Can’t believe the rose coloured comments from the arch pessimist Felon.I have agreed over the past 2 years with many of his comments especially about Pochetino but to say that our current league position means we have suddenly become very good is misleading to say the least. We have played one team in top half and lost that and our goal difference was boosted by the freak united game.Last night we were outplayed in football terms by Brighton who luckily don’t have a striker of any note and we have given away winning positions in two games already

Being the miserable git that I am, I can't help thinking about the first half of the 2018/19 season, when the cracks were beginning to show under Pochettino, but we were still getting results, and were within a couple of points of City and Liverpool early in the New Year. There was much talk about 'winning ugly' being the sign of a good team, but sometimes it can just be the sign of winging it (or being downright lucky), and the reality that we were running on empty was all too evident when the season ended with the CL Final embarrassment in Madrid.
I'm not suggesting that we're in the same position now under Mourinho, but there's no law that says players or teams HAVE to improve; our history is littered with promising teams that achieved nothing, or players who were world-beaters at 20 and nowhere at 25, and I'd just like to see consistently good performances and results before declaring the end of 'spursiness', and the imminence of silverware - I blame fifty years of false dawns for my cynicism, but I'd probably be the same whoever I supported.

There is one thing that could be said...the Chelsea, Inter Milan and Man Utd teams that Jose won lots of trophies with, all were pretty terrible to watch.
With any luck, if we continue to put in poor performances but pick up points, we might just win something this year.

You can’t be serious Thfc that Chelsea under Mourino were boring.Maybe the second time around but I remember the first team with 2 brilliant wingers Robben and duff with Lampard terry makelelee. Drogba Johnson joe Cole etc .I hate to say it but they were good to watch.Unfortunately we don’t have that quality in our squad so Mourino has to adjust to what he has.

It's hardly rose coloured it's factual look at the league table.
People are saying we are negative and park the bus but the results tell a different story.
No one in the league is playing well so why all the doom when we are getting results?
It's a new team and it takes time to get into a flow people are totally unrealistic about what they want.
There's not a single team that's playing champagne football and tonking teams so why is that the marker being expected of JM ?

Perhaps we remember 2004/2005 differently? I remember them having the best defensive record with the best defensive midfield and consistently winning games by low margins. The best players they had were defensive (in addition to Drogba & Lampard) and they used Drogba to create for Lampard with the long ball.
I didn’t say they weren’t good because they were but I don’t agree they were good to watch because they weren’t, they impressively effective.

Felon my point is that we have not played the big boys yet and we are being out passed by much inferior teams.I want to watch us taking. Games to the opposition ands not sitting back all the time

You play what's in front of you , what would you prefer we'd scored less and conceded more but been more entertaining?
I spose our previous records against the big boys was so good that we beat them all every time we played them ....
so that's the level expected to be met in the next 6 or so games?
We thumped Utd who scum could only eek a 0-1 over , our B team drew n then beat Chavs on pens earlier this season , we usually turn up v City and they look poor.
We're 3rd , highest scorers best defence of the top 4 (so far) with some big games on the horizon don't really see what the crying is about.
If not for a a few dodgy decisions and some sloppy individual errors we'd be in an even better position.
The doom mongering is off the scale

Nearly 50% of those goals came in 25% of their games...so 75% of the season was based on not conceding (which included 1028 minutes with clean sheets) and low scoring wins.

I didn't say they were boring nor did I say they didn't score a lot of goals but very often they were not great to watch but were winners who did not concede goals.

As for Terry, Drogba, Robben, Joe Cole, Lampard, Makalele, Johnson...I disagree with the quality of all except Terry, Makalele and Lampard.

Drogba, Robben and Cole - Son, Kane and Bale.
    Johnson - Regy
We don't have a CB like Terry and we dont have an CAM like Lampard although Ndombele is getting better each week. PEH is not to Makaleles standard but is decent so I don’t think we are that different to that side.

If we keep playing as we are with the odd big thumping results and regular scraped wins we might just provide a surprise this season.

I said before the league started that we had a decent opening 8 games that would hopefully see us in the top4
Lets see if we are still in the top4 after the next 8

If we are I would say progress has certainly been made.
.....and we are in a results business and not an attractive football business

Jose saves the entertainment for the pre and post match pressers... that has always been the case. With the exception of Madrid (which has always been akin to playing with a loaded deck) none of his sides have ever cracked the 80 goal mark. Anyone expecting us to start consistently playing free flowing attractive football at some point is kidding themselves. The general remit is simple... stand off... defend deep... hit them quickly on the break. If you're defensively stout and well organised it is a very effective method (Greece won the Euros doing as much). But no it is not exciting... and Jose couldn't care less. If we win the league then perhaps I won't either.

Everyone wants to see entertaining football, but I ask who currently plays that style consistently and wins every game 3-0?
    No1 is the answer.

For a short period under Poch 15-17 we played a high pressing game but that fell off dramatically over the following 2 n a bit seasons to where we ended up needing 50 passes in our own half just to get to the half way line before we'd make a mistake and put ourselves immediately under pressure.
I'm not dreaming this happened consistently and we became more and more error prone, predictable, slow and boring.
People are stuck in 2015-17 and seem to have slipped the denial blinkers on of how poor we had got literally because of a flukey run to the CL final but the writing was on the wall it was going down hill rapidly.
Poch wanted out, players wanted out the scorelines were becoming embarrassing, we couldn't buy an away win for a whole calendar year, the 3-0 loss to Brighton & 2-7 Bayern were more than enough to show it had ran its course.

People don't seem to take into account how stale that team had become, how many internal issues were happening, there weren't just cracks there were chasms within that team, confidence shattered, players pissed off it was an incredibly big rebuild that needed to take place.

What JM has picked up and worked with to try rebuild and go again has been admirable imo a lesser Manager would've been swallowed up and spat out.
He sort about the bad attitudes CE & Rose, he's pragmatically gone into the transfer window to work within a budget and restocked positions that had been badly neglected by Poch & Levy Dithering. Also without JM Bale doesn't return.
Last year lost both Son & Kane for a long spell and had all the anti JM ex Chelsea Poch worshippers on his back but still qualified for Europe wasn't too far off a top 4 spot in the end.
We don't have xavi & iniesta in the CM to dictate the ball we have Winks & Sissoko, we dont have Terry & Ramos at CB we have Toby & Dier/Sanchez, we do have an exciting pacey forward line that is capable of scoring on the break and as teams tend to these days pass just for the sake of passing it's an effective tactic, how many times have we bossed possession in the past only to draw or lose?

It's not been the easiest on the eye but neither was AVBs football, Tim's was a circus, Arrys was good but had its flaws, Poch had a couple of early seasons.

Whatever the benchmark is people are longing for need to understand that takes time and the right players till then you work with what you've got and do the best you can.

Which statistically hasn't overall been bad at all.

..... you did well Felon..... but then you brought Poch into it.
    Let it go.

One of the best things JM has done is get DL on his side.
without that we don't make the signings we have made.... and we probably don't make the progress we all want to see.
    slowly slowly......

Every word true, but it's still immensely frustrating that we seem to be a team that's almost always less than the sum of its parts, tonight's performance in Bulgaria being another example. Three goals from 22 shots, and several good chances late in the game not taken by the opposition - does any other team make such hard work of winning as Spurs?

Strange game tonight. started off really well and Harry could have had a hat trick and then we scored and became sloppy.Best45 minutes I have seen from Winks and then in second half reverted back to his usual self.Lucas Moura gets goal but does absolutely nothing but give the ball away.Unfortunately his replacement Bergwin seems to have lost confidence.Vinicius looked lost but perhaps needs time to get up to speed.Good points apart from 3 points Bale starting to look fitter and no doubt about his football intelligence Sissoko making our back four look better if only he could thread a pass and sonny and Hojbjerg their usual competent selves. Finally Decelso getting fitter and put in a good shift but still lacks the final ball sharpness which will come with game time

Yes let's all pat Felon82 on the backside for like a broken clock being right twice a day.

Apologies Felon82... that was a joke. Good post... not entirely true... but close enough.

No only us , and I thought we were pretty shite in the round - should have had 6.

Why is it always the case that teams who are in a poor run of form, always seem to perk up and play well against us?

Look like it is down to me to comment again at half time and nothing has changed. Total rubbish ffs.west brom the better team.Surely we should be dominating poor teams like this who only have brute force. We must improve second half and if we do we could go top for a while which shows how poor the league is at the moment.Am i the only person fed up with watching all our attacking talent wasted by the mind numbing football being served up.I thought football was in the entertainment industry and I want to be entertained especially in these difficult times
