I would add an amendment to that - The Game has BECOME about Revenue. Thanks to SKY (who apparently invented football around 1992-3 or so - how did we ever live prior to that, without a game to watch/ play/ argue over ?) it's become a behemoth, for better or worse, because of money. I would also add that, strange as it may sound, some fans actually want and like to see their team win stuff; they don't go to stand (or sit) at a game and marvel at a full house and discuss how much is clocking up at the till. A goal flies in "Yay - another hundred grand into the bank" We get knocked out of a Cup - "Oh dear, think of the money we could have made going further" I'm unsure whether the hordes around the world who run about in SKY Four shirts are doing so because they're pleased that their clubs are rolling in it. Nope - it's because they've been successful over a number of years. Me ? I want my team to be the best. Yes, money definitely comes into it, is hugely important - what business can survive without it - certainly, but what for ? It's chicken & egg to be basic about it - to build and maintain a successful team you'll need money but to keep it flowing you'll need a team that matches in it's efforts. Witness all the teams struggling - little support, less money, no shiny stuff; it goes round and round. Simplistic maybe, but it's my take on it.

Exactly. That means that some supporters live in the past. There was nothing wrong with the past, but it is gone irreversible.
You need to buy the talent in players and also buy the talent in those who scout a potential acquisitions, the coaches, the managers, the club. The club must make money to sustain its spending or the owners have to contribute more.
The clubs that constantly demand money from the owners are hard to sell. ENIC will sell THFC when Spurs become a reliable moneymaker, like the other 5 of the top 6 of EPL. Only THEN Levy and Lewis and others will get their big wealth. They do not pocket very much now.
Trophies are also good for revenues, don't get me wrong. They allow to sell more merchandise, but the one sold out New Stadium is 3 million per game. Right there. That's where the money to buy 6 players per window, producing the 1 good, 2 serviceable and 3 busts, will be coming from. Top 4 is the biggest trophy in terms of revenue as it gets UCL money.

Spurporter if as you say the game is about Revenue then why is it that the other top 4 (barring Arse) all spend significantly in the quest for Silverware?
And shift players and Managers that don't win things?
Man City etc could sit around just sucking the income in if it's just about Revenue, the only 2 clubs doing that are us and scum and at least they used to win stuff and actually spend a bit.
Revenue helps but the Game is about Glory and it's only seen as a relic from the past because for some reason a huge part of our fan base want to shackle themselves to the ENIC model that produces higher consumer costs and puts less and less back in under the cloak 'we can't compete'
It's a complete cop out way of thinking.

Those so far are ahead of us in development. We will catch them and will by pass them eventually and win big, but it will take time and careful planning. The less money the owners are able to burn initially, the slower the pace will become. Your desire to have Sugar Daddy as an owner, like ManCity got, is understood, cause it is the way to accelerate the process, although even for Mansur and Co. things didn't turn up well momentarily.
    You need to have:
    1) Large base of supporters in England and worldwide
    2) Club youth system, able of producing world class players
    3) Moneymaking stadium and TV subscriptions worldwide
    4) World class manager
    5) World class players
    6) Excellent Director of Football and scouts

Spurs are lagging behind the best English clubs so far. All of 5 them. We are good with No 1 and 2 on the list. The rest is either questionable or just absent. Number 4 and number 5 on the list cannot be simply purchased. It must be a result of other numbers being good. So Spurs are overachievers. As such its supporters must enjoy what they got. Once the number 3 on the list is finally put to bed, the future will start looking much brighter.
