said it before..... too many Championship standard players in defence and midfield.

we are where the ability of our squad can take us. And to be honest we have over achieved to get to that position.

I've named the dross before but got put down. too many rubbish players wearing the shirt.

First goal. Defenders stopped the attacker from putting the ball across goal, midfielders supposed to deal with pullback but.....
Second goal. Defenders supposed to stop attacker from putting the ball across the goal and failing that to be goal side of attacker in the goal-mouth but...
Third goal, skilled finish and good pass in but defenders should be able to put more pressure on the attacker.

Sheffield U have been strong in defence and good defensive tends to make attacking teams look less good, still the attacking play :-( Slow, at times it looked like players were getting in each others way and the final pass was often just slightly (or more) off. Trippier might have made a difference in this kind of match but he's no longer at the club. For some reason it looks like players are a little bit reluctant to let the ball go for a cross from the left.

The positives? Kane had one early miss on a half-chance but other than that looked sharp in the finishing.

I am watching City and Liverpool and am wondering if we will ever be in the same ball park.Players driving forward not passing sideways although Liverpool look like they are getting over celebrations.A fit Kane is the only spurs player who would get in either team and that would not be every week.In all the 60years I have supported spurs I can never remember us only having one player that would interest other teams although I still think ndombele will be a good player with the right manager. The manager we have does not get on with class players ie Debruyne and Pogba and Salah.Would it not be nice if Mourino apologised to the supporters for that performance which would give hope that he understood our frustration but it won’t happen and he will continue sucking up to Levy because I don’t think there will be many clubs after his services in future

Another shocking display terrible defending no creativity in midfield no service upfront we’re playing against three central defenders and we try to play through them the only thing we are favourites for is 14th place carry on like this next season and we could be flirting with relegation

We've been playing at snails pace for what seems an eternity now. All the safe meaningless possession with literally nothing to trouble an opponent other than scraps that Kane or Son can make for themselves.
This isn't solely JMs fault it's like a hangover of Pochs last year n a half of clueless turgid football saved by Kane & Son.
The defence has been haemorrhaging goals for a while due to the lack of quality, leadership, organisation and the brain dead ball watching errors.
We struggle to shield the defence due to lack of serious DM and players with the ability to keep the ball moving forward with purpose and gaining territory in the opposing half.
This leads to the attack having to rely on counter attacks because theirs no movement or width.

The whole defence needs upgrading not 1 or 2 players.
The midfield needs balance and an idea of what it's doing who gives who goes who holds interchanging/pivot. LoCelso looks the only promising mid we have currently.
There's numerous players who are passengers, clueless, sub standard.

If as a manager you have to tell professional seasoned players how to shut down/mark/pass/position then there's a serious problem in the quality of players you have at your disposal.

Sack JM and who do we replace him with that will improve Lloris/Aurrier/Davies/Sanchez/Dier/Winks/Sissoko/Alli/Lamela/Moura/Sessegnon etc ?

Poch improved some of then and then they all went backwards drastically so who are those that are calling for JMs head putting forward for the task?
Because just like Jose they will have the same poorly put together squad with the same deficiencies of having players that are poor individually and even worse collectively.

The tragic decline in personnel is all too evident-

    Lloris/ Old Lloris

    Rose/ Davies
    Walker/ Aurrier
    Toby/ Sanchez
    Jan/Dier

    Wanyama/Sissoko
    Dembele/ Winks-N'Dombele

    CE/ LoCelso
    Lamela/ Bergwijn
    Alli/ Shocking Alli
    Son/ Moura

    Kane/ Knackered Kane

Sessegnon Clarke Skipp KwP Foyth etc absolute dross

That's why we've gone backwards, that's why the football is awful, that's why we've been left behind.
No manager is changing that without serious backing.

I think we are almost on the same page except with JM....I really don’t believe he is capable of coaching players to play in the modern game. His style is sit deep and if you look at the players who he built previous squads around they lacked pace but suited the style of the game at the time.

Let’s say we do have a squad overhaul, when you look at the players he wants (that are the same style players from his old days), they will continue to get smashed by decent, quick sides and we will continue to set up with deep lying midfield and defence and in effect a target man. It is **** to watch and ineffective now that you have such athletic defenders playing and lightening quick, counter attacking squads.

I really do agree that Levy/Enic are a problem and I also agree we had a poor period with Poch BUT Poch wasn’t given any real time or chance with the signings he desperately to turn things around, so he can’t be blamed. With Poch our team moved as a unit, at decent pace. They were heavily let down primarily by the full backs who were so bad they threw the rest of the shape out. Now we have 3 players being let down by 8.

No matter what happens, with JM in charge, we will continue to be average at best with the odd decent performance that gets everyone’s hopes up only to return to being poor the very next game.

I will happily eat humble pie on here if I am wrong but I’m not too worried about the chances of that as JM has taken us 12 years backwards.

It’s so disappointing that wide sections of people have such negative opinions on Poch when we performed so well for 90% of his time. When he asked for signings to fix the 10% he didn’t get them.

    Who's the guy then?
Who's got more about them than JM to come in and rebuild this team?
Coz when Poch was disinterested grumpy and glum on the touchline people were touting Eddie Howe.......
It's just 1 almighty Levy style nalls up, 1 in a long line and cycle.
Poch cannot be blameless for his last year and a half the league results were appalling deflected by a flukey CL run.
He asked for rebuilds then did nothing, didn't push for signings, there was never heavy pursuit of anyone he wanted to be a coach then a manager then coach, talked in cryptic nonsense and always ended with the same happy with the squad bs.
His complicity in it was part of his own downfall and that of someone giving little long term thought to the club/team hence why he left us in a worse state than he inherited.

But why was Poch uninterested and grumpy? Could it have been that he identified a number of areas that needed to be strengthened but was told no funds were available?

I for one do not think JM is the right man to rebuild a team. Where has he done it before without spending millions and boring people to death with his style of football, let alone upsetting heaps of decent players on the way?

    For me it would be:
    1) Poch
    2) Julian Nagelsman
    3) Max Allegri
    4) Brendan Rodgers

Incredible you have Poch as No1 on your list he's partly to blame with Levy for the mess we're in as a squad.
We were in free fall under him without an away win for the entirety of 2019 left in 14th with players desperate to leave.

Of the other 3 Allegri is probably the only realistic option but again he'd need backing because the current squad is shockingly poor, thin & unbalanced.

Rodgers & Nagelsman would be insane to take on such a mammoth task when their own sides have so much promise about them and they're allowed to work unhindered/supported by the board.

You know me. I usually defend our club and its coach. But this loss was just appalling. Last time I felt down that much, I think, it was when we were relegated. I have nothing to say. I supported Spurs when they were mediocre. I will, obviously do now, but.... But I now know what Verts was thinking of after being subbed back then.
Mourinho should be given the rest of this season and the next as well. It can be awful, but before being sacked he has to be given a new back 4. Otherwise we will repeat MU who started buying defenders after Mou left.

I'd take back the Poch of 3yrs ago the one with a smile on his face who had the press and fans across the world in his hands but I certainly wouldn't take back the latter miserable version who is most definitely a big factor in all this mess. Made awful signings or allowed the club to do so. Didn't strengthen when we were strong or put pressure on the club to do so. Signed a new deal when he wasn't happy and should have got assurances over new signings.

The same Poch who still wears spurs t-shirts and whose son had signed a contract extension

unfortunately a big named manager will look for big cost players.
Levy won't sanction big purchases..... so I don't see a high profile manager taking on the job

Our next manager will be as much of a risk as the players he can afford to buy.

Kane, Son, etc... the better players...won't hang around for that.

A Fecking Horror Movie of a match.

    (1) For me JM would have been bottom of my preferred list to replace Poch, now he’s not even on it.

    (2) This is, without doubt, the worst Spurs side in 10+ years, or more. With no CL revenues, no prospect of a Naming Rights sponsor in the current climate, no live music and events income, no fans at games income, the Good Ship THFC is looking in some peril.

    (3) With little or no prospect of a mass clear out I fear for our Club, and I’ve never felt that in the 65 years I’ve followed them.

    Sad times Lads.

Tbh Bazza I'm becoming so disilussioned by it all it's hard to get the energy or care enough to give it both barrels anymore.
Nothing is gonna change with the Parasites in charge.

We are so far off Pool & City now plus Chelsea have made some really good purchases to compliment their young side, Utd always looking to get better etc.
Then you look at us and it's just embarrassing, we've already had Chairman & Manager coming out with the spin that there won't be significant investment and that wel be shopping in the freebie market.

That's what this 'Game Changer' souless shrine was built for , Freebies and watching a dull pointless circus act.

Throw in VAR, no fans and the game is dead

Might as well start the discussion early :)

    Team-selection?

I still cannot understand why what used to be one of the best CB-pairings in the EPL only a couple of years ago start on the bench. I do understand the value of having a settled CB- pairing, I just do not think Dier is a CB.

& I am perplexed by this:
    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53250794
The quote:"My boss Mr Levy (chairman Daniel Levy) tells me that he wants Eric to sign a new contract. Eric tells me that he is more than happy here," said Mourinho.
But it might be another subject, whether or not the chairman decides who to sign.

But anyway, for me the attacking players who started might start again, the CB pairing is an area of concern for me.

I am totally confused by what is going on at the Tottenham training ground. While other coaches work on improving players skill and tactical nous we seem to not do any of this.Sanchez is a strong unit who can tackle but has no positional sense whatsoever and does not understand covering and the less said the better about Aurier who can’t help keep any shape because he is a headless chicken.Last night 3 goals came from cut backs and nobody anticipated it happening. It does not help that we don’t have a Matic type who would be stopping the crosses in.Sheffield do not have forward players to match spurs but scored 3 goals Due to a team with a plan and shape that they believe in.Who takes the training at the training ground and who are Mourinos coaching staff.
