports, PSG are being linked with Hugo Lloris and could well use the South American forward as part of the deal.

Under no circumstances should or hopefully would Spurs consider selling our custodian, and all bets would be off should Lloris be included in any potential swap deal.

Personally I’d love to see both Alderweireld and Lavezzi at Spurs next season as they have the qualities to offer something different at Tottenham and could be first-team regulars.

Would love to see Alderweireld but Lavezzi is awful. Would be a shocking drain on the wage bill.

Agree about Lavezzi. Reminds me of Lamela in the fact that he is just a show pony with very little substance.

Signings I want to see us make in the summer:

    Benteke
    Schneiderlin
    Delph
    Austin

We know we will have to sell first and if we cannot shift Adebayawn then I think we may find transfer business difficult this summer.
I expect to see the return to the Lane of Pritchard and see him as another player now ready to join Mason, Bentaleb and Kane in the first eleven.

I still believe that without Champions league football next season, we will find new signings hard to come by and our academy may be the place that Poch looks to to take Spurs forward.

I agree except I would rather Berahino than Austin and either Schneiderlin or Delph, not both. I would love to see Pritchard on the left rather than Chadli. We need to sell Soldado, Ade, Kaboul, and Paulinho.

Bring in Alderweireld, he's a class act, and has proven his worth in the PL, but not lavezzi. A left winger is a must, someone who can compete with Chadli, as I reckon that would have the same effect as Davies and Rose, rather than just replacing him outright.

Pritchard looks like he'd be great competition for Eriksen in that number 10 role, and bringing in either Delph or Schneiderlin would disrupt our midfield that's performed so well with Mason and Bentaleb. If we bring back Carroll next season, and keep Stambouli, we can use that pairing as backup. This summer, I don't want to see too much spending, it's just not needed, with the talent we have coming through and a manager willing to give them a go.

Only players we need are Alderweireld and Berahino. Whilst clearing out the dead wood of Soldado, Adebayor, Kaboul, Dembele, Capoue and Paulinho. Though if Depay were to become a real viable target, I certainly wouldn't say no to him as a 3rd signing

Please can we not go for benteke? I don't rate him at all, he should be scoring 25 goals a season yet he isn't.
