Moving Onwards

Yes they do Felon - just as I feared yesterday. Where were Wonderboys Salah, Mane and Firmino when we needed them ? But the real damage is to come this week when we fail to take max points from Newcastle & Leicester and the Chavs skate by Huddersfield & Southampton. Leicester have been dire recently, hope it continues, but they've nothing to lose here, we have. Newcastle are their usual selves, middle of the road and no threat to anyone but have tipped our cart before - remember Tim Krul a few seasons back at The Lane when he stopped everything one way or another. A win and a draw would do us - due to goal difference but I call two draws; just a dread feeling that I can't shift. And if by some chance - owing to recent performances - we do get the required 4 points, then how crucial was that win against said Chavs a while back. Poch has some serious work to do (again) and we must hope it works this time or the shiny new Levydome isn't going to see a full house for a while.

As always I look to the past for hope where Spurs are concerned (I don't like the present, and dread the future!), and this time the tardis has taken me back to 1978, when we were trying to get back to the old Division One, but had managed to blow a nailed-on promotion place, and were fighting it out with Alan Mullery's Brighton for the final spot. Two games left, the penultimate being at home to Hull, who were already relegated, and were expected to roll over meekly, instead of which they lived up to their nickname, and fought like tigers. We had thirty (yes THIRTY!) corners but still only managed one goal, and that was a clear foul on their keeper, but the ref kindly allowed it and we stole the points. Final game away to already promoted Southampton, and we got the draw that allowed us to pip Brighton on goal difference (or was it average in those days?), courtesy of the old pals' act between Burkinshaw and McMennemy. It certainly wasn't glorious, but we got there in the end.
More of the same grit (and luck) is needed forty years on, but there's no Perryman to drive on the team in 2018, so please Pochettino, try to be a manager rather than a spectator, just for a change, and we might get over the line this time as well!

 

Spurs oh spurs why do you put us through this every ****ing season? Wba away and yes it was a difficult task with the Baggies desperate for Premiership survival but i foolishly thought we had enough in this team to grind out all 3 points. As it happens, the last gasp winner from ex Spur Livermore may well be academic in the short term but credit to them yesterday, they wanted it more than us and Ben foster had an amazing afternoon (he always does against us for some reason). Out of sorts Geordie boys wed followed by struggling Leicester and if the past is anything to go by, then i dont expect it to be easy at all. At least Kane still knows where the goal is having tested his own keepers agility lol. Im not quite exasperated just yet but got a feeling i will be a week from now!

 

I thought we bounced back well from the Juve disappointment Baz.. 4 straight away wins

And in hindsight that made sense.. given how well we played against one of Europe's elite

The real gut punch was the City hammering.. the damage further exacerbated by an indifferent attitude to the FA Cup.. culminating in the inexpilcable decision to play our second string goalkeeper.. a player who not only was at fault for the decisive goal in an even match.. but one who will most likely not even be at the club next year

Let it also be noted that the malaise has coincided with the premature return of a subpar Kane.. who irrespective of any fitness concerns has been battling a wave of negative press.. ultimately of his own doing

Armageddon.. at least metaphorically.. is an apt description for what will ensue should we somehow contrive to achieve what may well be the greatest bottling job in club history

I think the manager will walk.. and a tide of turmoil will follow in his wake.. this is a watershed moment

That said I remain optimistic.. we could not have two better opponents to play at this stage of the season.. as this group have unfinished business with both Newcastle and to a lesser extent Leicester

First things first..

The humiliation at St James' two seasons ago has not been forgotten.. conceding 3 unanswered against 10 men.. versus a relegated side at that.. is something only the football gods could conjure up

If we are to be cursed again then so be it.. but I don't want to see any nerves come Wednesday

I want to see us fearlessly go 100mph from the opening whistle to the last against what is an inferior team

If fate decides that is not enough to get a result then whatever.. any bottling now however will not be accepted

 

Couldn't agree more Jam...I'd forgotten about the four straight wins, it's funny how your mind does that.

There is a lack of confidence in the side, or rather we are lacklustre at the moment.

An early goal will ease our nerves and the players. I'd find a place for Moura in the starters, leaving Lamela as far away as possible. Trouble is Poch loves him.

I'll have some nerves, for sure......COYS.

 

Dare I mention 71yid that were we to lose and Chelski win, it's out of our hands............you couldn't make it up.....

 

Wow that's a trip down memory lane that I'd banished to the back of my mind Cheshuntboy.....there will be 60,000 very nervous Yids on Wednesday, as far Sunday, who knows.....
