Palace point good enough for Pochettino as fans furious

You only have to look to our match-ratings to see today wasn’t a good day at the office. Apart from a deserved 8 for Hugo Lloris, the rest of the squad were riddled with ratings in the 4’s, 5’s and 6’s.

It may come as a surprise then, that our Head Coach is happy with a point, against a team tipped to be battling relegation, whilst we were playing at home!

Poch pleased

In his post-match interviews, Pochettino bemoaned our busy fixture schedule, but also said that the result was one of positives for ourselves.

Our Head Coach said of the match: “It wasn’t an easy game. Crystal Palace played well on the day. We’re not very fresh, it’s our third game in six days. I’m happy with the effort and the result.

“The result 0-0 is fair. We created some chances but Palace were very tight, very organised, it was tough but we’re happy with point."

Does Poch have a point being happy with a point?

To take the game literally as; Crystal Palace, home match, Saturday three o’clock kick-off then you will be without a doubt disappointed with a 0-0 draw. But maybe, like Poch, there are reasons to think positively about the outcome.

In other PL fixtures, there were two other bore-draws – one of which was Liverpool’s home encounter with Sunderland. And elsewhere, City, Stoke and Newcastle only won by the one goal.

With this in mind, maybe fatigue plays a bigger part in players performances than we think, as there were lots of tired legs on show today in the PL. No more so than in the Tottenham ranks, and considering our coach’s tactics are primarily based on energetic pressing, it’s no surprise that our performance suffered badly.

Point a sign of progression?

Just because we are unhappy with the performance, doesn’t mean that we have to be unhappy about the result.

Many of us will admit that maybe Palace were deserved of all three points, so for us to take one, despite how badly we played, is a positive in itself. It’s fair to say that plenty of similar Tottenham performances, such as ones in the past, would have resulted in losses in games such as today.

However, being happy with a point at home to Palace would demonstrate how lowly we rate our current stature and is a true reflection of our predicament.

The end result today sparked feelings of irritation, rather than ones of disaster and meltdown, but when you’re a Spurs fan, it’s fair to say that there’s very little different between the two.

 

A boring, inept display lacking pace, passion or width. The only thing "Botch" has in his favour is he is a lucky manager. Palace deserved to win, our displays at Villa and Hull were also poor not deserving of three points. He has blamed the mentality of the players, the size of the pitch and now they are tired. What he needs to look at is his own negative tactics and inverted "wingers". This Tottenham team have no style. He is AVB mark two but not as good. Tim Sherwood against teams outside the top four won eight of his nine league games at the Lane and drew the other scoring goals in the process. If both he and AVB were sacked this joker must be on borrowed time. His substitutions were dreadful, the game cried out for some width but Lennon was brought on at the death. Even then he took Soldado off who had looked more likely to score than any other Tottenham player. The home displays have often left the visiting keeper virtually redundant. Again LLoris saved us a point we did not deserve. The reception at the end said everything and yet "Botch" is happy.

 

Completely agree. The 'team' has no shape or structure. Clearly the players have no belief in what the manager is trying to do. It's already been said, but the number of half time substitutions we make, strongly suggests that the manager doesn't know his best 11. The last time Spurs looked this lost Ramos was in charge. Few of us want to see yet another managerial change, but empty seats at WHL will soon be appearing, and Levy will have to wield the axe once more. Who on earth will want the job? Pochettino is lucky. Lucky that Levy just can't produce another p45 in the space of 12 months.

 

Im a season ticket Holder, I'm sad to say it will be my last the board an levy have ruined my Spurs, it's always a merry go round, got rid of our best manager in 20 years Redknapp for finishing 4th, he had the best squad we've seen in years only to be dismantled to make Real Madrid win the Champions league. We then spent te money on terrible footballers that we're no better than what we had bar Eriksson, Baldini must be on the take with his links with Roma as Eric lamela is an absolute joke, I'm happy that some young players have come through but blooding so many at once your asking for trouble then they'll be dumped on the scrap heap or sold to lower level teams, I don't no where we're heading buts is definatley not the top 4.

 

Strongly believe that three games in a week is unacceptable - but so is playing the same team for all three games. Poch refuses to change his players around with the exception of Soldado against Chelsea - a game which really he had to start! I want to support him, but his decisions are causing me to lose faith. However I do believe he shouldn't be axed for at least the end of next season, he needs time and his own singings.

 

If we had lost, I dread to think what we would be saying, but the performances this season, Everton and QPR aside have been utterly awful. Lacking in passion and I just do not know what this manager is doing at times.
I still believe he needs time, but his tactical decisions are, at times, baffling.

 

After a couple of encouraging team displays Poch just couldn't help himself and again reverted to the inverted. Surprise, surprise, no width, no pace, easy to defend against. The only positive from this one is that we didn't get slaughtered Palace very unlucky here. Many will simply blame the players and maybe there was a case for fatigue especially when you look at other results but we were wrong from the beginning, Dier and Lamela on the right ? no wonder Warnock fancied Bolasie down that side. Some of our defending was decent but it was Hugo again that saved the day. Maybe there were some tired legs out there but playing so narrow didn't allow Mason or Bentaleb to move the ball around, Bentaleb back to passing backwards and sideways. When we did get forward it was all tippy tappy thru the middle, weak and ineffective, the Palace defenders hardly had to move all game. So why do we always go back to the inverted style that never works ? We could blame the players all day and much of it would be fair but weve seen the team respond to positive tactics and then not respond to the old AVB blueprint that Poch seems to favour. They don't buy into it and they don't respond to it. I don't think that Lennon is the best player or even close to it but we need a player like him ( Yedlin maybe ? ) to add some width. Poch's refusal to see this today was for me another bad sign and then bringing on Paulinho really topped it off. If im being cynical id say that the chairman has told the head coach to give him a few runs before the next window to shop him around. Bring back Holtby.

 

I feel the team selection should revert back to how it was before Botchatino got his stick little fingers on it. Despite Benoit's stupid tweets he is right and should never of been shut out in the cold in the first place,because he is better than what we have at the back at this very moment anyway. If he could put soldado in the team and give him some consistency he might start hitting form. Alot of empty seats around the stadium today and I can only see it getting worse.

 

What do people expect??

Poch is a dead man walking, if you dnt have the components to make a good team it doesnt matter how good a coach you are you will not make it succeed.

But Poch is not the Problem, the silent dictator is the problem- Ming the Penniless.

In the last 6 years (0 net spend) but £291 Million spent/wasted from faffin about with the squad mainly shipping out all the genuine talent, stock piling bench standard nobodies and basically leaving us with an Academy/Reserve standard 1st team.

The team lacks everything, its the worst football ive ever witnessed at Spurs, as a boy i was enthralled by Gazza and Linekar, I grew up watching Klinsman, Teddy, Ginola, became an adult Watchin King, Carrick, Berba, Keane, Jd and then onto highs of VdV, Modric and Bale. This lot who currently prop up our 1st team squad arent fit to lace these players boots in fact id say they rnt fit to lace the lesser players who played during this time.

We are totally void of any top class talent. Daniel Levy & Enic should be tried for Crimes against Spurs.

As i have stated before if this is to be a Transitional season then by the time next season starts we should have ruthlessly got rid of all these failures and built a squad specifically for Poch to execute his 'phylosophy' else this is not a transitional its a total waste of everyones time- Like Enic & Ming in general.

The guy who calls others Fickle but only comes out singing when we have 1 half decent game in 6? Can you see the Irony there?

Poch is looking more out of his depth as time goes on he will not last unless truly backed with sufficient funds and the players he actually wants

 

In fact- Wheres the trophies? Wheres the Star Players? Wheres the new Stadium? Wheres the progress? Wheres the Money?

 

Poch does his job well. He gets most out of his players. They could not do much better.

 

I'm very happy with a point, and I'm delighted for the manager and team. Every point counts in the fight against relegation, even more so against fellow relegation strugglers

 

I have never seen such a bunch of misfits.
It would be more exciting to watch paint dry!?
I will not bother to watch any more games as just losers!

 

Apart from Erikson and Possibly Chadli the proceeds from the Bale sale were wasted!
What will happen when we continue our obligations to Real Madrid and sell them Lloris, because Pochatino will be in no position to stand up to Levy like Sherwood tried to do!
We've become a joke, we can't keep sacking our managers before they've been given a chance to build their own team or in the end no decent manager will take the job and any second rate manager won't gain the respect of the team he inherits!
I wonder if Pochatino actually cares, he rarely gets out off his seat to show the players where they're going wrong or does he not know how to fix the problems on the field?
Personally I thought that what Tim Sherwood lacked in experiance he more than made up with passion and a winning mentality that players would respect!

*Waiting for Poch's signings is not going to happen unless they are cheap, 2nd choice alternates or financed by player sales. So apart from Lloris and the academy players all the other players if sold will be sold at a significant loss and I imagine would be replaced with the equivalent net value meaning an even more limited player. Remember these 7 players at £100m were supposed to enhance our top 4 challenge. Selling for the value today which is probably at least a 3rd off that will bring us down to upper middle top 10 spending and equivalent talents.

*"I'm only the coach" Pochettino for me basically an admittance of realizing he's in Levy's catch 22 and ****ed. Will his transfers be dictated by purchase of players to compliment Erickssen or Lamela. For me they don't fit in the same team but its clear the team has to be built around one of them. If its Levy's decision it will be players bought to compliment Lamela due to the large investment. In an ideal world Poch would be given time to mold both talents but with the rest of the team a complete car crash he has big problems. This I think makes him focus too much on team formation and shape and not whether individuals fit or are comfortable within the instructed tactics of the team.

If I hear about tired players and teams in transition once more, I'll puke. These fellows are built to play football; nothing else. Tell me the Man. U. squad was tired, week in, week out, Champions League, FA Cup, League, you name it. They were so pumped up, they could have played 8 games a week! This rabble of ours can't even get pumped up to kick Palace's ass. Palace isn't a "team in transition", is it? They're a team who should be clinging on by their finger tips. Notwithstanding the rubbish we see, every weekend, every midweek, I was still expecting four or five against Palace. Forget Palace. Thrash Hull, Villa, West Brom, Stoke, Newcastle, I'm not fussy. How many more of my diminishing years must I be subjected to this junk? Happy with 0-0 against Palace?
Give us an Englishman in the dugout; give us a leader or two on the pitch.
DON'T PLAY LAMELA; NOT AS A STARTER, NOT AS A SUB. My grandmother could do better and she's been dead for 15 years. Just Lay her out in her box on the right wing. You probably think I'm joking, but I'm not. She would do better because no one would think to pass to her because she is so OBVIOUSLY dead. They don't realise Lamela's dead until its too late and they've given him the ball. And then, of course, he dies every time they give it to him. Why? Because he runs straight into a brick wall. Every time.
I'll manage Tottenham. Then you'll see passion. Even if we don't win every week, a team under my influence would die trying - FOR US.

AND another thing, while I'm at it. If you wre a player, who would inspire you to give it you all, POCHETTINO or WARNOCK? I don't know much about Warnock, but he looks like someone who can inspire even the lowliest collection of unknowns to over-achieve. That other one, POCHETTINO, he inspires me to sleep. And that's only because I'm already tired!

Agree partly with jimmyforenglands comments above, but if we sack this guy we will become a complete embarrassment. I agree this boring unattractive pile of dross is terrible to watch at present. We need to see how Levy supports him in the january transfer window? If he doesn't then we know hes for the sack with another massive compensation package. I never wanted poch, and think we would have done better with the more experienced de boer. Unforfunately, poch is the manager and needs to build his own team and then judge him next year. When you look at our goal difference year after year you can see where the problems lie-we just dont create enough in the game to allow this once prolific Soldado any chance or confidence. Eriksen is the shining light from this debacle, hes still young and has some potential. Any team should be built round lloris, eriksen, vertonghen and soldado. We need 2 class wingers and another class striker like martinez??
Im afraid until we can pick up the pace and create chances for the strikers we will have no chance. COYS.

 

One or two defo got a little carried away after the Everton game. I think for me poch is out of his depth at present. He's gone from over rotating to playing pretty much the same side for three consecutive games but leaving lennon out who looked sharp n fresh. Personally I think he needs the benefit of the doubt as there is no one out there at present and we need some continuity. He needs a transfer window and needs to be backed more importantly with the players he wants!! Remember harry didn't get the world class forward he wanted when we were in title race. Avb didn't get moutinho and hulk to
seal top four and poch didn't get Schneiderlain and mussachio. The club needs a mass exodus and overhaul with naughton bae chiriches kaboul paulinho adebayor
Lamela stambouli and unfortunately dembele moving on and the squad reshaping so poch may as well be the one to do it!!

 

Sacking the manager will not achieve anything. I am not exactly impressed with the new man so far, but he has to be given time. We will not get relegated and nor will we reach the top four, or top six.
The football at the moment is appalling and the manager makes some very strange decisions.
But saving hm would serve no purpose.

Our chairman needs to take a long look at Newcastle and wet spam. Both managers have been Wanted out by fans but the chairman have stayed strong and are getting the benefits right now.
