Spurs will look to sign off a disappointing campaign with a victory on the final day of the season against Aston Villa in what is likely to be Tim Sherwood's final game in charge of the club.

The Lilywhites only need a point on Sunday to confirm their place in the Europa League next season. They can even afford to lose the match providing Manchester United fail to win away at Southampton.

Should Spurs pick up all three points it would equal their highest number of Premier League wins in one season (21) set in 2009-10 and repeated in 2012-13.

Aston Villa, safe from the threat of relegation, can afford to relax going into Sunday's encounter. Fresh off the back of a 4-0 thumping at the Etihad in midweek, Paul Lambert's men will be buoyed by the fact that they have tended to performed well against the top teams this season, picking up victories against Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

There is one added incentive for the Villians - if they were to win this match they would become the fifth side in Premier League history to reach 500 points away from home.

The last time these two sides met at White Hart Lane was back in October 2012. The Lilywhites eased to a 2-0 victory thanks to strikes from Steven Caulker and Aaron Lennon. In the reverse fixture at Villa Park earlier this season Spurs prevailed by the same scoreline. Goals either side of half-time from Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado.

    What they said...

Tim Sherwood: “On their day, Villa are a very good side and away from home, they have a number of threats within their ranks, particularly with the pace they possess on the counter-attack and they have certainly saved some of their best performances for away from Villa Park.”

“We have to make sure we apply ourselves correctly and get what we need, and that’s a victory.
“It’s always good to win your last game to send the fans home with a positive result.”

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert on the performance he expects from his team...“This weekend, I expect the same commitment we had at Man City. The exact same.”

"Potentially this football club should be up there challenging the likes of Spurs and Everton"
"That's how big the football club is, the magnitude of it. The fanbase is huge.”
"Any team that wins a European Cup should never be in the position of fighting relegation for four years. I've been here two years and it should never be in that position. It cannot keep doing what it's doing."

There are only 2 players that can hold their heads high from this entire season Lloris and Eriksen, Adebyor had a little spell aswell other than that there has been little to cheer.
Really think we could do with out the europa next season as we are suffering a major identity crisis at present and could do with just simplifying things. We would also have to trim the fat of this bloated squad of mediocrity.
Id like us to concentrate on the league and both or either domestic cups next season. Either way il be glad this season is finally over.

For G sake isn't it obvious to everyone that watches the mighty spurs - Kane will be great in the Championship division with Naughton - Siggy "Maybe Fulham" - It is so sad when the manger says - they are so good because when they make a mistake they try even harder to rectify it???? WTF - We need players who are not constantly making mistakes then no rectification is required when your 2 down!!!!! - Get off your I like the reserves and youth and manage in the county leagues

Lack of motivation and leadership that's all - give the kye players confidence and they wil produce - you don't become a bad player over night - Manager?? YES

Sorry didn't realise kaboul suspended but bring in veljkovic to play rather than dawson as we need to see a promising chiriches play on his more natural right side rather than most of his starts babysitting dawson on the left. Be interesting to give chici and JV have a run of games together with a new left bk
