    French national team to begin...

Sissoko is employed as a double pivot for Spurs... are you aware of that? are you aware at all of the positional responsibilities of the two defensive midfielders in a 4231 formation? indeed are you aware of the tactical nuance (or lack of) with our current style of play? it certainly doesn't appear that way

Haha okay... this is your defence? an article concerning a performance in a friendly match?

You asked a question and now have a definitive answer. Sissoko has been capped 65 times for arguably the best footballing nation of this millennium. Perhaps you should ask yourself why before wasting anymore bandwidth.

Why he has been capped? He was once better, now he has aged and is simply not very good. In the Euro 2016 then he was very good but that is a long time ago. Yep, it was a waste to reply to you.

Sissoko is the same... still a physical beast and to be certain if there's one thing that players never lose as they age it is technique. Simply put he is being deployed at Spurs in a different way.

Sissoko started France's last competitive fixture... you can stand corrected.

Yep he played since, but before that he was dropped in the match that actually mattered and in a match where they'd already won the group then he was selected again. Never made it to the World Cup squad in 2018. Strange to see a manager opting for a 31 year old in matches meaning nothing instead of trying a youngster. But sure, he played and no manager has ever played favourites either.

Which of Sissoko's technical abilities are you most impressed by?

I think that has been made clear on several occasions? Defensive covering, ball running and simple passing are a few...clearly you don’t like him and have shown in some of your responses that your selection of potential replacements from within our squad are those that have either been tried and failed miserably or wouldn’t work without completely changing the formation (which makes no sense now we have a formation that works reasonably well for JMs style).

No one is saying he is as good as Kante but we are saying that based on our formation and performances he is seriously under appreciated by some of our own fans which is really poor form given the job he does for us.

The fact you rate Aurier so highly shows that you are watching something different to a lot of others (I am being polite here as Aurier is absolutely terrible)...to then pick out Sissoko and not understand his role in the team just cements that fact.

If we sign Basouma or Ndidi, I’ll be all for dropping him into the squad but until then we should really focus on trying to find a RB that can actually defend, a CM with some energy and the ability to pick a pass forward and a CB to replace Dier as a priority.

Just to go back to the stats you often are referring to, you mentioned previously, there are a few things that you have stated but failed to acknowledge are incorrect?

He always gives the ball away, despite in fact he does so less than all other DF and MF in our squad. Turnover to the opposition deapite his long ball success rate being better than most. Always passing backwards forcing CB’s to play long balls missing our MF however he actually passes forwards and sideways more often (usually sideways after carrying the ball forwards 20 or 30 yards).

I’m not exactly sure why Dier thinks he can pass 60 yards like Toby but he can’t and that has nothing to do with Sissoko. I’m also not sure why we push both Aurier and Regy so high up when it obvious that only Regy gets back to defend but again don’t think you can blame Sissoko for that.

Maybe watch him against Wolves to see how he covers space across the back 4 (pendulum style) to allow others to move out of position yet somehow manages to also pop up on the edge of the opposition box on occasion too. Then look as who is covering our fullbacks the minute our attacks break down and holding up opponents long enough to allow our defenders to get back into shape. It may help you to realise the importance of what he does do for others to be able to play in our formation. As has been acknowledged, there are probably 6 or 7 players in other teams that could do that job just as well and could do more with the ball in an attacking sense but we don’t have them and the job he does is good enough at the moment to push a replacement to 4th in our priority list IMO.

Well, those things you mentioned are things I don't see as evidence of technical ability. Defensive covering might be more of tactical nous, the ball running he does often is into dead ends, 'simple' passing is not really stating anything more than that he can do something 'simple'. But ok, which of those is his most impressive technical ability?

Possibly 'Jose's ghost' wants to weigh in' as he was the poster who implied that Sissoko has good technique?
Preferrably without using what appears to be his standard: https://www.logicallyfallacious.com/logicalfallacies/Appeal-to-Authority

& for a DM/CM then my argument was and is that he's not on the ball enough. He's got half the number of touches of the ball compared with Hojbjerg. Why is that?
Is Sissoko making himself available to receive the ball and players around him keep chosing other options or is Sissoko not making himself available so the passing has to go over him?

You think Aurier is terrible and you appear to think that anyone not agreeing with your opinion does not understand football? I suppose some insecure person would change his/her mind upon hearing such an argument.... Seems like an Emperors new clothes argument :)
Is it at all possible that your opinion is just one opinion? Or would you say that anyone and everyone believing him to be good does not understand football?

I have not ever said my opinion is the only opinion and have on multiple times in this discussion agreed with some of the things you have seen to be trying to say. The problem is that a lot of what you say seems to indicate that you have never played football at any kind of decent standard before. It’s the things off the ball he does that have an impact on the game and on other players. And yes, simple passing following a 20 yard run is effective as it takes us from our half to theirs. He does his job more effectively than anyone else in the team so he deserves to start.

Also, if you have eyes, you should be able to see that Aurier is cack...if you think he is good then I fear your expectations are pretty low.

Jose’s ghost and anyone else should feel free to “weigh in” as that is the whole point of the site...if by continually copying and pasting links no further comment should be made then it is in fact you that seems to be blinded by your own opinion

Given the overwhelming evidence this certainly appears to be the case.

You've hit the nail well and truly on the head here so I would think nothing further needs be said.

For argument's sake though I would contest your appraisal of Aurier. The lad clearly has qualities... particularly in the final third... the caveat to that being the intermittent (sometimes egregious) defensive errors. As was proven in Paris, his temperament is suspect but on his day he is still higher end.

The question then is do you live with that defensive uncertainty for his offensive potential or would you prefer Doherty who has yet to have shown much in either direction at Spurs playing in a back four?

Strange how Thfc and Jose’s ghost decry opinion of Jesper because they suspect he has not played football at a good level. Can i point out that Arsenal Wenger Gerald Houlier and our own Jose never played at a decent level but they obviously have opinions as they managed at the top level

is that Sanchez in between Davies and Dier as 3 at the back!? (with Tanganga, Toby and Rodon on the bench)
....... Lloris must have been in fine form in training the last few days.

..... and with Doherty and Reggie as wing backs?

al I can think is that Sanchez and Winks are 'in the transfer window'

If you don’t try to win, then you don’t deserve to. We were shite, or worse.

We deserved nothing other than to lose another 2 points against a team that plays good attacking football (insteadof us...). Mourinho tires me. Week after week it's boring. Always the same defensive tacticien. Bringing out our best offensive player (ndombele) is synonymous with his poor old fashion tactical management! And I won't mention leaving winks on the field the whole game is lire a serious professional mistake !

I have supported Mourino because results improved but after to night I can no longer go with this dross we are playing.West brom were better to watch against Liverpool. We have dropped more points in the last ten minutes than any other club in the league. We sit back with no pretension to go forward and lose out on every 50- 50 balls. We have one of the best strike duos in world football and we use them as midfielders.I want to see Kane as a centre forward not trying to beDavidSilva.2points out of the last twelve and if it was not for the shortcomings of the rest of the league we would be in bottom half of league.I said against Liverpool we should have Rondon on at the end to defend corners and the same tonight.Winks was waving his arms at everybody at the corner and then stood and watched while they scored. But to sum up if I did not support spurs there would be no way I would watch that tedious rubbish.we will not win anything playing this wayWolves should have scored in the last minute so it could have been worse.
