As a self confessed pessimist, I understand why Spurs fans are upset tonight. We never like losing, let alone to West Ham, but some of the comments on social media tonight are ridiculous, embarrassing and sad to read.

If you read my article last night , you will know I talked about a need for calm ahead of tonight's game. The reason I said that was because even if Arsenal had won, which they didn't, Spurs would still be in a strong position to win this seasons Premier league title. And after tonight they still are.

Spurs were poor tonight. There is no need to hide that fact but West Ham did a job on Spurs. They got in the players faces, pressed all over the pitch and Spurs just never got going. We gave the ball away, never created chances and were second best all over the pitch. Wimmer was lucky to stay on after a couple of naive challenges and Trippier and Davies both had average games. Lamela was erratic at best and West Ham forced Kane out of the game. When Kane did get the ball he was out wide and simply couldn't affect the game in our favour.

Alli came on but was clearly not fit. He pulled out of a couple of challenges and I think Poch will be relieved he came away unscathed.

The big miss was Dembele. How we could have done with his strength tonight. We looked lightweight at times and that is not something we can say about Spurs often this season.

But for people to say we have blown it, bottled it is absolute nonsense. How many of us really expected that we would be in the title race this season? Not too many had us down for a top 4 finish.

I'm as disappointed as anyone but we are still very much on course for our first title in 55 years.

Keep the faith and dare to do.

    Great article!
yes it's a blow, yes a win would have put us in a great position but we are still close in on Leicester and have a advantage over the Woolwich Nomads.
The weekends NLD is going to be huge! a Win can really put the boot in, a loss, if i dare to mention it would not be a total wreak but would mean Poch would need to lift the squad, i am confident he is the man that will lead this club to greatness.

We were piss poor tonight, I have said it numerous times Chadli Eriksen and Lamela cannot play together at the same time for the system to work, especially a game like this when it is all about getting stuck in.
Thought the team selection was poor from Poch and I am worried that Kane is off the boil and looking leggy.
Sham deserved the win, they wanted it more and had a better game plan. I don't know what we were trying to do tonight but it wasn't win or score goals that's for sure.
Fortunately none of our rivals capitalised either so we're neither better or worse off in general. Must smash Scum now tho no excuses!

Totally agree. I am always steaming when we lose and especially when it is to the Spammers. We didn't turn up, simple as that. Mousa needed PDQ! Anyhow, I am slowly calming down :)

However, some perspective needed 2nite. This is only our second defeat away from home in the PL this season - not bad at all. Furthermore, Woolwich and Citeh lost and the Foxes only managed a draw to the baggies.

With all that said, we must not lose Saturday - absolutely not. That lot will be well up for it and to lose another PL match in a row will be unthinkable for them.

God I would love it if we do a number on them the wkd, LOVE IT (Keegan accent btw)!

Okay, fair play to WH, haven't lost at home since August, did a real job on us today. We didn't turn up.

Positives are no points lost on teams around us.

Also, Cech and Koscielny - best two arsenal players imo - out of Saturday. Now is the time to bury Arsenal's chances of the title whilst going top ourselves. Yids.

Cech and Koscielny out - well it all helps. Hopefully Sanchez can tweak a hamstring in training too. Just seen Cech's howler for the Swans winner, shame he won't be playing!

I just hope we can start with Alli and Mousa...

If Mousa and Alli are fit, I'd actually back us to win. I'm not sure how many times I've done that against the Arse, however! I'm very worried now actually about the fitness of the squad - everyone's 100% when you're winning, but lose and there's a risk that players become isolated in games. Kane needs time off - I see no issue with giving him tomorrow and Friday off completely, coming back on Saturday raring to go. I trust Poch to make the right call - and let's face it, if we beat the Arse on Saturday, tonight doesn't matter. It just simply doesn't. The glory days of beating City twice, rescuing wins and just Alderweireld's hair alone gets you through these nights.

A missed opportunity i feel to go top, WH were in total control of the game and we couldn't muster a clear cut chance apart from Kanes miss kick after Tobys shot that's how bad we were! we didn't turn up! didn't compete or close down, were we tired? a must win game against Woowich now Coys!

Although disappointed of course to lose today, I knew this would be very difficult especially without Dembele. Against some softer teams and on a larger pitch some of our flashy, and average players, have enough time and space to perform. A comment was made earlier by someone which really caught my eye. I have always said that our chances of winning when start Chadli, Eriksen and Lamela are poor. This is not even to say that they are all bad players, but merely that the combination has been awful. In the last three seasons against the better clubs or physical games the abscence of the Moose has been very evident. I am not saying he would have scored two goals or delivered the killer pass but when he plays, he enables are creative guys to do what they do best. I really hope he can play Saturday we are way better with him. I said it before and hate making this comment again but it is a fact. 4 Losses this year. 1st game of the year against Man United Dembele played but was on the wing but anyways tough loss. Newcastle we had our worst loss of the year. Dembele hurt. Leicester game he was just recovering from injury and came on later in the second half.Loss. Crystal Palace game had to come off at half with groin. Loss. West Ham game Hurt. Loss. This year has been great and we have the most comitted team I have seen ina long time. I just want us to really give it a go and we are better with the Mosse than without. If he cannot play than I would play Ali with Dier in the middle. We cannot have Eriksen in there or Mason. Not injured Kane would have scored on the chance he had and the conversation could be different now. So here we go... No replacement striker.
Bilic keeps beating Poch. Last year in EL and now. Very disappointed I am; it would be okay to lose playing well, but we was not, as everyone points out here.
Now, pick yourself up, lads. If Swans could beat them, you can do as well. COYS!!!!!

Good article. Totally agree not a disaster. Bad night at that office but bouncing back is the mentality we have.

We were lucky that arsenal and city lost but I think at this stage we are probably best being the hunters rather than being hunted for top spot. Less pressure I think.

I believe in this team. Supporters need to keep our heads and remember we could be the 12 man when it comes to the crunch.

Had all the signs of just one game to far in a draining schedule .. In fairness it had to happen at some stage and your just hoping you can scrape a result by hook or by crook when the day comes but it wasn't to be .. On another day we could have scraped an old 0-0 or a 1-1 but we wouldn't really have deserved it ... Their goal was a comedy of errors from our point of view , there was a number of mistakes including Lloris ( sacrilege to say anything negative about our keeper on any forum ) but it was an error and he should have kept it out , also Harry really should have scored but that's the way it goes sometimes ... A lot of commentators have been predicting a drop off from us ( not in a so called typical Spursy way ) but because of the demands of the way we play and it certainly had that look about it last night so it's going to tell a lot how we bounce back from this defeat .. In terms of where it leaves us , well nothing has really changed , opportunity missed for sure but no real damage done but another week or 2 like this from the top 4 and we,ll all be looking behind us as well as looking up .. Leicester looked the strongest in this round of games , they were a bit unlucky but the other two , they look in disarray at the moment and must be wondering how they're still in it .. What a huge game Sat is now for both sides for all sorts of reasons , and that's just a few days before we fly out to Dortmund .. What am emotional rollercoaster of a season it's been so far and I hope there's plenty of life in it yet ..

Tbh id rather we were just behind Leicester putting on pressure than constantly looking over our shoulder.
However the performance last night was dreadful Matt despite all the optimism, we were extremely lucky that Scum or city didn't gain points on us.
Lets put this defeat behind us and defeat Woolwich

Last night was always going to be difficult without the hectic schedule and absence of Moussa. No need to panic with our rivals both losing last night we have not lost any ground over last 2 matches and are better off against the Arse and Leicester. Only mute point is how are Utd anywhere near us. The most important thing is to win Saturday and completely derail Gooners and then I would look to give Harry a break and not even take him to Dortmund and possibly a couple of others Eriksen and Dier. Our priority has to be going for title or finish top 3 to avoid qualifying matches for champions league.

    Well said Matt.
18 points from our last 7 games - disgusting!
We have proved that we cannot play airball on a farmer's potato patch, but did we ever want to.
Onward and upward - let Leicester have all the pressure and a smart overtaking move just to break their hearts at the end.

I think it was clear that to the end of the season all top4 teams will drop points. ....but for them all to do it at the same day (okay 2 days) is very odd.
Leicester must have thought they'd dropped 2 points with a 1 point draw. .....then the next day....really they actually got 1 point win.
    brilliant for the neutral

only watched the game on MoTD.....but agree with what's been said....we didn't turn up.
I've never liked Chadli, Eriksen and lamella as the 3....as they don't win the ball back enough. and they are a bit soft. ...unthinkable when you are going to a place where you need more fight than anything else

anyway....onwards....and for me we have to have Dembele and Alli against the Arse
hell of a game this will be....both sides needing a win.

lets beat the Arse....go top....and then see what Leicester can do away at Watford.
....it could be in Gomes's hands. ......unless he was playing for us in which case it probably wouldn't be

It's the beginning of the end. The one game that we can't lose, we lost. Poch got it completely wrong, the players showed no passion against our true rivals for position in the league... We will lose on Saturday and finish 6th. Terrible to miss such an opportunity to almost gaurentee CL football. Another season we will miss out, Poch will go to United and players like Lloris, Toby and Kane will go. CL is where they all want to play. Last night will live long in the memory as the defining moment in Poch's reign, and it was a disaster!

    Thoughts......

    - Sometimes we are going to lose.
    - Tonight was always going to be difficult
    - With one shot on goal, winning or drawing is unlikely
    - Saturday seems an order of magnitude more import than the Leicester game - somehow it feels more than a 6 pointer

For sure we didn't turn up, saving our worst performance of the season to the one game for half of a century we had a chance to lead the top flight. Bum.

Watched Chugger Chadli give away the corner, then lose Antonio.....so painful.

It is true that this isn't the end of the world. Losing on Saturday would certainly feel like Armageddon.

Deep breaths lads, rise to the occasion against the Woolwich and send us all into orbit,

Wind ya necks in chaps!! With 11 games to go we were always gonna lose one minimum. The west ham on paper perhaps the toughest fixture so to lose and not really be punished is a plus. We were not lucky that city and arsenal lost as like us they didn't perform well enough. Yes Kane looks tired. Yes playing chadli and lamela at the same time didn't really work out given they both do better off the bench but we don't know how fit alli was to start and Son when came on continued to flatter to deceive. If we win Saturday which was always a bigger fixture and villa Bournemouth to follow I believe we will be top of the league at that point. Leicester have west ham to play and some tough away days ie Sunderland. City play the goons also. Onwards!!
