I can’t work out if that is a genuine comment or if fishing for a response
At times there are players who when they play together then they make each other better and at times there are players who when they play together makes each other worse.
The Winks/Sissoko combination is to me a combination where they make each other worse. Best would be to seldom see them playing together. Split them up, play them separately according to their strengths.
For Sissoko that would mean playing matches where Spurs are expected to have little of the ball.
Sissoko looks (to me) a player who up until a year ago was an athlete in another sport and changed to football a year ago - I really do not see how he could have been paid to train and play football for more than 10 years and have such poor ball-control. About a year of training might be what I see.
For Winks that would mean playing matches where Spurs are expected to dominate possession. Teams that do dominate possession do that by not playing risky passes, Winks do not play risky passes at the center of the midfield and I don't think he should be playing risky passes at the center of the midfield. The flair should (in my opinion) be on the wings and the strikers.
I don't see Sissoko being bought by anyone, he is too old and is on too high wages for the clubs that might want him.
I don't see Winks being sold as Spurs need home-grown players and therefore might price Winks higher than purchasing clubs might be willing to pay.
There was a rumor that Winks wasn't happy about Peh coming as he thought it would mean less playing time, so like Dele i think that if they don't get enough playing time they both might want to go to a team were they are guaranteed minutes.
Winks might not make the bench now Loco is fit.
We live in hope
If Winks thinks he should play because of past performances....I can't remember which performances they were!?!?
Like Dele.....Winks has to improve to be better than the players who have come in. If he isn't prepared to do that.......
Another good result but acheived with a dire performance again. Why oh why does Mourino persist with Moura starting.I know we play on Thursday so he has to manage the squad but I can’t remember Moura having a good game since the Ajax game.Davies not. a Wing back. For all the criticism Lamela gets we definitely improved when he came on because he fights.Ndombele starting to look the player we expected. On the other side I think dyche has done well at Burnley but could I not watch that football on a regular basis.still 3points and we are above the arses
Really tough game and great result. That could have easily turned out differently but well earned 3 points.
Some excellent individual performances including Toby, Sissoko and PEH. Davies and Tanguy also put in decent shifts although a couple of scary moments turning on the edge of his own box from Tanguy but his skill and vision is a massive u turn on last season and his effort is excellent.
Burnleys set up meant it was never going to be the same type of game as we have seen over the last few weeks but to deal with their threats and to win 1-0 showed we have a new found mentality that might just drive us up the league.
Had it not been for the robbery against Newcastle and the freak collapse v West ham we'd be top by 2 points.
We are only currently 2 points off top of table now which considering how much the likes of Everton & Villa have been raved about shows where we actually are.
So true...I’m not too bothered by the VAR robbery as it seems to be a problem for everyone but the collapse was a freak however that may turn out to be pivotal for us as I’ll bet we don’t let a big lead slip again. That might have been a blessing in dissguise as we picked up a point and learnt a valuable lesson which might be the experience we needed to improve for the rest of the season.
We live in hope Felon.....let’s hope those dropped points don’t come back to bite us......
Burnley had a week to prepare and were ready for a fight, they were physical and all put in a shift and will feel they should have got at least a point, for their efforts.
Jm put out the right team to get the win, and all the players were at least satisfactory (except Lucas), Toby, Peh and Kane( mainly for big plays at both ends) were good.
Winning when not getting thing's easy is a good sign, keeping the clean sheet and then waiting for that one big chance that always comes and taking it and seeing out the game is the mark of champions. I am not saying spurs are going to be champions, however, Jm has got the good ship hotspur moving in the right direction. Coys
Can’t believe winks starts with no other defensive midfielder.plenty of quality on bench and I suspect we will need them before the game is over. This is the one weakness when Hojbjerg is not playing .I would prefer Lamela to Winks any day.
I suppose I will get criticised for commenting at half time but that was utter rubbish topped off by the horrendous error by Davies.Ali and Bergwin off at half time please. Is bale playing??No defensive cover without Hojbjerg and Sanchez looks like he does not understand positioning,The opposition playing their strongest eleven we make 9 changes. This is Europe not the league cup.I see Leicester and Celtic playing their strongest available team and guess what they are winning. This team is top of their league and should have been shown more respect by Mourino.Hopefully we can right it second half
Nobody has come and criticised me for my half time rant so I assume that you all agree that this was awful. Mourino said before the game that he was taking a chance with his selection and I’m afraid that he must take a lot of the blame for this defeat.I know that we have to give the squad games but 9 changes against the top team in Belgium is ridiculous. We should only be making 4 or 5 changes at most and some of the players in the23 should stay on the bench unless there is a crisis.Once again Winks and Sanchez play whole game. Both are championship players at best.Bale non existent due to fitness or has he gone backwards??Bit worriedthat decelso looked lost and how we missed Ndombele passing. Please Jose do not make this many changes again unless we have qualified and respect the opposition and don’t pick Winks again or Sanchez
Quoting Spurporter -
"Fantastic window it was. There is nothing negative to say."
Unfortunately we are still lacking badly in many positions, a lot of our players are bang average to poor but massively overhyped by the permanently deluded.
I wonder how many of our squad to night would get in a city Chelsea Liverpool squad let alone team Son Kane Hojbjerg Ndombele maybe reguillon and that’s about it although I hope to include our new centre half
When we finally see him play. Not a good advertisement for winning trophies is it
The squad is better than it was 3 months ago but it's plain to see that it won't be fixed in one decent transfer window too many of the squad are the ones we have relied on in the past they lack consistency Lamela Lucas etc etc can't string a decent run of form together we took the game too lightly from the start it reminded me of the last few games under Poch too many slow sideways passes but we have never won in Belgium and thankfully we won't have to go back there for a while hopefully Sunday we will play with more pace and passion but if they stick 10 men behind the ball we will struggle to break them down because we always do but we live in hope that Jose picks his best 11 because after tonight's game it pretty obvious who they are
Brilliant post game from Jose.He admitted he takes blame for team selection but did good put down of reporters when he said that they were always asking him why certain players were not picked and after today’s performance they could now see why.He also said team selection in future will be easy which suggests he now knows which players are not up to it.I would love to be at training tomorrow. Now after the criticism we will see if the players are up for it or do they throw their toys out of the pram
I can forgive Davies for his mistake it's genuine and rare. But sanchez I cannot. It's a complete basic lack of know how. Has to come across for sure but get your body shape right show the guy down the outside and get some kind of block on the shot. If it goes in then fair play to the attacker with no blame apportioned to sanchez. The lad cost 42m and shows no sign of improvement. Let's take a look at Rodon maybe on the problematic left side.
