    Regarding Bale:

    - How much do we think his fee will be?

    - How much do we think his wages will be?

    - Do we think the "team" would be improved by an amount equivalent to the answer to the first two questions?

We know his capabilities. World class. Pace. Strength. Good in the air. An athlete. If you asked me a question in isolation would I want him, that's an easy answer.

There is a but however. Fee, Salary, Team effect, possible injury issues. Why hasn't Zidane used him more? Why didn't he start after his best spell for yonks.

We all remember his last season with us. Stellar. I just don't happen to think he's right for us at this time, in the round.

The whole point of not spending for over a decade, selling our best players, selling to buy, ticket price increases, low wages, bigger sponsorship deals etc was to build a Stadium so as we can compete with the top sides.
To compete with the Top sides you Need to buy top players, top players cost money and are paid accordingly.
And they mainly go to Top Sides because of this and are more likely to win Trophies.
In the football world Bale is probably just shy of Messi & Ronaldo in quality and without our links to him we would never have a chance to sign a player of this Caliber, but because we do have that History Levy and Poch should move heaven and earth to get him imo.
If it means paying some of our best consistent performers more money than so be it, they've earned it.
A player of Bales stature being the highest earner returning with a bag load of CL medals can hardly be scorned at by players that have won zilch between them.
Bale isn't a Diva like Ronaldo he'd be able to give valuable experience to younger players besides being a worldy match winner he'd fit in well with the team and I'm sure would be a massive boost in confidence to the side.
Pochettinos well oiled machine great when it's working but it can also be very predictable and flat at times , Bales ability is the maverick element it lacks, the ability to create magic from nothing.

Merchandise and extra sponsorship alone would go alot into his cost.

New Stadium , CL football, marquee Signing the home coming would be MASSIVE! Would symbolise a new dawn at the club, everyone's been smothered for too long by the penny pinching it's time to kick on and deliver, the players being linked with may have potential but they're not gonna suddenly elevate us to the level sane fans aspire to , Bale is worth 5 run of the mill hit/miss players.

Well Bazza that's difficult to say but I would guess around 60m given his age and they are desperate to sell. When you consider sissoko lamela llorente and jansen cost around 85m and however much in wages between them can you grumble at that price. He would offer more than the lot put together just as he did with the 7 players we replaced him with. 200 grand a week would be our maximum I would think and that's if he wants to come to us and take a pay cut.

So Bale has decided he's not coming to the Lane and as he's on a reported £400k weekly nett salary I'm not surprised, nor disappointed - it was never a runner and as I stated on here somewhere, I'd rather see what it would have cost spread around the team rather than on one man, no matter what his pedigree. If he does return to England, there's probably only one place he'll go. But with Mourinho running (or should that be ruining ?) the show, God knows what sort of Bale we'll see. Mind you, the nasty side of me says that Mourinho is doing a great job at OT - spending shedloads and winning nothing (of note) for those sense-of-entitlement Mancs. Keep it up, you odious little man.

Well all I can say is if we're not in the market for significant upgrades to contribute/improve the 1st team then we ain't doing nothing of any note next season again

Significant upgrades - certainly Felon, why not ? My point is, with a Bale-sized upgrade, there'd be virtually nothing, if anything at all, left to upgrade a side/squad that is short of all-round quality. Personal views on Bale aside, the team needs more than just one high-flyer.

The Team is missing that bit of Magic , it's not gonna be found spending 50mil on 18yr old CBS, or a left wing back from the Championship for the club to be in the market for these players is selling us a dud.
We need to flog Sissoko Lamela Llorente N'Kodou Jannssen Rose and if we must Toby there's got to be 150-175 mil right there and that's barely touching our 1st team.
With a bit of investment aswell 200mil cud b available.
But with the money id rather see quality over quantity, product over potential it's the only way we will improve the level thats hit it's glass ceiling.

So say the £175m is achieved, what would we spend it on. We're looking for £75m for Toby, or rather Levy is, so Bale would cost more.
He's on £400k after tax. Say he took a cut to "only" £200k after tax, that's £440k pre, over £22m per season. That just doesn't make sense to me, but more importantly it doesn't make sense to DL, I suspect.

If we can get Bale at a reasonable price; say 60mil and he's willing to take a pay cut, 200k...that should be a deal DL ought to make. Anything over that, isn't really possible. On top of bring in quality, we ought to reward some of the players who have out performed their contracts! There other players of quality we can go after, City is going after Riyad alone....he's a very talented player and we ought to be looking at him and Zaha.

We lack game changers, players who can make something happen on their own. In terms of the regular squad players; Lamela, Sissoko, Rose..I don't really see a reason to get rid of them. They are decent when it comes to cup games and sometimes filling in for the first team.
