Numerous sources have claimed that Kyle Naughton will be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur just as soon as his replacement back-up full-back is tied down.

Swansea are front of the queue to sign the versatile defender having lost their star fullback Ben Davies to Mauricio Pochettino’s side last Wednesday, and Naughton would be allowed to slot straight in at left-back for the Welsh outfit.

However, the 25-year-old, who joined Spurs in 2009, could choose to move to a side in need of a replacement in his favoured right-back position.

And it is the right-back position which comes into question. Naughton currently plays accomplice to fellow former Sheffield man Kyle Walker, who has established himself in the England side as well as the Spurs one on the right of the defence, however with Naughton gone there would be a lack of cover.

Youngster Ryan Fredericks could see himself promoted to the second team squad, however rumours have emerged that Naughton’s replacement has already been found. News that Danny Rose – knocked off his top-spot at left-back by the arrival of Davies – will sign a new contract this week and happily play second fiddle to the Welshman would mean that Spurs are in the market for a thoroughbred right-back.

That rightback is supposedly Sporting Lisbon man Miguel Lopes, whose 1 year loan deal at French side Lyon ended this month.

Lopes has done the rounds in native Portugal, coming through at Benfica B before working his way through Porto, Braga and now Lisbon, while being capped 4 times by the national side.

Spurs are only said to be in for a loan deal to bring the 27-year-old in to cover Walker, who missed the World Cup in Brazil through injury.

This would of course allow Naughton to make his way out having only made 57 appearances in all competitions over 5 years, while giving young Fredericks time to prepare for the big-time during Lopes’ loan.

Thanks for these updates. Learning how the league works from here in Wisconsin; it's not always easy to follow! I'm struck by how late all of these moves are happening, just 3 weeks from the opening game.

So the back 4, in lieu of any more departures, would be Davies, Vertongen, Dawson, Walker?

Not Dawson, especially after the North American tour. Current back line would look like Walker, Verthonghen, Chiriches, Davies.

Is this deal still on? We just got Dier from them and apparently they were not very happy with the way it went down. Of course holding grudges is not professional. But I think this story was an error. It could be that we were there solely for Dier and the Lopes story may have been written in confusion? We were supposed to have the deal done Tuesday but we ended up with Dier pretty much out of the blue.
