My problem with your post is that football is a business, and you expect Lewis to be a "sugar daddy". Chelsea are £1 billion in debt to to Abramovitch, If he were arrested by Putin in Moscow tomorrow, and that debt was called in Chelsea would drop faster than Leeds United wearing lead boots. As far as Enic's interests are concerned, you need to take a practical look at this. Until the recent TV deal we have spent the last ten years bouncing along on profits/losses in the region of £5 million pa. I would doubt if you amalgamated all the P&L for the that period if we made £20 mill. At the time we were quoted on the LSE, we were valued at £130 million. If you went to your bank manager tomorrow and told him that you wanted to spend £130 mill on a business that averages less than £2mill pa in profits, he would think you are crazy. But why shouldn't ENIC make a profit. Football is the only business I know where many customers don't believe that the business owner should be able to make a profit. I know several people who spend over £100 per week in the pub. Even if the landlord were a compulsive gambling drug fiend with a taste for prostitutes, I don't think any of my friends would be concerned that he was making a profit.
