Clearly my broad-brush approach to Spurs isn't to your taste - you obviously like detail, but seem to be no less cavalier in your nit-picking than I am in my sweeping generalisations. All three of the defenders you cite were very highly rated by a great many supporters (including me) before Pochettino arrived but the defence only clicked as a unit when Alderweireld was snatched from Southampton without any competition from the Big Boys, and I'd put his arrival as second only to Kane's goals in our two golden seasons from 2015 to 2017.
My posts aren't intended as legal documents, or doctoral theses, but I stand by my view that Pochettino's 'success' was as much based on Kane's goals as AVB's near-miss in 2013 was on Bale's, and our marked falling away in the last two years, at the same time as Kane has been injury-plagued, seems more than coincidental to me, if not to you.
As for 'Pochettino is the Messiah', I was again taking a broad view of the praise lavished on him by fans and the media, and I have to concede that no one has - to my knowledge - claimed that he's descended from the House of Jesse, and is destined to lead the Israelites out of exile, and restore the Temple of Jerusalem - you've got me there, and I humbly apologise.

Oh, common, Felon82. We had no chance. Player for player LFC is a better team. When did we beat Klopp last time? The fact that we are the better club is not a valid reason to put blame on players and coach. So, keep blaming Levy for not buying a better squad.
Yes, we were a surprisingly better team than the Reds in this particular tie. Probably long layover played its role. But they got into defensive shape, once they obtained an unfair lead from non-penalty and showed to the world what proper defense can accomplish. Mourinho can be proud of Klopp's work. We had possession, but could not penetrate their flawless backs. Spurs did most running the entire match. Have you ever ran 6 kilometers in 32 degrees heat? No fitness Poch instilled could help, whilst Klopps training philosophy is quite the same.
Yes, Kane was useless. But he is a talisman, isn't he? I would not started him, but I am not MP. I would have kept Winks, who was the best Spur, but it did not matter, because the goal we conceded was from the fcking CORNER, the third is as many games against the Reds . That put the end to the dream. Let's face it, just a dream it was. Spurs as they are, had no business winning there. Do not fool yourselves.
I am disappointed we lost, but satisfied with the way we did it. There is no shame in it at all. Don't make it up.

    Felon,Cheshunt et al,

In my opinion a lot of the points you are making have merit and by themselves make sense. For example, yes it would have been preferential to buy some players but for whatever reason, money, not finding adequate players etc, it wasn’t done .

Yes we have got lucky that other teams didn’t perform but you can never know how we would have performed if they were playing better - we may have lost some drive when we finally realised we weren’t challenging for the title but then thought (wrongly) that 3rd place was already a given

Kane probably shouldn’t have started imo but maybe Lucas would have gone missing even more than him

The point being that, yes there are lots of things that can be changed, thank goodness, otherwise we are in a poor place. But notwithstanding all the setbacks, I haven’t mentioned the stadium mess, we managed to get what anyone, at the beginning of the season would have seen as a great season

You can’t seriously tell me me that if someone offered you top 4 AND a champions league final appearance, you wouldn’t have accepted it?, regardless of the way we achieved it. I would have thought they were taking the piss!

So yes let’s critique and want for more but not lose sight of the reality and find negatives where there aren’t any

Heres hoping for a successful transfer season including keeping some that other teams want - I’m talking to you Toby!

Well I'd prefer to get things on merit rather than gambling with our position.
Especially when having to listen to the nonsense coming from Pochettino every window about projects , bravery , doing things differently and the biggest Gem of all there's no one that can improve the squad and he's happy.
What's worse is I've had many a delusional fan snipe at me on here backing all the above up when it's clearly just an insult to the intelligence of fans.

I've mentioned a number of times a transfer window needs to have planning , direction and conviction after evaluating your weaknesses and doing your best to rectify them.
What do we do derogatory bids for a contract rebel that's neither needed or an improvement?
    Ignore all the glaring deficiencies?
Do we clear out the serial inconsistent performers whether talent or injury prone or both?

It's just a constant burried head in sand routine, that neither improves us or prepares us for the full season which inevitably always ends with us wondering what could've been.

What I can't believe is that watching this happen season after season other fans choose to lambast others for pointing it out and not being pro the evidently flawed method that delivers nearly but never.

Due to the flaws in this buisness model we now embark on a summer where the squad is knackered and void of new ideas, 2 key players look to be heading out the door along with the already gone Dembele so that's 3, has Poch caused a problem by dropping Moura (I know I wouldn't be happy) , we have a stock pile of players that have either gone backwards or are injury prone or simply don't deserve a place at a CL club.
This is going to take huge investment in today's market and that's before we get on to depth so we don't have a bench that looks like the Inbetweeners cast. Not only that but having ran it's course the dreaded 'Transitional Period' is back on the cards.

So yes once again we head into a summer of hope that going on previous evidence will no doubt end in despair and can almost guarantee wel still have exactly the same problems come this time next year and the cycle continues.

Ce says he wants to leave, if i was moura i would be livid that i was overlooked for someone whose already planning their exit. Imo Ce should have been off at half time, how he got to play the entire match, shows up one of MP's biggest flaws, favoritism.

I'm reading that Eriksen wants to "try something different". Well Chris, for a start, what about trying to be a consistently good player ? And if you manage it, show Dele too. Just saying.

Called this one a while ago.. The club and eriksen woukd have already known his position prior to the final and it gave us the perfect opportunity to leave out a senior player in poor form in favour of starting BOTH moura and Kane rather than one or the other ending up in a ridiculous scenario where now fans can question whether Kane should have started or not. Which of course he undoubtedly should.

Looking at the state of this squad now , if as we suspect CE & Toby go, added to the departure of Dembele that's 3 big signings needed just to tread water.

The likes of Lloris Dier Trippier Wanyama Lamela Aurier Llorente Jannssen N'kodou KWP etc all with huge ? Marks over their fitness or levels of performance aswell.

All need to be heavily scrutinized as to their actual contribution and moved on. Even if half that list was sold that's another 5 that need to be improved on.

That's some serious money/investment needed and unless the deadwood is shifted and improved upon its standing still with the same problems.

Spurs need at least one top class cm and one top class wide attacker for starts. Ndombele / Bale level. Imo a left footed Cb is needed as well.

That was brutal, clearly we rode our luck to the final but the effort and play of both teams made the game a toss up. Our lack of experience really hurt us, the players were timid and so was Poch in his team selection.

After sometime and reflection, it's understandable; it being that for most of our players it was a first....manager included. I was gutted for Moura, the effort he put on in the semis only to start on the bench; that's devastating. Clearly, Kane wasn't fit....the right decision was to bench him and put him on if needed, Son and Moura's speed could have hurt Liverpool's back line. Taking off Winks was a mistake as well, we had a foothold in the midfield with him controlling the tempo of the game and keeping Liverpool at bay.

It's understandable to be frustrated as fans, I'm sure Poch and the players were as well. As fans, kicking our team when they are down doesn't really reflect well on us. Unfortunately at times, it does feel like some of our fans were waiting to scream I told you so, criticizing the manager and our players. Those that are gearing for a complete team overhaul need to calm down. That's an impossibility, clearly we'll be losing a few key players (CE & Toby maybe). We have some decent squad players when healthy; Lamela, Waynama and a few others should remain and hopefully have better seasons going forward.

Anyone calling to Poch to leave, Kane to be sold; to me aren't real looking out for our team. You'd think before Poch our team was winning trophies left & right and finishing on top in the league. Let's be realistic, this man has transformed our team and still has lots to give. If we can keep the nucleus of our team together, Kane, Lloris, Jan, and get some key additions including a top attacking midfielder, we should be fine. Levy, needs to back Poch; allow him to get some proper players...and pay our top talents what they deserve.

Yes, the season ended bitterly....but overall; it was a success. Let's move forward, there's lots of improvements needed but we can get there!!

Two years ago, much of this post would have been indisputable, but Spurs 2019 aren't a patch on Spurs 2017 - Walker and Dembele have gone, most of the defence has reached veteran (if not quite geriatric) status, and the young players who were supposed to be on the verge of super-stardom are now barely worth a place on the bench - does anyone think United or Real Madrid will be in for Dier or Alli any time soon? 'Keeping together' a team that has manifestly reached its sell-by date may be what actually happens, given Levy's legendary parsimony, but it's obviously not what's needed, and if the players who failed so abjectly in Madrid are still the core of the team when phase two of the never-ending 'project' resumes, we'll be back in contention for the 'Best of the Rest' trophy (with no guarantee of winning it, to judge from our recent PL form).

Sad but true.....mmm. Much work to do. With nobody in, it's meant no real Weed & Feed these past two years, and as it's a young mans game, we're in danger of dying of old "football" age.......

I do. Next season will be great for both. Injuries set players back, but those lads had nothing that would prevent from return to form. That what summers are for.
Yes, no one gets younger, but youth is not a guarantee for success. Look at Juventus, they are really old.
We are still the best club in London, something Spurs were not for awhile. Other London clubs are in much further stage of decay.
Like it or not, Spurs are the small club with large stadium. We need to grow to compete. It will take time. And money.
Spurs will buy 4 to 6 players this summer. 3 out of those will make first XI eventually. The key to success is to pay more than 200K per week to team leaders, like the big clubs do. The recruitment will improve after that exponentially. So the wage structure is more important at this stage of growth.

Whoever spurs buy hopefully it is before preseason starts, as MP's philosophy is fitness based and all new signings will need a full preseason to be ready for the start of the Pl.

Sad news about Justin Edinburgh, 49.

Maybe not the best lb we've had but certainly 1 of the more iconic and unquestionable commitment.

Did a great job at Leyton.

    And a thoroughly Good Bloke.

With rumours about United still being interested in signing Dier, perhaps I've written him off too soon. I don't know who'd be getting the better deal though, because they took Chris McGrath and Alan Brazil off our hands back in the antediluvian days before the PL, and wasted their money on both. I like Dier, and I'd rather see him back to his 2016 form than sold, but everyone's got their price, so let's see if the rumours have any foundation. As for Alli, he seems to be the classic 'too much, too soon', following the path of Kieron Dyer, Tom Ince, David Bentley, even Jermaine Jenas, from boy wonder to wasted talent, and I'd very happily see him sold, if the alternative is an endless and ultimately futile wait for the old Alli to return - we've never seen the Roma version of Lamela, or the PSG Aurier, and giving players years of under-performing in the hope that they'll come good is one of the main reasons for our endless trophy drought, as Levy and Pochettino will realise eventually (I hope).

I see your point, Cheshuntboy, but it will not happen. No one in their right mind will waste money on new players just to please supporters. Both Dier and Alli will stay put.
I know you want to produce dominance, but the dominance on the pitch nowadays comes from financial dominance of the football club. So, as I said many times here the game is about money. Football is business and trophies only matter if p0unds are coming with them. Top 4 is the grater trophy than any domestic cup. UCL final in terms of money is less, yet COMPARABLE to the league title. From that stand point the season was a success.

Spending on established players is the most reliable way to improve the team, I don't argue that. But it is the most expensive compare to other ways: academy graduates, young talent with unproven qualities that needs development, unsettled players with contract issues. It was not as expensive years ago, but it is now. Levy will go second way, appropriate for small financially weak club Spurs are. That will bring a lot of garbage that MP will have to sort out. Like you say, we get a lots of Auriers and Nkudous as a result. That is a lot of work for him. That is why Poch might not want to buy anyone anymore for last two windows, as he got tired of all this work. But that is the only way for the Spurs to move forward under current ownership. Get the oil tycoon and things may change. Without money to burn there is no sense for supporters to get frustrated.

To just piggy off that Supporter, just like any business. You shouldn't really sell players when their stock is down while having years on their contract; Alli, Dier and a few more will fall in that category. A mass exodus isn't what's needed either, in my opinion.

These players had a short break last summer, most dealt with lots of injuries; it stands to reason that they'll improve and get their form back. Lamela's situation is a bit odd, but clearly he's a decent bench player and DL won't recuperate the fee he paid for him; so he'll probably stay as well.

Unfortunately, CE & Toby are on their way out. I hope the funds will be put back into getting a decent #10, Van De Beek, Maddison, or Brooks would all be good additions. Another key addition would be a winger who can play as a #9, for me Zaha fits that bill. From there with our young players returning, I'd really like to see how CCV has progressed. In all, I believe Jan and Sanchez can have a decent partnership in the back. I'd also love to see a swap deal of Wan-Bissaka and Aurier, he can be our starting RB & challenge Trips; Trips always gets better with competition.

Those additions and a few more promising prospects would constitute a decent summer for me. We'll see.

Jesus Christ this is exactly the sort of utter gutless, defeatist, 2nd best applauding, non aspiring low bar setting nonsense that our fan base oozes by the ocean load.

No wonder Levy is allowed to get away with this endless jam tomorrow charade.
1 LEAGUE CUP IN 19 YEARS IS THE WORST RETURN OF ANY OWNERSHIP IN OUR HISTORY.

Every single season being the same perpetual nearly men, nice try. Announce major profits , record sponsorship etc then spend nothing on the team.

I cannot believe that there are people who genuinely think a rest is all that's needed and that players of Lamelas complete flop of a career warrants more time.

Good God do you people have any sort of pride at all ?
    Have you ever played sport?
Have you ever competed and won anything?

The epitome of the mindset of a loser is to be thankful for just being involved and making a big deal out of things no one else would really care about or make a fuss over.

Not only does our squad need a major overhaul but this pathetic mind set of our fan base does aswell.

No pussy-footing for you, Felon! I completely agree that the endless excusing of sub-standard performances by so many of our players has made Spurs into a gigantic comfort blanket for the 'not-quite good enough' brigade that we've specialised in acquiring. I won't bother to list them - Lamela heads the list, obviously - but Levy's refusal to take a loss even on such duds as Janssen or Aurier hasn't helped, and the club has become a rest home for semi-retired so-called 'professional' footballers, some of whom are having to get by on barely two million pounds per year!
When players like Dier and Wanyama haven't had a good game for literally years, and Alli's good work for a whole season adds up to half-a-dozen good games (if that), it's hard to believe that a few weeks off will restore them to vim and vigour (especially when all three have spent as much time injured as playing), and it's faith, not reason, that makes so many fans continue to express confidence that it'll all come good in the end - we've fallen away sharply from 2017's peak, and I see nothing - yet - to suggest that next season will be better, though I'm very happy to be proved wrong, as usual.
