When the international break comes around, it is usually nice to a break from the speculation around your club and with the transfer window open, we at least know what our squad is and are either happy or frustrated.

Today though has seen Louis Van Gaal make comments about how difficult his job at Manchester United.

    Easy, easy

According to quotes attributed to Van Gaal, he has said, “if I wanted an easy life, I would have gone to Tottenham Hotspur.”

Well, I wonder if he really believes that or is just trying to deflect some of the mounting pressure away from himself?

    Pressure

Managing Manchester United is a big job for sure, but easier than managing Tottenham? Well, that is one heck of a shout Mr Van Gaal!

You joined a club that had its worst season for years, decades even, last year, but still a club with a stadium with a capacity over 70 thousand, millions to spend and a history of massive success under Ferguson. Yes, the expectancy for United to be top of the league and winning things is immense, but all of the other things behind you, I really don't see how it can be as hard as he seems to say it is.

Let's now think about how easy it is manager Spurs shall we?
    • a club with one of the smallest capacity stadia in the Premier league and over sixty thousand people on the waiting list for season tickets.
    • a club with a very strict wage structure
    • a club with an illustrious history that is becoming ever more distant
    • a turnover of managers that would make your head spin
Now, forgive me for my bias, but even as a Spurs fan, I think the prospect of managing Manchester United would be far more relaxing.

The pressure on several managers in the least eleven years to get into the top four let alone win trophies has been too much for too many and does Van Gaal think he could have changed the fortunes of our great club?

    Rebuilding expectations

At Spurs, we have expectations of. Champions league football and silverware, but it has been so long since we had it on a regular basis, that the next person to achieve it is going to be considered a great success. If Van Gaal succeeds at United, he will be seen as merely sorting out a brief blip and continuing their dynasty.

Our recent glory days are over sixty years ago and working with our budget, our stadium and indeed our chairman would test many managers and indeed it has proved to be so.

    Spice

Maybe Van Gaal is just wanting to add spice to of footballs great fixtures, but if he thinks he would have had easy at Tottenham, he is very much mistaken and I look forward to the reception he receives at the Lane this season. Then we will see who has the easier task.

As ever, come on you spurs!!!

He has just given us the motivation to Spurs squad to beat them when we play them, what a tool!

I was bit disappointed we did not get van Gaal. As the season progressed, I am getting more glad that we did not get him. While I understand his character, he needs to be respectful of others. And as someone else, if he (or anyone else) wanted a real challenge, winning the title with Spurs would be the ultimate one!

LVG's comments are nothing but disrespectful to Spurs and Pochettino.

It must be hard deciding how to blow £200m. So hard that he doesn't realise most spurs fans would take Pochettino any day over and autocratic megalomaniac (even if he is 'intelligent')

Well said. I always felt that he took the easy option joining United. If a manager wins the league with Spurs he would be considered a great.
United are supposed to be challenging the squad he inherited won the league a couple of seasons back, the squad Poch took over hasn't won a thing. We could only dream about getting in a striker like Falcoa and Di Maria

Utter nonsense from a knob with his back against the wall. Seeing his tactical dispositions with 3 central defenders at a club that can barely muster 2 qualified players on that position AND Young + Valencia as wing backs, well, I'm soooo relieved he choose the easy way out.

Have fun at the newly renamed Theater of Nightmares.

I was delighted Spurs didn't appoint LVG because he appears to be insufferably arrogant and nothing he's said or done in his first month diminishes that.

He's currently below Moyes in the Man Utd pantheon. That doesn't make him a No.1 manager. That makes him a No.19 one.

Remember being in the Bricklayers Arms pre match in Febuary. Two of the Spurs fans there that day were decked out in 'Van Gaal' home shirts. Caused some laughter but also discussion. A few Ajax/Spurs fans there said 'please NO'. He would see himself bigger than our club especially if Holland had a good WC. His arrogance and culture of blame would see turbulence at WHL. Now these fellas as are we all are passionate. BUT they would not come to see Spurs under him. His buying of Di Maria and Falcoa etc are to feed his ego. They have an awful defence, terrible. Blind good player. The rest, yes including Shaw and Rojo are knee jerk buys. Happy with Mo Po and so no doubt are a few Ajax fans. Van Gaal can have Narcissist FC, they deserve each other

Did I fall into a coma between May & August ? I have heard Van Gaal saying that he came so close to taking the job at Tottenham. Now I know that he was one of the names linked to the post - but did Mr. Levy at any time actually offer him the job ? I don't think that I heard or read anywhere that he did.

I agree that Van Gaals comments are disrespectful to Pochittino, the club & all us Spurs fans - but what else can you expect from an arrogant egotistical Dutchman, who in all four if the games that United have played (including the one that gave me the biggest laugh of the season so far - against MK Dons), he has disrespected every opposition manager by not going to shake their immediately after the game - but by signing autographs for 'his fans' first.
Glad we got Poch and not that prune faced idiot - two words describe Mr Van Gaal in my opinion 'COMPLETE ****' !

"If I had wanted an easy life I would have gone to Tottenham" c'mon thats brilliant, "hey Danny, I need at least 150 big ones before the window closes, any problems? Completely uneccessary comments by LVG who is obviously already feeling under pressure, welcome to the Premier league. Its early days and LVG is known for his slow starts but so far Manu have been absolute rubbish under LVG, to me he has looked very uncomfortable in this role and very unconvinsing and so has the team. LVG, you can have him. He's also a shockingly, very unattractive individual.
