I think Spurporter that Romero and emmerson and Dier are all taller than Silva and they can all jump they don’t have positional sense and don’t know whether to man mark or Zonal.Coaching problem

Yes, let's see how Emmerson would run all the way from the right side to Thiago to overjump him...
Heading the ball is about skill, not about height or weight of the player, although they play its little roles. The ball Thiago headed was about 2.4 - 2.5 meters above the grass. A few centimeters could make some difference, but is not the sex where it it might truly matter. ;)
There was no defensive mistake there, as you clam over and over. Dier was next and even Dele double-teamed Thiago, yet he won anyway. Rondon could be better in the air than Dier, but I didn't see him a lot. As of now I am convinced that no one could stop Thiago. I am also quite positive you do not know who Thiago is.

I’m not really sure what you are saying to be honest?

Surely the first rule should be zonal or man marking, usually with someone free on the front edge of tbe 6 yard box to attack the ball as it comes in.

Secondly, you match size for size with the focus on your best headers of the ball marking the best opponents headers of the ball. That is usually a couple of big CB’s and a striker, so you match them like for like.

Dele can’t head so should not have been marking their CB. Dier is a CB so should not have been attacking the space because by the time he got near to Thiago, he had already lost the jump so was never going to win the header.

The mistake I think you are making is that to defend a header, you don’t necessarily have to win it. You just have to make sure the opponent doesn’t win it cleanly…that’s why Thiago scored, nothing to do with how many metres above the grass he jumped, Alli didn’t put enough effort in to put him off and Dier was in the wrong position to attack the ball.

    Thank you.
I know but tried to explain that to Preed who brought up Thiago's height. You did it better than me. :D
So the first goal deserves the tip of the hat. It is not a coach's fault. What coach must do is to make sure his team will not fall apart after conceding. That would be difficult, since nothing changed from Mourinho tenure in terms of leadership that is required for that. In Kane we have another Eriksen trouble that apparently didn't teach Levy anything. It may stay poisonous up until Kane let go in January.

You are still missing point Spurporter. And I don’t think Thfc was agreeing with you he was just saying that if you can’t outjump the opponent then make sure he does not get a clear jump which Tiago did.Watch teams like Chelsea who make some sort of bodily contact to stop a clearjump.A coach should make it clear that you don’t stand and watch but COMPETE

So now, Preed, you agree that it was a player not a coach? I am glad you do. Now, as a coach, I can tell you that you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.

Thiago Silva has been the best CB in the world. He is arguably better than van Dyke because he scores goals like this one.

……asking Dele to defend a corner period is a mistake by the manager.
If he told Dele to sit down on the half way line that would be a better decision

NB - so if Tiago has been the best CB in the world……someone is going to have to explain to me why Dele had the job of marking him
……surely our best defender should have had the job??

I give up spurporter I did say a good coach tells his players to stop free headers even if includes just making a nuisance of yourself .Who put ali on marking Tiago when surely Dier should have been doing it I guess the coach did.If scoring goals make you the best centre half then that honour goes to Ramos ex Real Madrid

Not as good a defender. I can bet that if Ramos played for Chelsea in Thiago stead, Spurs would have gotten one point with a 1-1 draw.( I assume Ramos would have scored same header, yet Spurs would had been leading 1-0 after 1st period w/o Thiago). Thiago was a MoM, although Alonso was on fire as well.

Both Dele and Dier played Thiago correctly positionally, yet they lost. Football is a game, as you know, but keep forgetting. Dele lacked the defensive skills upstairs, whilst Dier lacked the agility, as THFC correctly pointed out.

I guess it is Levy's fault that Spurs feature players that are inferior to their London derby opponents. No coach can address that. And neither can we here. Got to support whoever is on the pitch in lilywhite. Spurs are not as bad as you say. 1st period was very impressive. Let us hope it will expand to whole 90 minutes soon. It is a rebuilding, which is a process, not an event.

    Two words: Romelu Lukaku.
All attention was to him and rightfully so. Romero did a great job turning RL off. Thiago then got Dier. We had no one else.

Just agree to disagree Spurporter we don’t defend set pieces very well and have not yet got the centre back pairing correct. On the other side when we attack teams find it very easy to defend our set pieces .Must be a message there somewhere maybe we are not very good

We are the one man team. And he wants to leave.

Just conceded another header goal. Wolves keep shooting headers. I wonder why...

Anybody unlucky to stream this will be totally confused as I am about that performance.Totally dominant for 35 minutes and Ndombele looks great and then they score from a dead ball situation where Ndombele was totally at fault with his weak attempt to defend and then once again we are struggling and Ndombele gifts them a second goal.Ali apart from 1 pass useless Kane disinterested.Best performers for us Gil and Skipp.Remember Wolves made 9 changes does not bode well for Sunday as the arse seem to be running in to form.Let’s hope Moura is fit and I never thought I would say that because we need some pace.although Ndombele gave the ball away for the second goal Romero’s defending was not very impressive

Ndombele needs to get fitter and toughen up but its hasn't happened yet and I doubt it will although fair play to Nuno for not dragging him off I think its called man management hopefully this approach will get the best out of him but I'm not holding my breath Lo Celso is another one who is good player for his national team but doesn't produce it for his club side but we are where we if these two were at Utd City etc they would have been binned by now but we don't have the financial clout to write off 100 million

It's Thiago. And it was brilliant. We were reliably good at defending corners against Wolves, weren't we? So I suppose Spurs aren't bad at it.

What do you mean Spurporter we did not defend corners well that is why the first goal was conceded by atrocious defending from Ndombele.Did you watch tha game I doubt it.Do you ever listen to the critics who all said Tottenham’s defending corners is a joke.Spurs look like conceding at corners all the time and yet we never look like scoring when we have a corner.
