That’s a matter of perspective though….loaning players out for development can help but often hinder, sespecially young players. The chance to be part of and train with the first team is often why they chose to sign for us in the first place. For every loan out such as Kane and Skipp, there are 5 Carter-Vickers. I’m also pretty confident that MP didn’t cancel anything, he just chose
Not to loan out players that he deemed to be good enough to be part of the squad. We probably could have done with that this year as not having Skipp available for example when our MF clearly needed something, actually hurt us.

How do you learn that players who show great potential are not actually good enough though? You need to play them…Winks is a championship player but for some reason he is still here and still being selected. That’s not the fault of MP, JM or RM, that is due to the fact we don’t have many other options. We should have loaned out/sold Winks and kept Skipp

You are absolutely right about Juventus. It’s strange that we seem to still be bouncing around names with no clear talks with a standout candidate but what if, we are….what if, the press don’t actually have a clue who we are talking to. Seems a bit more likely to me…given that it’s a pretty important next move for Levy, it’s not really surprising that we haven’t immediately announced anyone and as the days go by, that’s working in our favour as more quality names are becoming available.

Let’s not start with your coaching thing again…Liverpool signed a CB because they need a CB. The one they signed as cover last year on loan wasn’t good enough. Nothing to do with coaching. Liverpool have been able to sign players early because they have Klopp and know they will still have him next season.

You make reference on multiple occasions about the fan base only willing to accept big decisions…Is that because JM was cack? JM is gone, let it go…It’s a bit hard to speculate about new signings (even though we need them) until the new manager is announced. When that happens we can then get a clearer used as to who we might actually be looking at buying to improve the squad.

Our highest, consistent, league positioning in modern memory & a Champions League final appearance….all with the net spend of a bottom 3 side

I don’t think pointing out that Mason and Winks were given regular first team opportunities is championing them. Funny how both made the England squad at the same time somehow

100% true….Harry did a good job but pretty sure his abilities did not extend to turning Bale in a world class player by choice….there was a touch of luck and desperation that helped that.

The fact is though Harry is in exactly the same boat as managers like JM. Premier League football has changed and they haven’t….hence why we couldn’t have Harry back and should never have hired JM in the first place. I hope JM does well at Rome, that league is far more suited to his style and he seemed to come across as a decent bloke on the documentary

Thfc I said what did Pochetino win not what did he bottle like the final and letting Leicester win the league with far inferior players to us.I agree we had some good times but failed when it came to the big games like Paris have found out this year finishing second for the first time in years and not making the final of the champions league..I will give him the french cup

There was a running joke that Bentaleb was Sherwood's son & both Mason and Bentaleb were permanent fixtures under Tim because he dropped the likes of Paulinho because in his words he wanted players he could trust who were those 2 and they played half a season together before Pochettino joined.

    Debunked indeed

Players sign with clubs that can help them in their career. The loan-program helps them in getting the best possible chances for a career, the cancellation of the loan-program is why Spurs is now behind other elite-clubs when it comes to youth. Spurs, with Pochettino in charge, did not provide a way to maximise the chances for the players so players went with other clubs who provided better options.

Even the example of Carter-Vickers that you provided is a good example of that, thanks to the loan-program he got first-team minutes and now it looks likely he'll get a good contract and Spurs can make money on selling him. Win-win for the player and for Spurs, would not have happened unless the loan-program had been restarted.

  10. Mason made his Premier League bow September 2014 against Arsenal

He didn’t play a single game under Sherwood

    Let the record show...

The boy who cries wolf is the most delusional of them all... living in a perpetual fantasyland with the fellow who liked his post

  11. He championed them because 1) they were academy and 2) they were effort players

He was aware there were more gifted players at the club... hence why Mason was sold

For the last time... I didn’t agree with it

I’d play a lazy genius over a skill-less blowhard every day of the week

But we have never stopped loaning players out/cancelled our loan program?

    15/16 - 14
    16/17 - 12
    17/18 - 12
    18/19 - 10
    19/20 - 17
    20/21 - 18

It’s quality, not quantity and we keep our young players so we can play them in youth matches and monitor their progress. We are willing to send them if it works for both parties though?

I’m not sure on the stats but there are not many sides who have had huge success by loaning out players that I can think of?

Im not knocking what you are saying by the way as I do agree that something is wrong with how we are developing but I don’t relate that issue to Pochettino.

It’s a crack a manager who took over a club in January and it’s now May? To win a couple of cups is ok but at least PSG are decent to watch, their players seem happier playing under him and I reckon if he stays, they will improve next season

Maybe Chelsea can be said to have developed some great successes through their loan-system? There are more than a few good to great players that came through their system.
Chelsea might not have been the one who benefited the most - the players and other clubs might have benefitted more. I'd guess that their strategy has paid for itself and more.

Your numbers match what was in the article. Spurs under Pochettino loaned out players until they reached a certain level - championship, lower level EPL - and then Pochettino kept the players around the first team with some odd minutes of playing time here and there. Development appears to have stalled for them.
No system is perfect, as is then I'd say that the loan-system where young players close to the first team are tested regularly by playing first team football is the best one. Using the loan-system then players are forced to mature in a tougher less molly-coddled environment, the players who do well in training are tested to see if they can perform under pressure. If players in the Championship are good enough to be bought then the Championship is good enough to test young players.

As an example: Looking at the RB-situation at Spurs:
KWP was under Poch last 12 months barely getting minutes but still kept. Then he went on loan under Mourinho and got regular starts. It is impossible to know if a loan under Pochettino would have improved him enough to get regular minutes at Spurs but at the very least he was a bit of a forgotten man at Spurs for a year. Maybe a loan would have made him good enough to challenge Aurier for starting at Spurs? Again, impossible to know.
Foyth didn't impress me much when he played the few times he played for Spurs, he took risks in the wrong areas of the pitch. Now he has played more, even played and won an EL-final. Would he have developed more at Spurs? Is his selling price higher now? (might be an option to buy on him but still)

Young talent have options, Spurs under Pochettino did not offer the best possible path towards a good footballing career and that is at least part of the reason why Spurs couldn't compete for signing young talent.
The lack of talent coming through now is due to the situation at Spurs 2-5 years ago when young talents went to other clubs where they were more likely to start a good footballing career.

The Pochettinon way of keeping players at the club instead of loaning them to get them first-team starts has been tried and tested at Spurs. We see the results of that now. Judging by the results then it looks like it was and is a bad way of recruiting and developing young players.

As I've said already Chelsea have 1 of the best squads in Europe, it was backed heavily in the summer aswell.
The club & team is set up to succeed.

If he's so great why did he lose to Leicester in the FACup?
Need us to give him a leg up into top4?
    Hasn't improved Werner?

But yes winning the CL is still an achievement, I think Peps ridiculous team selection handed them the win more than anything though.

I certainly don't understand why so interested in championing the Chelsea manager though it's not like he's dragged an awful side up and worked a miracle is it?

I agree that Pep didn’t help himself but there can be no doubt at all that Lampard would not have got Chelsea to this point.

I am not championing Tuchel, I am championing the positive impact that Abramovich seems to have when being ruthless with managers that either don’t improve the squad or results.

Yes they have spent money but the change inspired the improvement and that’s a fact that has been hammered home in the Champions League final.

Hopefully, we can see an improvement with our next selection because the last one was a massive fail
