Spurs have been in a position to win the league 2015/16 and botch messed up not to mention two chances to pick up the fa cup. Botch's philosophy, team set up and player selection are too complicated and rigid. But what really pisses me off is when he plays inferior players over superior players when he falls out with them. Why is Toby on the bench? he did the same with Walker in the semi's vs the Chavs. These decisions are costing spurs trophies. Botch has to learn not to take it personally and get the best out of players even the ones who he falls out with.

Maths was never my strong point, and 150% over budget doesn't seem so bad - keep up the good work, Daniel!

I think Poch is up there with the 2 you mention. It took Fergi almost 7 years and a huge does of good (class of 92) fortune to kick start Utd's dominance. Pep, correct me if I'm wrong has only managed super wealthy clubs in far less competitive leagues than the epl.

Enic have to invest or as you rightly say, the next top job that becomes available Poch just might think sod this I'm off and only then will some of us really appreciate what a great coach he is! Levy needs to too!

Patience is the key here, I believe that's what Pochettino is trusting in and we as fans need to believe in this process he talks about. Don't get me confused with trusting in ENIC, I believe as long as we have Pochettino as a coach; our future is always bright. There is great potential here for Spurs, not just in building a team that wins trophies....but also having a good manager develop into a legend at the club as Fergi did with United. Poch has that vision, and it seems to me that his loyalty in the club and the players (vice versa as well) can allow him to lead our club for years to come.

It's unfortunate, but it is also reality in that...the club(DL) at the moment was reluctant to take what may seem as a big gamble with how tightly wound the club finances are as well as it is his nature. As a fan, I am not particularly happy about that; but I can understand it. It seems to be that Poch himself also understands that...and I for one admire his attitude of moving on and making the best of the situation. I might be wrong but to me this doesn't seem like the crucial season that we have to go all out for it. Having just moved back into a new stadium, the team will need sometime to readjust and hopefully I do hope that tactically speaking Pochettino can grow in that capacity as well.

We won't be able to challenge for top honors, but we ought to be able to compete and display the kind of entertaining football that the fellas have shown over the last few years.

Wonderfully naïve Remy! I know because I was that soldier. The beautiful image, spiritual vision, love-in you believe is going on at THFC and to be fair has existed these past few years will breakdown and succumb to human nature! That being successful/ambitious people strive for recognition. In this case trophies/silverware. I am gonna disagree with you regards critical season! Our past harmony will turn ugly if we fail yet again to win anything this year and worst fall out of the CL places. The likes of Eriksen, Dele, Sonny. Lloris, Tripps, Lamela even H, plus our aging contingent, Verts, Dembele, definitely Toby, Rose, etc will be enticed away followed by Poch!

I'm sorry to bang on about it, but for me this is why it was SO important to strengthen when strong and not roll the dice for another season. However the incompetence/arrogance of DL this summer left us short of the 2 quality additions needed for so many reasons and has now left us vulnerable and will threaten our harem and the continued progression and potential success (silverware etc) and past "harmony" potentially seeing us hoping once again if we are able to qualify for the Europa league every other season.

I believe this summers debacle will be spoken about in Spurs history for ever and a day and the opening line time and time again will be....."Back in the summer of 2018 we were just a couple of players away from potentially returning to the glory, glory days" "So close, yet so far"!

Please, please let me be wrong!!

The scary thing in this modern era of football, is what does 70m actually get you. If you look at the market value of alot of our first team players, how many could we actually afford to buy. Without buying and developing young unproven players what realistically could we afford. If we want to buy semi proven we are shopping in the Sissoko department. We had record revenue last year yet we only made a 40million profit. So im not an accountant but it looks to me that if you are paying off a R850 million pound stadium and we go out and spend R70 million on 1 player adding in realistically R150 000 per weeks wages. That players cost would be roughly be R84 million for the year. Correct me if im wrong which im sure alot of you will but i didnt see clubs putting in any offers in our Sissoko department of deadwood. So you still need to pay the deadwood departments wages. This to me does not seem like a viable business model. If you look at our neighbors down the road they seem to be able to spend R60 million on players and pay there wages and have not sold much from the deadwood department store. Now i ask myself how do they manage to afford that. The extra revenue from there stadium must certainly help.

Could be naivete as you put it but don't believe it is that much of a turning point. Our star players are still relatively young (H, Alli, Eriksen, Sonny) and the vets who are committed should still have a few more seasons in them at the top level. The key here would be to pen the players we have to long term contracts as in the case of H, pay Eriksen, Alli and the others.

I agree that this summer's lack of activities did nothing to help us move forward in the near future, but the long term objective can still be salvaged. Let's not be too nearsighted; if this coming year DL is able to extend the core team's contracts and maybe get a deal for Toby in the winter if he refuses to sign, by season end; it won't seem like such a loss. Let's focus on enjoying the football now.

It looks that way. But only when he wins it will be that way. Spurs can win the EPL title this season with some help of fortune. Fortune is more helpful than Levy ever was. We need to have no critical injuries, and we need MCFC to go through title hangover. We can bypass Mou, who is on his 3rd year. Position for position we are better on paper than Liverpool. So it is possible, although not probable.
Our weakness, obviously is the depth and in the tactical advancement of the manager. While Poch cannot do much about depth, he has to focus of getting analysis, intelligence and in game flexibility to improve. Instead of relying on making player changes, when things do not go his way, the tactical configurations may be changed, if players trained well to execute them. That how Juventus got by us. He can get better, so let's hope he will. He must win the title, not to buy it, like others. After that he could be trusted with large investments he deserve.

It's funny how Levy always makes big bids on players that won't come, Martial, Zaha and now De Jong he knows we won't get any of them but he makes a big bid. Levy is getting really boring and predictable, it's all about make the club worth as much as possible for as little as possible for Levy and Joe Lewis, Sell the club make your profit and sell to someone who is going to put money in not keep taking money out.
