Key midfield target sparks summer transfer talk; Spurs linked with Man Utd bad boy

Despite the summer transfer window being a couple of months away and the small matter of the rest of this campaign and a top-four finish still to be played out, the Tottenham transfer rumours are coming thick and fast.

Today’s rumour mill has a familiar face linked to the White Hart Lane club with a new name being surprisingly touted.

Morgan Schneiderlin’s latest comments suggest that the French midfielder is eyeing up a summer move away from Southampton and that he feels that an exit from St Mary’s seems likely.

Although Arsenal are also in the running for the 25-year-old’s signature, Spurs are regularly touted as an interested party.
Schneiderlin stated that he has had no contact with Arsenal but feels he will be available for a transfer this summer.

“I have a contract until 2017. Today, I aspire to play at the highest level. I haven't been in contact with Wenger.

“There are clubs that are interested, but I haven't agreed to join anyone. I am concentrating on my matches. I know for sure that something is going to happen.”

Schneiderlin has proven that he is a top performer for the Saints and there is no doubting that he has what it takes to play in a top four side.

Bringing him to Tottenham would be an excellent addition, with the France international adding energy, bite and slick passing to the team.

That said, with our current partnership of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason continuing to blossom, Schneiderlin’s acquisition could well inhibit their progression.

Meanwhile, Tottenham and our North London rivals are also being linked with Jonny Evans today, with a report surfacing in The Belfast Telegraph stating that the Manchester United man could be on the move this summer.
Louis van Gaal has shuffled his pack at the back this season and with new defenders on the Old Trafford club’s hitlist, Evans’ future is in doubt.

The Northern Ireland international was embroiled in a spitting scandal against Newcastle recently also.

Evans has plenty of Premier League experience and is a straight down the line defender, but just where he would fit in at Tottenham is questionable.

With Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio and Eric Dier at the club already, Spurs have options at the heart of their defence.

If Younes Kaboul does finally leave White Hart Lane this summer a replacement will be needed, and someone of Evans’ experience could be useful.

That said, a younger option that can develop into a top player at White Hart Lane would be preferable.

 

Think Schneiderlin has probably moved on from a move to spurs as he has continued to progress from last season when we were linked. Be a great deal if we could pull it off but I suspect he will aspire to bigger things. Jonny Evans no thank you average centre half and a spitter. John Stones of Everton got great potential and be a better fit.

 

Please no not johnny evans ! Hope this is joke, have never rated evans, he always looks nervous and is a mistake waiting to happen. Always feel teams have a chance against Utd if he's playing. Theres got to be better alternatives. A good draw tonight between Utd and the nomads would suit spurs, more games they both have to play the better. Coys.

 

Can't see schniederlin happening. Jonny Evans!! No thanks. The talk seems to be a bid for Alderwierld, a player we could've got two seasons ago. Already won trophies as a centre back pairing with vertonghen. Capoue, Paulinho, Chriches, Soldado & Adebayor can all be moved on

 

We could yet make top four (only one point off Liverpool who are, apparently, nailed on, after all). If that happens, I'm not so sure you could say Schneiderlin really has moved on to bigger things. But I agree that signing him may inhibit the development of our young midfield. I thought Schneiderlin was a virtual necessity last summer, and we may have started the season better if we got him. Even in January, I felt like it was a signing we should really try to make happen. With the arrival of Alli in the summer, I'm not so sure that overall we wouldn't be better continuing to promote from the youth set-up and buying in young talent.

Don't really want Evans...but, to go slightly off-topic, just WTF is going on at United? I mean, given that he is only there for another two years and could fail to get them into the CL for their second season running, are the good folk at OT really sure they want him rip the team he inherited to pieces while filling it with expensive players who may or may not adapt to the EPL?

 

We shouldn't be hesitant to disrupt the partnership of Mason and Bentaleb if we can sign a top level player. We've seen plenty of times this season where we needed another top center mid but it just hasn't been there for us. I say sign him if possible and let the three battle it out for playin time. It will only improve our starting lineup and our depth for our always hectic schedule.

 

Our best chance is if we finish top four, then we have a good chance of getting Schneiderlin. We have a favorable schedule compared to that of Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool or even Southampton. Schneiderlin would bring a perfect balance to our midfield and I believe Mason and Bentaleb can benefit from his experience and a rotation of those 3 in our midfield would be great.

Evans is an average defender, don't really need or want him. Jan has enough experience, now it's time to look for someone young.

 

jonny Evans? Seriously? Awful player. No better than Kaboul so a pointless signing, Rio Ferdinand has experience but he is still not someone I would want near my team!!

And as the author says, Schneiderlin will do very well in a top four side. A top four side!!! We are not a top four team so why would he choose us?

Poch will improve things in the summer but we haven't exactly got much of a carrot to dangle without champions league football.

We can offer a new stadium being built but then United, Woolwich, Citeh, etc can already offer massive stadiums so it's not a deal breaker really.

Poch will buy carefully and buy youth but I can't see too many names such as Benteke, berahinho etc really choosing us with the prospect of possibly champions league football in the near future.

We need to be realistic. I said at the start of this season that we will finish 6th and I still believe I will be proved right.

Next season missing out on the top four is not an option. Not an option at all.

 

Morgan Schneiderlin would be a quality acquisition and certainly the sort we should be trying to sign; in addition to a solid and agile CB, and a proven striker. As for Evans, not a chance. Not even Baldini would get involved in that! Would suit the spammers IMO.

 

Transfer in whoever! Hardest job will br keeping Eriksen, Lloris , Vertonghen, Chadli even! Retaining their services and new contracts should be main priority, THEN look for new recruits!
