I know the Lampard comment sounds contradictory for a JM team too but we are getting enough players in and around the box we just need a player who can pick a pass in the final third and find one of them
    IMO

  2. I would very much prefer we play without a number 10 ie. a flat 433... but it seems we have reverted again to a 4231 in the last couple of fixtures.

I have never liked this formation even when Pochettino was getting a tune out of it. I think the balance of a proper three man midfield is much better. Have Hojbjerg sit centrally and let the other two (Ndombele, Sissoko or Lo Celso) pick their moments. That is where Frank did his damage.

As I said let’s see how he does against Chelsea’s midfield, or City’s this weekend.

    Tottenham vs Manchester City

    TEAM NEWS

Tottenham are without Matt Doherty, who tested positive for Covid-19 on international duty.
Steven Bergwijn is available despite being sent back by the Netherlands after they declared he was not fit enough, but Erik Lamela remains out.
Manchester City forwards Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have returned to training after injury and could feature on Saturday.
However, Fernandinho will miss out because of a stomach problem.

    MATCH FACTS

Tottenham's 2-0 home victory in February ended a run of six Premier League games without a win in this fixture.
Manchester City have only lost more Premier League games against Chelsea than the 24 they have versus Tottenham.
In both of Manchester City's two fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Son Heung-min has scored, Hugo Lloris has saved a penalty and the visitors have failed to score.

Great performance today and credit where it’s due .I am not always a fan of the Mourino way of playing but today it worked.Kane was superb today and for all the criticism given including me to Dier this was his best game for us for a long time.Work rate was great from everyone long may it continue

It's a different style under JM, we are going to be a match for everyone that plays us this season with every win belief and confidence grow.
We are starting to see many of our mentally weak boys become men and the players that don't cut the mustard being sidelined.
    We need winners not pretenders

Toby, Dier and PEH...magnificent...the injury to Toby is a terrible loss just as we start our toughest run of games. That being said, Rodon looked ok when he came on and he will have the opportunity to really show his ability over the next 4 weeks.

Ndombele played well, the substitution was literally at the perfect moment because he was just starting to lose steam thanks to all of his running. He would be amazing if he could head a football...Ndombele is to heading what Sissoko is to shooting.

Sissoko yet again was a beast, covering every inch of the pitch.

    Bring on Chelsea

There are some brave decisions being made and they are proving why success and JM seem to go hand in hand.

I also think it looks like we are actually getting a bit of luck with the lack of fans impacting the usual high pressers (and driving intensity) and injuries hitting everyone as hard as we have usually been smashed by.

Too soon to think we could win anything but we are definitely in a better position than when we lost out to Leicester thanks to the changes in mentality and playing style being implemented by JM

Massive opportunity for Rodon and he HAS to make the grade for us to keep up this level we are at. We also need Bale to join the party if we are to win this league. Are we actually talking about winning leagues lol

The match was a great example of what a manager can do. Sometimes the opposition has better players and then the manager has to win by making it about having a better team rather than the better individual players.
Going toe to toe against Man City and playing attacking football might have resulted in plenty of goals, possibly it would be said to be entertaining but I believe it would have been a loss. I found the match exciting as it was and I prefer the win.
Only concern was the high line when defending set pieces. Was it Rodri or someone else who had a free header and if that header had been place on either side of Lloris instead of straight into his palms then Man City would have scored. But it is the modern way of defending so I should just get with the times....

Great performance from all on the pitch. Performances like that can win trophies, however, there is always some luck involved in winning a trophy so nothing is certain. I am hoping though & I am not fearing any opposition.

JM might not be everyone's cup of tea, however. no one can say he isn't a top class manager.

In his short time at spurs i have found JM management style intriguing. His ruthlessness in match day squad selection has been vindicated with results.
Dele and winks look like they have to move on to get 1st team football, if they were replaced with a DM like Peh and a box to box with Sisoko physical attributes but who could pass and play football it would make the squad more balanced and stronger.

I don't see the Mid/ Low block and giving up possession as a problem, however, spurs haven't mastered the art of the counter attack in terms of pass/control quality. When spurs get it right the counter offers up some decent goal scoring opportunities.

Yes the counter generally creates better (though considerably fewer) chances.

It is an effective style when everyone buys in but the method wears thin over time... it is a form of tactical attrition after all and an approach that few if any players would particularly enjoy playing.

The squad will enjoy winning for now of course (and hopefully something of note by the end of the season) but there is a reason why Jose has always been the ultimate short term solution.

And the problem is what exactly?

So... You are ready to give full credit to Levy/ENIC for hiring proper manager and for turning things around, are you not?

To be fair if they'd been more pro active in the market during Pochettinos tenure then perhaps we wouldn't have had to watch the whole collapse that brought about JMs arrival.
That's not really something that a board should be praised for.
Again they didn't buy a striker in January that JM was desperate for which could've got us in the CL this year.
So although JM has been a breath of fresh air from Mr Bery Appy (try telling your face that) as is the case with most managers under the disease that is ENIC it usually is in spite of not because of what they've done for the manager/team.
