I take it you mean Liverpool who have the best 2 crossers from full back and 2 much better fast attackers because they score goals .Without son we don’t Score goals from our fast attackers. We can’t match Van dyke and their midfield can pass the ball forward unlike ours. Finally their keeper does not play them into trouble every game as does ours with his distribution.Apart from that it should work

I am not quite sure if I understand what you and Felon want to say. At times I get the impression that the two of you don't think there are 11 players in the current Spurs squad who are worthy of wearing the Spurs shirt and therefore Spurs should concede every single match this season without playing a single match.
That is probably not what the two of you want to say.

The squad is what it is. I am not sure if the squad has been used well. Very few matches still but there has been some line-ups and team-selections that I have found strange.

Maybe it is time to go back to what was before, people suggest their starting 11 before the match starts.

So for me, then I'd say to go with a 433 formation. Other people might have other ideas, lets hear them.

Correct Jesper I don’t think there are 11 players in the squad worthy of wearing the shirt but we do have 4 or 5 who can get us points against the bottom half sides.Yet to see much of Romero And Gil who hopefully will improve us.How many teams would take Winks. Doherty Dier Davies as first choice players.Look at the shambles away in Europe when we played our back up players.I am probably spoilt because I have supported us for 60 years and remember having teams with at least 6 class players in when we played the spurs way.

    Bingo

Our squad is full of averageness and overhyped sh;t.
If it wasn't we'd play better football and wouldn't make so many mistakes.
There's an immaturity, unprofessional, lazy attitude deep rooted in the club n that will not change until the personnel does.

Is there anybody on this site who thinks we do have 11 players worthy of the shirt if so come on and state your reasons because I don’t believe Felon and I are the only ones with our opinion of the squad. This once lively site has almost dried up with opinions which is a shame as this is the best run one.I guest on another unnamed site and it has so many opinions every day although it is a free for all in language and insults.

Yep, this is a good site and yes the opinions have dried up.

The arguments here remind me a little of this old Monty Python bit:

Contradictions without any countering argument other than that the other side is wrong.
    -Yes it is
    -No it isn't

Not much fun to be offering an opinion, hearing that it is wrong and then no counter-argument other than you are wrong. No exchange of thoughts or ideas. As far as I can tell it is a great way of shutting down any discussion.

& for the record I have repeatedly stated that I consider the top4 squads to be: Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd so we are in agreement that Liverpool has a better squad than Spurs.

My opinion is that the 433 is the best fit for the current squad. If it is not the best fit for the current squad then there is at least one formation better suited to the current squad. Which one is better?

Whether we have 11 or not would it make difference to your opinion or do just want someone to disagreed with you so you can ridicule their opinion I find forums go quite when they are full of pointless baiting but maybe thats just my opinion

Who were you referring to unhappy clapper as you don’t say so who can reply. If it was me. Then of course it would make a difference if we had 11 worthy of the shirt because we would not be having this conversation as we would be competing unless the manager was useless and then it would be a different conversation. At the moment any manager would struggle with these players .

I think the question is not what system to play but what mentality do you approach the game. You can't staff the midfield with 3 CDM and try to prevent the opponent player and hope to win ugly. Or you can staff if with players like Iniesta and Xavi and win because you have a brand of football you want to play.

We did that against Crystal Palace. What kind of message is being sent to the players. Not having a quality creative player is bad enough but staffing with 3 CDMs definitely doesn't solve the situation. And Deli Ali even when he was at his best is not a playmaker. Pinning our hopes on Ndombele or Lo Celso? We don't have a playmaker or a ball carrier in the centre of the park and it has been obvious since Dembele and Eriksen left.

This squad lacks creativity which is further compounded by Nuno's negative approach.

I agree with most. Creativity was lacking, the player that might have brought it and were available for selection were Ndombele and Gil.
Ndombele is for some reason not being selected, if he was selected then maybe Spurs would have creativity in the midfield.
Gil is more of a winger.

If neither Lo Celso nor Ndombele plays then I'd like to use the winger Gil as a winger and the three CMs who are hard-working as hard-working CMs.
That is why I see /saw the 433 formation with Gil as one of the players on the field as one of the best if not the best formation for Spurs using the available players.
For me the mentality and the formation are very closely linked. (433 is to me high press mentality, 4231 is to me low block and counter-attack mentality etc etc)

Nuno had for me a strange approach, I couldn't and still can't figure out how he expected those players to win. Set-piece maybe?
Gil and/or Ndombele should in my opinion have played. Maybe the result would be worse, maybe the same or maybe it would have been better. I believe that chances are that Spurs might not have looked so poor as they did.

The thing for me is that I'd rather discuss how to best use the available players than whatever the alternative to doing that is.

Formation to us means nothing.....it simply doesn't matter. Whatever the formation our squad is soo lacking there will always be gaps.
... for me we don't have a decent CB pairing.....and that is shocking.

    Kane & Son.....possibly Hojbjerg.... that's it.
No top4 team would take any of our other players

I am not sure how to interpret that.
Are you saying that we should stop discussing team-selections and team-formations due to the squad being so poor? If so, what is left to discuss?

  13. Guesty Guest

    can we name definite starters.....

    I'd say......

Gk.... Lloris (as the back up I'm not at all sure about)
Def....??? (certainly not Sanchez or Dier)......maybe Tanganga & Rodon..... Reggie I've gone off (he's gone very european in his play... always looking for fouls and moaning about it) .....Davies worries me (but may be okay with Rodon)...... Romeo & Royal I haven't decided on yet......but are any of the defence really quality!?!?
Mid....Hojbjerg & Skipp....the rest I would happily replace (Dele & NDumb top that list)
For..... Kane & Son.....Gil needs to play more (and we need to find where he sits in the 'formation' ..... the rest I would happily replace

..... so......Lloris with a 2-2 in front of him at the moment

We are talking about formation etc when surely Nuno must be doing what Mourino never did and decide on his best team and stick with it.Romero was voted best defender in serie a last year so must be the base of our defence.I personally like Rodon although that is not shared by everyone. We seem to have changes galore every week.I hope he gives a strong side the chance on Thursday and not save them all for Chelsea which is probably a spanking either way.Ndombele or Decelso must play to give us a little go forward. One thing I won’t accept from Nuno is the continuing inclusion of Winks and I don’t care who he plays instead because they can’t be worse?I don’t know if we have anybody who could be moved to a different position as per Bale was by Harry.

There's too many holes and imbalances to stick to 1 11, there's also far too many games.
That's what squads are for and proper professional clubs have squads not stockpiles of average players just hanging around/pretending to be reinventing/waiting to have their inner player coaxed out/or their potential realised some time in the future with no actual timescale .

After 2-3 very average last seasons, after a poor management of the new manager, after an average management of transfers again this summer, after a complicated management of the Harry Kane case, after a flurry of bad news during the international break, how all the fans Spurs cannot have the feeling that the management of our beloved club is astonishingly amateurish. If Joe Lewis is a fan like we are then he must also see that Levy and his staff do not have the skills befitting this club and his abilities. It's easy to shoot an ambulance, but at some point you have to face your mistakes. Especially when they have been dating for a long time!

Apart from that, I think that if we are spared from injuries, we have a very decent base 11 that can approach the top 4. For that, we also need luck (no or few injuries) and that Kane regains his level ... The problem is that our bench cannot be compared to Chelscum, United or City. And that is the result of the mismanagement of this summer ...

Be interesting to see what team is picked tonight. If Nuno goes with same strength as last time out in this competition then we will get thrashed. What with the injuries and the absconders it is difficult with Chelsea in mind but for confidence we can’t afford another fiasco .It would be nice if Nuno did not speak in riddles all the time .We go from an outspoken egotist to a man who mumbles in his beard and does not fill me with confidence that he is in charge especially as he has picked Winks every game .I want to see some positive action and attacking intent not trying to escape with a point

Dunno what else there is to contribute, I said all last season the players/squad ain't good enough and this season it's even worse.

I was called a Mourinho fan and accused of defending him but I'm not gonna sit here n give a told u so.

    It is what it is.

Minimal investment, bang average players, paper thin squad.

    Mid table club
