Late winner as Spurs ride their luck

This was by no means a great performance. The result is superb. They always say that the top teams win when they don't play well and that was the case today. Watford are on a high at present and they gave a Spurs a tough ride today.
Poch changed his formation for only the second time this season and was perhaps his efforts at providing a plan B.
Watford had some early efforts before Spurs took the lead through a neatly taken Lamela goal on 17 minutes. Toby and Verts had one of their toughest games this season as the power and strength of Deeney and Ighalo kept them busy.
Dier also made some important challenges to keep Spurs in the lead.

Spurs were lacklustre at times today and sometimes the passing was well off target. Watford kept pressing and Ighalo turned Vertonghen and rolled Toby before firing the equaliser past Lloris.
Ighalo is some player and would be a great foil for Kane. I doubt Watford will sell in January, but he is someone we should look at in the summer for sure.

The game seemed to be heading for stalemate when the game turned on 2 incidents. Akey went for a ball and instead of getting the ball, he connected instead with the head of Erik Lamela. I thought it was a poor challenge but I was surprised to see the red card come out. But come out it did and Watford were down to 10 men. But Poch did not change his tactics and Watford started going for the win whilst Spurs floundered to take advantage of the one man advantage.
Watford then had a corner which to the naked eye looked to have crossed the line and given the 10 men the three points. The whistle was blown and I had my head in my hands, only to gleefully realise that a goal had not been given.
The goal line technology showed that only a hair of the ball was still on the line before Lloris got to the ball and the decision for no goal was correct.

Spurs then went up the other end and Tripper played a ball into the box where Son was able to get the ball home and the 3 points went to the Spurs.

That's 6 points from 2 games which I would have taken before the festive period began. We now move up to third and fight on.
I've said often recently that there is no better chance to get the top 4 than this season. In reality, there could be no better chance to have a tilt at the title.

Onward we march!

As predicted a game of cards happy the red went to the hornets,way to early to talk of a title push I will be happy to stay in 3rd at least until easter,Spurs march on to glory!!!!!

 

A huge win - given the manner, i.e. average performance and a late winner. Great for the mentality and 3 wins on the bounce in PL.

3 points against Everton would be great and an opportunity to lay down a real marker, while others around us continue to drop points...

The most important aspect Poch has given the team is the fight,last season we would have given up at 1-1 and settled for the draw,today we showed all the PL, Spurs are no longer a push over we mean business COYS...

Would love to smash Everton on the 2nd Jan. Take all 9 points and I will certainly believe! And I might, just might even get over the Toon defeat lol.

Lets hope Levy digs deep in the window and doesn't leave us exposed... We can all see what's needed. A couple of quality signings and cover for Kane.

 

The problem is I can not see a quality signing playing second fiddle to Kane he would want game time as striker not the bench,unless Poch changes the system to include 2 main strikers plus Son leaving Eriksen on the bench,and then we have Carroll who will also want game time,Levy will back Poch but I'm not sure who would want to come.....

 

Great result, lets not forget it was away against a dogged team playing well.
Was refreshing to see us getting width in our play instead of constantly congesting the centre.
Really beggining to believe in this side, the spine is solid and so refreshing to see after the past 3 years a total transformation in spirit and attitude.
I for one am a very happy Spurs fan at the moment and long may it continue.

yes what a win! Not the best performance mind but a great 3 points and Palace also dropped points. Also we are up to 3rd!Poch changed formation to suit Watfords play and expose their weaknesses, and this 3412 formation could become a nice plan B.Lamela was good again and was good to see Son get a cheeky winner. Let's start 2016 with a nice three points at Everton who are struggling but are a good side. Lukaku will be another tough test for the Belgians

What a win, keep most on the edge of their seats. Enjoying seeing Lamela playing confidently and hard across the pitch with purpose. With him starting to contribute with goals, Kane, Son, Eriksen, Alli....hopefully Chadli will also get going soon. We're looking good for that top 4 spot, hell even challenge up top (why not!!).

Ighalo is a player we need to keep an eye on, his style of play is outstanding to watch. Very strong on the ball, plays well partnered up...January window probably won't happen but in the summer we ought to go for him, forget Berahino!! This guy produces goals!!

The news about Dembele has taken the shine off the win today,1-2weeks out,we are linked to so many player's,Ighalo is another striker whose club would never let go,right now what a end to the year 3rd!!!!!COYS...

One with a manager who has a style and philosophy and has implemented it

Six points I hoped for are now reality!!

MP initial 1-5-2-3 formation was short in life, but showed that manager knows some things about tactic.

I am surprised that no one commented on finish quality that Son has shown. To me his goal was a second top finish this season (1st being - sorry Harry- Carroll's against Monaco). It was an absolute fantastic trick, plus a game winner!

I thought Trippier had a great game, and his crossing was far superior to anything our other wingbacks have shown recently.
Rose however, continues to dumbfound me - what goes on in his brain, if he has one? Up against 10 men with time running out, he dwells on the ball for ages whilst deciding whether to pass to JV or Toby, he shields the ball out for a corner to the opposition, he argues with the ref and gives away stupid little free kicks in set-piece territory. He really made it 10 against 10 for the last 30 minutes.
We played badly creating very little, but having said that, if 'winning ugly' is the sign of champions, the 55-year wait could soon be over.

 

Every one is raving about the team and rightly so,now we speak of title contenders,two weeks ago after the Toon loss it was doom and gloom and Kane was our only goal scorer,Now our heads are held high and are proud of our very young team which can only improve,can we return to the glory day's of the sixties,YES WE CAN..COYS

 

I was impressed by Trippier myself, for a while there I thought he might have been a mistake. It's great to see him being aggressive going forward and defending likewise, it was a pleasure to see that when he played for Burnley. Still, there's a lot more that he can show...nevertheless he's still relatively new to squad and still settling in, hoping that performance continues when he plays.

Except for our striker options, we are a really solid young team with lots of hunger in the squad. Rose better step it up, Davies is more than sufficient. Although, the wingback position doesn't really fit Rose's style...think Davies would have fared better. The future is BRIGHT!!
