I see our flaky friend is crediting Pochettino with transforming Dembele from the exciting dynamic midfielder we thought we'd bought from Fulham into the impossible to dispossess but utterly unthreatening lump we ended-up with - presumably his list also includes changing Janssen from Dutch Young Player of The Year 2016 into Mr Couldn't Hit a Cow's Arse With a Banjo 2017, Sanchez from One of the Most Coveted Central Defenders in Europe into a one-man Anthony Gardner Tribute Act, Rose from the Best Right-back in the PL 2017 to whatever it is he's been for the past three years - I could go on, but I can't be bothered to.

Yet it’s Levy’s fault in other contexts?

Best Dutch forward and Sanchez.....take a look at Van de Beek to answer your own question about the standards coming out of the Dutch league. When exactly was Rose the best RB in any league?

    4 x top 4 finishes under Pochettino (5 seasons)
    2 x top 4 finishes pre Pochettino (22 seasons)

Despite all protestations, the above clearly indicates an improvement during the 5 seasons to the 22 previous (consistency)

Anyway, match coming up. The previous meeting, although 3-3, felt like a loss and they appear to be in form. Their striker-situation makes me believe that since it looks weak then their striker will of course score...

Am not sure how they are playing, possibly their threat is from corners and runs from deep by Soucek?

I'd go with the team that beat West Brom. Possibly start Alli over Son and let Son come in against a tired defense. But maybe better to let Son get his rest during the midweek and let Alli get his playing time against lesser opposition. Moura and Lamela appear to be good at changing positions so their movement could cause some problems for West Ham. Then have Bale come in when Lamela gets tired and gets his yellow for a reckless tackle.

For your information, Rose was left-back in the PFA Team of the Year 2016/17 (that means his fellow pros voted him best in his position in the PL - OK?).

For your further information, Pochettino's five full seasons at Spurs produced an average league position of 3.4, and average points of 73.6. The previous five full seasons under three different managers, and with intermittent turmoil as each of the three fell out with Levy, produced average points of 68.4, and average PL position of 4.8.

Improvement under Pochettino (for various reasons, principally Kane's emergence in my opinion)? Yes. Transformation? Five more points and one-and-a-bit places per season isn't a transformation in my book, even if it is in yours.

What in the hell has that to do with your assessment of Dembele which I was questioning in my post as you had him in your best Tottenham players in the last 60 years Jose’s ghost

  6. I’m sure THFC being the informed fellow that he is knows all about Danny Rose including the fact that he’s never played right back... that is what you said

So no he certainly doesn’t need a lecture from you

Do you ever think before you speak? it is quite difficult to tell

  7. Preed please just read what I said rather than attempt to interpret is as something else... it is not abstruse

I have read again what you said about Dembele being one of the best defensive midfielders in the premiership and being one of Tottenham’s best players in the last 60 years which I find laughable and you reply with a post about spurs being a cup team which has nothing to do with anything we were discussing.he would not get in the top 100 past players

You’ve accused me of being dismissive and disrespectful in the past so I’m going to politely walk you through my rather simple statements as I’ve grown to like you somewhat more than I used to

Dembele was widely considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the EPL for a period (I would say best but for Kante). That is just a given whether you like it or not

Now I never said he was one of Spurs best players in the last 60 years... for starters I’m not qualified to make such an assertion having not seen every player who has played for the club during that entire time. Unlike others here I don’t express an opinion... just because I can... if not properly informed

What I did say... which is 100% correct... is that he was one of the best players on the best side since 1960/61

I trust that clears things up for you

He was never one of the best players at any time after1960 and believe me I have watched spurs since1955.blanchflower McKay ardilles hoddle John white perryman mabbutt vandevart bale Ramsay Clarke need I go on and I have not mentioned the real great forwards although they obviously played in a different position to Dembelebut there is no way would he be in any long time supportere top 100

I've long since given-up responding to Jose's Ghost/Flawless/Whatever else he's posted as, because I honestly think he's unbalanced - ridiculous OTT compliments in one post (I was apparently the smartest guy on this site a while back), and vile personal abuse the next (see any of his recent posts to me for examples). He's jumping up and down at the moment like a spoilt brat because I said 'right-back' instead of 'left-back', as if that totally invalidates my post, and that's the level he operates at, as he's shown in all his incarnations on here. I think I'll stop referencing his stupid opinions altogether, and if everyone did the same (apart from his mate THFC, obviously) he might just find another outlet for his ravings.

  12. You are going off on another tangent but an interesting one nevertheless

Would he rank in Spurs top 100 since we won the league? Who’s casting the vote?

Dembele would be in the team of the past decade if his teammates had any say in it. Many if not all of them considered him the best player in the squad.

There have only been six decades since so he would definitely be in the argument whether you like it or not

  13. For someone who apparently is ignoring me you certainly are spending a lot of time reading my posts and talking about me

    Hilarious

It is a bit too late for being sanctimonious don’t you think? You love to throw **** like a chimp on a public forum then turn to water when dealt some of your own medicine

Take the high road Cheshuntboy... nothing to be stressed about except the dire football that’s been dished up this term

How do you know what his teammates would have said about him are you an ex player??I note you have now shortened your 60 years to a decade.soon you will be agreeing with most of the rest of us that he was wasted talent

I didn’t disagree with your statement about him being a great left back (although Marcos Alonso & Leighton Baines might have something to say about it) but he certainly never was the best right back.

For your information, the points tally makes very little difference for the purpose of the conversation because the leagues final standings represent our performance in it. So if we had 73.6 or 64.8, what actually mattered was where did we finish in relation to the other teams and did we get in CL or not.

Transformation occurs when you have a marked change in form, nature, or appearance. So, from having reached the CL 2 x in 22 years to reaching it 4 x times in 5 years does in fact count as transformation thanks to the consistency of the appearances in the Oxford dictionary book.

Although I agree that he was a great player that didn’t do a great deal in the final third and carried way too man at injuries, when he was playing he clearly was very talented and was almost impossible to know I off the ball.

In terms of his team mates, this might help answer your question:

“In my opinion - Dembele,” Dele Alli told Soccer AM when asked who is the best player at the club.
“He is very good, his feet are unbelievable, he’s big but he shifts his body so easily.”

Eric Dier, who partnered Dembele in midfield regularly, said this when asked who was his best team-mate: “Mousa Dembele, I don’t think anyone will give you a different answer to be honest.
“He’s a freak of nature, physically he’s a monster and he’s got ballerina feet at the same time, it's quite special.

Victor Wanyama, another midfield partner of Dembele said: “The best player at Spurs is Mousa Dembele.
“He glides past payers easily in training and even in games. You know what he is going to do but you can’t get the ball.
“He is really strong and his dribbling is really simple but you can’t get the ball.”

Danny Rose described Dembele as 'someone I’d pay to watch' and added: “He’s unbelievable, just how he plays the game, he makes it look so easy, he glides past players."

Mousa Dembele for me [is our best player], he has power, strength and pace,” Winks said.
“His technique with both feet. The way he can beat anyone face-up makes him the best player for me.”

Bailing your mate out well done Thfc.I am amazed that with such talent we did not win the league.we all know he was talented that’s not the argument. The argument is that he wasted all that talent on match days by not creating chances or scoring .He was the most frustrating in the fact that he could beat players easily but then came back and tried to do it again instead of opening up teams or getting shots away. Not surprised that winks and Dier were impressed they would probably say the same about Sissoko

I dont disagree with you on his wasted talent in the final third however I think it’s pretty well publicised that any of his former team mates rate him at the top of their lists of quality players.

Not trying to bail anyone out...you asked and that was what they had said but just in terms winks and dier, here’s a few more:

    Everton's Ross Barkley, March 2017
"He's probably the hardest player I've played against. He's a strong player, he gets his foot in well and dictates play."

Belgium and Tottenham teammate Jan Vertonghen, Feb. 2017
"I don't think people know how good Mousa is. You can ask every single player in the team and I don't think you can describe how good Mousa is. You can only know if you play with him or against him, see him train for a couple of weeks, then you'll find out. He's a special player and I can't think of anyone else who is a bit like him. For me, he's up there with the best two or three midfielders in the league."

Belgium teammate Kevin De Bruyne, April 2016
"For me, in a five-a-side, he's the best player in the world. He's so strong on the ball, you can never take the ball of him. Offensively and defensively, he's one of the best."

Belgium teammate Wesley Sonck on the country's "golden generation," Oct. 2015
"I insist: the greatest talent is Mousa Dembele. Some may say they want Eden [Hazard] or De Bruyne, but Mousa has the most qualities -- it's not normal how strong he is on the ball. I've seen him during training turn [Vincent] Kompany into a fool."

  19. Back to the doghouse with you

How do I know? I read... much like THFC.

You should give it a go... it is not as difficult as it seems

Joe Cole is quoted saying that he knows the England coaching staff think highly of Winks and Pochetino says he is one of the most promising youngsters he has seen Must be right then. The spurs players were saying te same things about Ali not long ago
