Realistic targets: Spurs fans, who do you want to sign?

I'd like to say Delph but we don't even seem on the radar for him. Schneiderlin is no way happening especially if (as expected) we've got Alderweireld so we can completely forget about him now. I'd take McCarthy for sure.

I'd definitely like a left winger to come in as backup or rival to Chadli (even though Eriksen and Pritchard do like it as a second position). Ferreira Carrasco sounds like the man but he won't come cheap and we might not get first dibs anyway.

Up front we first need to shift either Adebayor or Soldado, preferably Ade as he's on a higher wage and is a completely unreliable character. If that happens I'd like either Chicharito or Llorente, and wouldn't be disappointed with Berahino either.

I wouldn't mind seeing Shaqiri in place of Townsend but that's not top of our priorities. A top quality CM and good backups for Chadli and Kane and I'll be happy

Berahino from WBA is certainly very realistic and personally I think the perfect option to partner and grow with Kane.
Two good, young, English strikers who are both eager to impress and improve.

There is still some deadwood to ship out. Adey, Saldano, possibly Townsend, Stambouli, Chichires, Kaboul & Lennon, so another £50M can come in in transfer fees, plus a reduction in around £20M per annum in the wage bill. We have done well to lose Pauliniho, Capoue, Holtby, anyhow we have missed out on a few also. So before the season starts as well as losing the afore mentioned, we need to try and bring in our supposed targets, finsih off this Alderwield deal, get McCarthy in (need some more bite in that midfield) Carrusco from Monaco seems an upgrade on the incponsitant Townsend, for the same cost, Mirales from Everton also and if Benteke doesent want to come, get Berahino from WBA for around 12M

So overall we could have around £90M in wage savings and transfer fees and spend around £60M out = £30M towards a new stand at the new stadium! We already have a number of good young players that we can add to the squad - Wimmer, Alli, Pritchard, Carroll, Tripper, Yedalin, young fast hungry [players looking to impress on a fraction of the wages of Adey, the future is bright, the future is white!

So first XI would be - Lloris (Hopefully Utd will look elsewhere) Trippier (much more solid than Walker) Rose, Vertongan, Alderwield, McCarthy, Bentalib, Eriksen, Carrasco, Lamela/Berehino & Kane. The squad will have back up in all areas, so we can go for it on all fronts. I was super annoyed going out to Leicester in the FA cup, which we had a opportunity to get to the final.

I agree Delph would be good, I doubt if he would be first choice at Man City, Ravel Morrison?? He would be free wouldnt he?

    That's a solid 11 by the way!!

We should sign Hernandez, all he does is score when actually played. Good alternative to Kane. Also get Shaqiri, very dangerous player which something we lack.
Don't give up on Stambouli yet but possibly get Raboit if the fee is right as a possible replacement

All good options, however I think Hernandez would have had enough of being a 2nd choice (at best) his next move will need to be as the main striker somewhere, if he wants to sit on our bench as an impact striker or just in cup games, he will be welcome with open arms. Shaqiri would be great, so would Rabiot, who I suspect will stay at PSG though, Stambouli looks to be one his way out tbh, he didnt do too much wrong when I saw him play, but not enough right by the looks of things for Poch

Bolasie and Austin with cabye I know the later is older but he is just what we need , can pick a pass from deep and don't mind sticking his foot in

  12. Finboy Guest

Shaqiri, Guidetti (or similar young attacker), McCarthy (or similar defensively minded CM) should do it. Shaqiri is a player I would not like to see in the opposing team.

Not convinced about Austin really, had a great season personally in a bad team, dosent seem to have much pace, I would go with Berehino has the back up to KAne, who can also play out wide. Cabaye is the opposite of what Poch is looking for, although Eriksen needs some support being the only "Number 10" we have

  14. Jamie Guest

Charlie Austin! I can't understand why we haven't made a big effort to sign him, wouldn't be too expensive and can definatly add goals.

If we can't get schniederlin, which seems the case, then McCarthy in midfield.

I don't think we desperately need a winger, chadli, Townsend and Lamela are all showing signs they can have a good season.

To follow on from the astute signing of TA - I would like to see Spurs add a bit of experience/ know-how to what is already a VERY young squad...especially in the heart of the midfield.

Because while players like Mason, Bentelab, Alli and Dembele all have their uses/ qualities, I don't feel that any of them REALLY represent the CONSISTENTLY commanding influence in central midfield that all the very best teams around the world possess.

Juventus area prime example of a side designed to dominate, arguably, the most important area of the pitch using a finely-balanced blend of aggression, power, guile, athleticism, creativity and know-how/ experience to more often than not impose their will upon their opponents, with the likes of Vidal, Marchiso, Pogba and of course, Pirlo, being the main provocateurs.

Yes we have good players in CM, at the moment, who will no doubt get better. And in Dembele, I believe Spurs have a player who, on his day, can outshine any midfielder in the land.

But in terms of depth (of quality), diversity (in styles) and consistency (with regards to performance levels on a weekly basis) I still feel that Spurs could do with another senior operator in that area of the field.

Four players who I feel could SERIOUSLY improve the teams fortunes, and who would, all, be considered viable, experienced options are:

    Ever Banega (Playmaker)

Undoubtedly, one of the most gifted CM midfielders of his generation, the only thing that has stopped the supremely talented Argentine from reaching the dizzying heights in the game that his talents deserve is his suspect attitude, and unfortunate injury record. Ever the wild-child, (excuse the pun ;)), Banega has grown up with a reputation for being a bit of a playboy, who's lifestyle isn't always one that entails the kind of discipline most associated with a top-level professional sportsman. But perhaps their are signs that in recent years Ever is maturing slowly, with proof of that maybe coming in his role of helping Sevilla win the EL, and make a long awaited return to the CL.
Vision, guile, two-good feet, and skills that will have you on the edge of your seat, Banega also possesses the sort of aggression and strength that will make sure he is not over-rawed by the physical nature of the English game.
A gamble given his past? Maybe. But at 27 years old and unlikely to go for exceeding £14m, I would suggest that it is a gamble well worth taking!

Fabien Delph (Box 2 Box midfielder)

Many people laughed at me when I suggested that Spurs should be looking at signing Delph a few seasons back. Indeed, I believe at the time I claimed that Fabien SHOULD of gone to the last WC, WOULD go on to become the conerstone of the England team for the European qualifying campaign and COULD play for any of the top 4 sides in the PL.
Well a few years later and I think it's safe to say that I've been proven right !
Because after overcoming a tough start to life in Englands top-flight, FD has gone from strength to strength and as a result has gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the division.
Athletic, strong and aggressive, if reports are true that the Englishman has a £8m-£10m release clause in his contract for any team playing in European competition than a bid of that sum should be a no brainer.
The ONLY thing SLIGHTLY going against the signing of Delph would be the fact that he is left-footed, meaning a combination of him, Bentelab and Dembele could appear a little lop-sided. But listen, I'm clutching at straws here. He would fit in perfectly with Pochettinos high octane pressing game, and a combination of Dembele, Bentelab and Delph in tough away games would be a daunting proposition for any opposing team.

    Moussa Sissoko (Box to Box)

I bet you didn't see this one coming! But when you think about it, this guy could be exactly what Spurs need. Powerful, purposeful and as physical as they come, Moussa Sissoko, is a PROVEN EPL performer who deserves a crack at playing for more than just survival at Newcastle. A midfielder in a similar mould of Yaya Toure, Sissoko has got the potential to be just as big for Spurs, as the Ivorian has been in the past for City. A genuine goal-scoring threat from distance, and with his runs beyond the striker into the box, Sissoko would give Spurs a COMPLETELY new dimension.

    Fredy Guarin (Complete Midfielder)

All of my choices so far as potential transfer have come as a result of thinking outside of the box (is that another pun?), and this latest one is no different.
Fredy Guarin is a supremely talented player, who has seen and done it all as far as his career in Italy is concerned. Scudettos, CL winners medals and WCC titles were all welcome accolades/ prizes to add to those he won during his spell at Porto which included the Europa League and Lge Title.
The guy is a winner, it's as simple as that. And as such he would come to the club with a level of experience and an aura similar to the likes of Edgar Davids, William Gallas and Rafa Van Der Vaart.
All of those performers mentioned helped not only raise the profile of THFC around the world, but also lifted/ excited the supporters, and the players around them.
All of them played KEY roles in Spurs taking HUGE strides on the pitch and I have no doubt that Guarin could do the same.
Please, do not get me wrong, Fredy would be more than just a name to help sell shirts and lift morale. He is like I said a VERY talented footballer who possess most if not all of the qualities/attributes required to be a top-class performer in the modern game. At 29 he should available at a relatively modest fee, bringing with him an experience, quality and know-how that you simply cannot put a price upon.

So there you have it! The Ram using his deep understanding and extensive knowledge of the game to name 4 high-quality, realistic, transfer targets without including the same old boring names.i.e. Schneiderlin, Mccarthy, etc
Hey, maybe Spurs should of appointed me, instead of Paul Mitchell, to help restructure our transfer strategy... Probably would've save the club a few bob in compensation by doing that too!

Jokes aside though and I've been fairly impressed with our transfer dealings so far.

Levy has managed to rid the squad of some of the players that Pochettino CLEARLY didn't trust, and bring in the type of young, hungry, ambitious talent that the Argentine admires.

With Stambouli, Chiriches, Soldado, Adebayor, Fazio and Lennon still all likely to go before the closure of the transfer window, Spurs will be hoping to raise at least another £20m-£25m from sales.

What is important when you have an array of young talent at a club is that you don't block/ hamper their progress/ development by making needless big-name/ unnecessary signings.

Alli, Pritchard, Dier, Bentaleb, Mason, and Kane will all be required to play a good number of games next year if they are to continue to grow as players.

And people like Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend, Dembele and Lamela, all have PLENTY of scope to improve upon their performances and statistics from last year.

So if I was Poch, I would be spending the majority of my time looking for the experienced central midfielder, and the couple of strikers I feel can get the side seriously challenging the other big teams both demstically, and abroad, next season.

I think we have to be realistic as to the position of the club at present. Money is going to be piled into the development of the new stadium over the coming years which will have an impact on the transfers paid out on players.

We have a young squad with the likes of Dier, Wimmer, Yedlin, Bentaleb, Alli, Mason, Eriksen, Kane and selected others. These players are going to be key in a stable side that needs to play regularly together over the coming years before we can even think about attracting so called 'big names' to the club with the financial packages that come with them.

The sales of Paulinho, Capoue, Stambouli (near enough) are a start along with Chiriches, Kaboul, Fazio, Townsend and Adebayor for me personally. Like every spurs fan, i have wanted Soldado to kick on and show why we paid the fee we did but i think he soon will be leaving on a jet plane.

That leaves centre midfield, a wide man, and two strikers neeeded to balance the squad.

Midfield - We have an array of young, promising midfielders but what we lack is experience. We were caught snoozing with our attempts to sign Schneiderlin last summer and he looks set to move to Man Utd any time now. He would have been an excellent signing however a more experienced player to slot in alongside Bentaleb would not go a miss. I think Cabaye would have been an affordable transfer fee, however his wage demands would be high, who could have given us experience and more creativity. Palace look set to make a big signing with him.

Winger - My first question - why not try Yedlin wide right? The guy is filled with speed and has performed so well for USA when asked to play there? Why go looking for something when we potentially have a gem right at our doorstep. Townsend is frustrating on the eye, cutting back on his favoured left when it seems a far better option to deliver the ball in once he has already seemingly beaten the man. He also doesn't score enough for a player in such an attacking position. Chadli has pushed on last season but tailed off towards the end. Hopefully he kicks on and we get the best out of Eriksen and i don't know what to make of Lamela.

Striker - Names have been thrown around and i probably wouldnt sell Soldado unless someone else was lined up to come in who may actually score....! Adebayor has got to go, waste of wages every week but which other club will want to pay the same for a player so inconsistent and barely on the football pitch. Keeping Soldado, bring in another younger, developing striker to compliment the balance.
Shame Martial signed an extension as he looks a prospect!

Ramos, I think Sissoko is a great shout tbf. Not only a box to box but can also play a little deeper and more orthodox of the holding two. Newcastle often deploy him out wide right similar to how mourinho plays Ramirez from time to time in bigger games to hold a tighter midfield than normal. Certainly different to what we have or been mentioned. Cabaye would be my choice at 8-10m even with little sell on. However I'm convinced this is the area next to be strengthened. Hope so!

I think that Austin may yet turn into a "first season wunderkinder". QPR are reported to have turned dow £20 mill, so I think your definition of "too expensive" and mine might be out of sync. I know the same might be said of Kane, but I think you can see a real footballing brain inside his head, and thats why I am confifident that he will thrive. I just can't yet make that leap of faith with Austin.

Just to pick up on a couple of your comments, as far as the Stadium is concerned, it will not be the drain on resources that many imagine. I can't remember the price quoted, but say it's £650 mill. This does not allow for the sale/development of the old site. I recall reading somewhere that we need to increase our average gate by about 4k to finance it on a 25 year mortgage

Regarding Soldado, I'd be inclined to put him out on loan to Celtic until Xmas, and see if a bit of Haggis Bashing would get his mojo back.
