Not long now until we head to Wembley to take on Chelsea in the league cup final. Opinion appears to be divided as to the importance of winning the cup and whether winning the Europa league should take precedence in our thoughts.

I don't feel that we should compare the two really and it is my belief that winning the league cup on Sunday could be vital in the future progression of Pochettino's Young Tottenham squad.

I am admittedly old fashioned when it comes to my football and I want to see trophies being won. Finishing fourth is of course what most teams now aspire to, but for me, silverware will always come first.
By beating Chelsea on Sunday, it would show that we are ready to win trophies again and hopefully that we can be positive about the future.

By playing a high tempo game as we did with such great effect on New Years Day, we have every chance of picking up that trophy. Winning breeds confidence and there is nothing better than the feeling beating Chelsea can bring to a Tottenham fans heart!

Of course, winning the league cup does also fill me with some fear. Under Juande Ramos we won the trophy and there was a feeling that Spurs were on the rise, but after that win, we failed to pick up many more points and started the following season in disastrous style before Arry took charge and provided us with a top four finish and an exhilarating Champions league run.

Although that fear keeps niggling in the back of my head, I don't see it happening again should we win on Sunday afternoon. We are fitter (Sunday aside) and stronger and victory is just the catalyst we need to tell the rest of the Premier league that we mean business under Pochettino.

Defeat is not necessarily the end of the world, but victory could be vital in the progress of this Tottenham squad.

More than ever, COME ON YOU SPURS!!!!!!

c/l is what will attract top players not the bloody Carling cup, it is always nice to win any cup but it is vital that we qualify for c/l soon or we only get to sign more average players and probably lose our best players again

We are a younger side than Chelski so shouldn't want for legs and Matic is out, unless some appeal works ! Matic has been a key player for them and he will be missed. Chelski are of course still very strong but in Harry Kane we the in form striker of the season. Be a great achievement to beat them in this cup again ! Coys.

We have 2 big games on the bounce, why are so many talking about prioritising?
Its getting towards the business end of the season where the men start proving their worth your either in it to win it or your simply making the numbers up.

Lets put this into perspective hypothetically - if it was a CL game instead of a EL game would a weakened side even be a question? Even though the EL is a far more realistic target than CL?
    No it wouldnt.

Field a weak side on Thursday and go out, then field a full strength side in the final and lose what then?
At least if youve give it your best shot to win things theres no shame or regrets even if you fall short.

I have said it before if your not going to take a competition seriously there is no point in labouring through it just to whimper out at a later stage.

2 massive games in the season i want to see passion from the side a final vs the Blue Scum and a chance to get closer to european glory with CL qualification as the icing not only why would you rest players? Why would players want to be rested?

The mind set of the club and fans has to change were all way too accepting of failure, even after the players won at Sheff utd they were imediately saying 'were just happy to get to the final'- the job isnt done you have to have that added hunger for the Trophy its what sets the winners apart.
We labour about Sundays after EL games (which themselves are always laboured and turgid affairs) bemoaning midweek when half the team didnt even play that Thursday, and everyone acts like this is totally acceptable.

We should be looking and going all out for a cup double!

We're not going to win the EL because the CL drop-outs (or drop-ins) are too good for us - we really struggled against Besiktas FFS! - so it's got to be an all-out effort to beat Chelsea on Sunday, otherwise this will be yet another trophy-less so-called 'transition' season. Being the little ray of sunshine that I am, I'm absolutely certain that we won't make Top Four and qualifying for the CL by winning the EL was always a fantasy - I don't actually expect us to beat Chelsea, but it's that or nothing for us this year!

Cheshuntboy- i am mostly in agreement with you, but early part of the season we play a total 2nd string in the EL so yes Besiktas then becomes a difficult game while its still early stages of the comp.
We have already proven that we can beat Chavs and Scum who are both CL level so there is no reason if we approach the rest of the Competition seriously that we dont have as good a chance as any in it.
We will of course have to approach all games with the correct atitude which is very questionable at times if we are to succeed but weve got to give both our best shot.

F#CK 4TH we have a fighting chance for 2 cups something to put in the honours list not fake success that the Arse dine out on!

There is no shame in falling short if youve given it your best shot!

I don't understand this whole 'Thursday/Sunday' EL problem, but the facts speak for themselves - virtually all clubs in the EL suffer from a Sunday hangover, and we seem more affected than most. Yes, we've beaten Chelsea and Arsenal this year, but I still wouldn't back us against many of the remaining bigger clubs in the EL over two legs, and we've got to beat another four to win it, even if we get past Fiorentina. Sorry, but I think the Chelsea game on Sunday is our only chance of success this season, and we'd be mad to jeopardise any chance of victory by playing our best team on Thursday.

Totally agree with felon if we bow out of both cups in four days its a disastrous week after west ham points dropped and repercussions for the confidence of the side massive. Prioritize Thursday then focus on prioritizing Sundays game! And maybe win something!

Score draws with away goals means the only game you really have to win is the final .... 7 draws , 1 win , job done .... lol ...

Weve got one hand on the league cup we would have to be ****ing brainless not to put our fittest and strongest out there in team in order to lift it. I will be gutted if we send the likes of Kane and Eriksen over to Fiorentina. The Europa is still very much a long shot and we probably blew it by not winning the first game so send a team that can play ugly if necessary and frustrate the home team and then hope for the best, how many other teams have done it to us lately.
This is a cup final at Wembley FFS against a very good but beatable Chelsea. COYMFS
