I think Mourinho has already selected one and is not going to change. When we defend it is 4-1-4-1. Once we're in possession, it is initially 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-4 to be exact and then one fullback moves up to MF making it 3-3-4. Chelsea play it since Mou time there and Sari liked it as well. Lampard also plays what JM called Conte system 3-5-2. Poch used it as well, but current Spurs do not feature pacey wing-backs anymore for such. For the same reason 4-3-3 will not work well either. So I would agree with JM formation.

Jose always gonna favour a 4231 formation. But regardless of formation if you don't have the personnel then neither will work. I've read loads over the past week saying that buying don't necessarily get you out of trouble but that depends. 1 what you buy 2 at what end of the market you buy 3 how decisive and aggressive you are in the market.
One thing for sure is the answers to our problem don't currently lie within our squad.
We need 2 if not 4 top end signings. In particular right bk, defensive mid, centre half and attacker. In that order. I'm not talking the likes of max Aaron's and the like neither. Talking Nathan ake, koubilay, perriera, werner. Can I see it. Absolutely not.

Top end signings do not sign with us. Even when we were in UCL, they would go to clubs with better wages. We may play our last games in UCL against Leipzig and not to come back for years. JM must win with what he got. I think he can.

Another 45 minutes of dross Ali and Moura total waste of space and cant take a challenge.Moura still living off one performance.what a battle for the rest of year without Kane.I really fear for us now.we need a transfer window now

  7. Genevaspurs Guest

Yes we need some transfers activities but also need a manager who understand that we are one player less than out opponent with Dele on the field

Some slight improvement second half at least Lamela andDecelso showed some urgency. As I said before thegame surely not Dier and Winks and I was proven correct they are clueless together.Moura scores but is still a powder puff in the challenges as is Ali.I criticised Pochetino and wanted him gone and wanted Mourino in but he seems as though he does not see the demise of some of our players as was the problem with pochetino. If we do not buy in this window I believe the only way to show Levy our gisgust at his handling of playing matters is by boycott as reduced season ticket and gate receipts is the only thing he will understand but I won’t hold my breath as there are too many starry eyed optimists at our club.

Very boring first half. Boro scored from offside. We scored off a nice team effort. Very boring after. Levy will collect another million from the replay match.

Watching that shambles big fran I couldn’t tell you which system they were playing all I know is that Winks and Dier both slow the game down and don’t pass forward whether they are midfield or part of a 5 at the back.i also thought that Vertongan and Alderweireld were playing along side each other but nobody seem to tell them. You are telling me Dier was part of a back 3 but Mourino obviously didn’t tell the team.if playing a back 3 although we are no good at it then surely play Sanchez who with all his faults does have pace which Vertongan does not.A bit of an aside if you play Vertongan why not try him in midfield he can’t be worse than Dier or Winks

Are you serious he runs like he is towing a caravan he's done time to put him out of his misery

The squad needs major surgery unfortunately as one or two others had said we won't buy anyone in January and we are stuck with what we got Alli has been awful the last two games not sure if he is 100% fit if he isn't give Lo Celso a go in the number 10 role after watching the Liverpool's game I'm wondering if our academy is fit for purpose

Is anyone else angry at the state we've been left in by the Levy Poch double act?

How can we be the only top 4 aspiring side with 1 recognised striker, no proper No1 keeper (I include Lloris in that), the worst RB in the league, 2 LBs that aren't good enough to start, a collection of players that don't want to be there and still after 5 years nothing on the bench.

We don't even have a basic strong 1st 11 anymore and it's almost as if it's a suprise things have fallen apart.
By the end of this window I'd expect at least a new RB, CDM, & a LB just to try and give us some balance.
Then summer needs a big overhaul, we need at least 2 new pacey forwards and a second striker all in early and together working on a new identity because it's now getting on for over a year of lethargic dissinterested unbalanced dross that needs addressing else why on earth should we as fans be investing ourselves in it when the club can't be bothered to give the team the basics?

It's beyond negligence what's unfolded and is unraveling week on week, if as an 'entertainment' it was anything else than football you'd want a refund and wouldn't go again such is the Turgid nature of it all now.

It's like sending your fighter in knowing he hasn't got a chance but just to make sure you've tied his boots together and 1 hand behind his back for good measure.

Poch crying about a painful rebuild before he left after having hid for 3 windows is akin to a Captain in a life boat saying perhaps we should've avoided that iceberg after all.

Pair of absolute frauds yet still they are excused.

I feel sorry for Mourinho , sorry to a point of course because he needs to get to work quickly on upgrades that's down to him and it has to start this window.
We can talk about formations but a formation is little more than structure every team has a formation/formations it's who play in them that make them good or poor.

Poch slowly undid a good side by purchasing poor utility players who specialise in nothing and scattering them around the formation trying to convert them into something they're not.
Look at all the top sides they don't play players out of position unless absolutely necessary, they have players that specialise in their positions and build teams with balance that compliment each others talents but are all strong at their own role/job.

We have a list of players that you can't actually pin point a position they nail down or Excell in -

Foyth, Winks, Dier, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Lamela, Ali, Moura ......

If we add to this that we have 3 recognised full backs 2 of which don't even play, as a collective all 3 are weak and inconsistent to put it kindly.
Our best CBs are wrong side of 30, 1 having to deputise at FB because of the ineptitude.
Our 1 striker out injured again after the last injury caused by the injuries before that all accredited to being ran into the ground every minute and second of every game because despite spending a combined 30 mil + wages on 2 back up strikers we barely ever played them, then sold them and u guessed it never bothered replacing.
Dembele went to the clappers yard wasn't replaced for over half a year, his bodyguard Wanyama went to the clappers probably before him in our treatment room wasn't replaced, Winks and Sissoko the stop gap pairing still being utilised with neither having or showing any ability of being top players at any moment in time ever and they're the engine room.....

That list doesn't even cover all glaring deficiencies as I could write all day about it.

It's an absolute shambles , how it's been allowed to get to this point is an insult to paying fans.
It can only be fixed with ruthless sales and aggressive investment.

Until then it's flogging a dead horse.

I agree and have been saying similar for a while however don’t agree on Sissoko (who has been played in every position possible and has to cover the lack of work rate from both full backs, Alli/Eriksen and lack of pace from Dier and the CB’s).

I read JM mentioning that Son/Moura are not no 9’s, so if he knows that why still play a system that needs one?

I actually like JM and think he has done as well as any other manager could possibly have done.

We need to sign midfield/attackers with pace and fitness...and defenders that know how to defend as their primary job (what’s the use of great ball playing CB’s who can’t defend). We also need to spend big and sign a decent keeper like Oblak.

I also have a question....do you agree with Kane Or Lloris as Captain? I don’t see either behaving like a captain on the pitch when’s we need it to be honest and think we need to focus on signing a central midfielder who will also captain the side.

I have the same opinion of JM apart from the fact that Dele should not start a match until he finds the level that led him to be one of the pillars of the team. his attitude in recent games is dismal and shameful. any young player of our U23 or U21 ane even our U18 would give 100 times more ... even with less quality it would help us more than a puppet gesturing and moaning all the time. And I love(d) Dele... but he was poor all 2019 and he no longer deserves to be included in the basic 11. Kane absent or not ...! Even eriksen is more useful to the team when his level is much lower than 2 years ago

yes felon there is someone else angry with the mess Levy and Pochetino let us drift into ME.For the last 2 years a few of us kept giving warnings about what would happen but we were mostly accused of being negative and the great saviour would turn it round. Those people don’t seem to post much on here any more.I am afraid while Levy is there nothing will change because all he wants is to please the owner with profits. When did the owner last attend a match??I think Mourino will suss this before long and will look for a way out.I am still waiting to see who employs the great fitness trainer to see if he can prove us wrong

I'll tell you at the end of this month whether I feel sorry for Jose. If he's signed a contract under the same restraints as poch then he's an idiot or a mercenary. It's beyond me that levy n Co cannot see this needs serious investment. Liverpool have invested not overly heavily but I bet they are still turning a profit. A big one at that I'd imagine.
Also not sure what system you can play without a no9 the mind boggles.

The thing about positivity/negativity is that (in my opinion) the ones who are constantly one or the other are most of the time wrong. When they are finally right people have stopped listening to them as what they said was always the same positivity/negativity. The reality is usually more nuanced than all being bad or all being good.
The most recent match wasn't great nor was it a disaster, the ones who only saw and/or mention the negative might be blinkered (the same way as the ones who only see and/or mention the positive might be blinkered).

When it comes to recruitment then it might be possible to do in a couple of different ways:
    1. Decide on formation and buy players fitting the formation
    2. Buy good players and shoe-horn them into the team somewhere
One of the strategies have been tried.

Anyway, I'll see if there are posters who never sees anything positive and then I'll probably ignore them, if there are posters who never sees anything negative then I'll probably ignore them as well.

How long did it take for those sides to improve? Those were years when Spurs were ruling the league. Now it is our time to go down. It is normal for the team to age and fall apart. True, it is possible to prolong the inevitable, by constantly investing into new players, sort them out, sell those who did not pan out. Do the work, in other words, not just spend. If spending would produce the trophies, then Everton and West Ham could be in top 4. Last time I checked, they much worse than Spurs, who didn't spend at all. Look at ManU, the Chaves, the Goons...
I fully recognize what youre saying, Felon82, but youre asking for too much. Too much from Levy, who is not a top club executive, too much from Pochettino who is not a top European manager, not yet anyway. Compare to Everton and Ham we have done much better: spent a fracture and have been up much higher. Don't like the comparison? Want to compare with City and Pool? Wrong!! Spurs cannot be compared to those. Hiring JM is the first, although a baby step, toward acting big. It can blow in our faces, as I predict, but I hope not. The fact that Everton copycat Spurs suggests it may be correct way forward. Time will show. Got to be patient and let the Rome to start building.
In any case, there is no sense to cry over the situation: "Everything dies, baby, that's the fact"... the famous singer sang. Very true.
