It was a painful defeat. Both PEH and Doherty were mediocre. Moura was terrible. Kane looked lost. Son in first period and Steve in the second were noticeable. The rest - not so much. Mou starting 11 were wrong. We are back into last season.

It's an awful team and an even worse squad.
Not a single upgrade in players since 16/17.
    Complete and utter negligence

I think Ancelotti got players that he wanted.....sadly JM never will.
JM is used to big named performance players...... who has he got here...... Son and a crocked Kane.
    Winks......ffs......he's not even Championship standard

......and I agree..... Doherty will wonder why the feck he left Wolves.

    Well that sucked....
Saw someone had calculated that the Spurs bench had cost 200 million pounds. Sounds like a big number but the big money signings are what they are.

First half had moments when it looked like the players were pressing like a team again. Alli wasn't great in that and was subbed but in came Sissoko who seems more interested in what others are doing than doing his own assigned job. That lack of focus makes it impossible for him to do his assigned job.
Everton with three new players in midfield played better togther than the players who had been playeing together for a long time at Spurs.

The Everton goal showed why I don't like defending free kicks so high. The attacking players can attack the ball and put more pace on it while the defenders are running towards their own goal and are afraid to score an own goal.

Is there any body on here who still trusts Mourinos tactical nous or team selection. If so come on here and convince me.Tell me what Winks does and tell me how can Moura learn to control the ball and can any body teach Sissoko how to be a footballer with brains. On the Amazon tv program it is suggested that Sissoko is the main man in the dressing room. So how sad is that

    too many players below standard.
Oh wait.... I've said the same as last season.....
still the same 10 first to go for me.....
Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Foyth, Aurier, Winks, Sissoko, Gedson, Moura & Lamela.......

We will go nowhere with these guys in the team

The problem is Guesty that we’ve royally painted ourselves into a corner. No decent new players is not JM’s fault, and with little prospect of there being funds to build, we are up s**t creek without a paddle. I agree with the list, but we can’t get shot of them all, distressed seller and all that. It’s going to be a long winter........

Today was not a surprise was it. It’s been coming and with Everton building and us not, I had my usual zero expectation. What I didn’t expect was such a piss poor performance from pretty much the entire team.

The worry is that H looks generally unhappy...and sluggish. One more season at best me thinks.

Back four so poor and gifted their winner by setting such a high line. Dier - never a CB in a million years.

But no funds make for a season of pain. What’s the target - 40 points to stay up.

    As ever COYS!

I said it most of last season and I think the same will ring true this season. I personally do t believe JM is the person that can do what we need and I’ll be surprised if he makes it through the season. I actually like what I’ve seen of him as a personable bloke but despite doing ok last season, defending so deep and scraping points can only last so long.

It’s strange the sheer contempt that some hold for Poch, talking about his lack of character, lack of spine to levy for transfers etc then using lack of signings as an excuse for JM. The clear issue is the clubs lack of desire to spend and there is no manager in world football that will be able to stand up to their boss to force signings. That is not JM’s fault, he is after all, an employee, just like Poch always was.

Based on today’s performance it’s painfully obvious what needs to happen:

    1) JM at some stage will be sacked and paid handsomely for his efforts leaving us in a world of pain
    2) We will not improve a great deal because no one in their right mind would want the job given the structure
    3) Until we are sold, which will be long after Covid, we will be fighting for a top 10 finish
    4) Alli, Moura, Ndombele, Aurier, Sanchez all need to be sold along with the others who we all know about that won’t achieve much sale value
    5) Sissoko will still be forced to cover 4 or 5 positions across the pitch until the players in those positions are replaced. Sissoko is the first name on the team sheet for me until such time the rest of the squad is improved then his poor touch/shooting can be criticised and he should be benched

I will let you know this Thursday, Preed. I need to see whom JM will start in Plovdiv to determine whether today lineup was a rotation attempt that went poorly or something worse.

How do you know? Last window was quite generous. Wait for the end of this one. Chelsea-like rebuild is not what JM was hired for. Levy will spend he is far from done.

The reason winks starts is because we have nobody else. Lo Celso injured. Sissoko can run but cannot play. Ndombele can play but cannot run. Where are the alternatives? There are so many areas in this side need addressing and the mediocre budget just cannot cover it!

We get the usual ramblings about JM not being the right manager for the job.
So I'm gonna ask who it is that comes in instead and turns this utter car crash of a squad around?
People will say things like LoCelso and Lamela were missing as if that would've changed the out come.
I challenge anyone to write down their best 11 from this squad and itl have at least 4 players in it with question marks surrounding ability/consistency/past best/error prone/performance.
And beyond those 1st 11s there is even worse on the bench.
Pochettino & Levy destroyed what was built between them and anyone now is on a hiding to nothing.

Too many wet fans gleefully clapping negligence and supporting failure, letting these parasites and bang average players with stinking attitudes get away with it.

JM needs to be and should be backed to rip this squad up and start again.
Too many comfy and disinterested players stealing a living at Spurs.

Spurporter you don’t disappoint .Do you really think Mourino was rotating for first match of season. The players need all the games they can get as they looked totally unfit. At least he has criticised the players for lack of effort but does not see his his tactics being totally wrong. The excuse that the free kick was taken from the wrong place is ridiculous as a decent centre half would have cleared the danger instead we had Dier not being able to get off the ground. If we lose on Thursday then Mourino must go although he won’t because it will cost Levy money,.You would think Levy would read the criticism and it would worry him but he admits in the Amazon documentary that he knows he is critisisedbut his critics don’t understNd how difficult it is to buy new players. When you are as tight as him it probably doesFelon I agree with your comments about the squad and what Levy andPochetino did to it but I can’t agree that we should give the job of rebuilding to Mourino as he had shown he is totally out of touch with modern day tactics.I don’t know who we need now which is sad but after Sunday I think he has lost the players

I understand the problem Felon, but can’t at the moment see a solution. As a distressed seller, were we to try to offload all the players that we need to, we would generate peanuts from any fire sale. With revenue dropping like a stone with no CL, no fans, no NFL, no concerts yet, debt to fund, Covid still dominating, it’s five years at least to get through this dark tunnel.....mmmm....might not be here to see that through!

Awful situation. Whichever personnel you put into a starting 11.....the team is not good enough

My 10 above are followed by NDombele (who I just don't think will ever be good enough. At £50m+ I hope I'm proved wrong). I'll give Hojbjerg a couple of games to prove his worth.... but positional he looked poor.
Sissoko I'm not keen on as a footballer but he puts his foot in and doesn't shy away from getting tough.

I'd be putting the youth into the 1stX1match training......
Cirkin...Tanganga (when fit)... Sessegnon...White...Clarke....they can't be any worse

After some more time to think then:
    • in my opinion the goal was more due to the quality of the ball played in than due to defensive errors. I still believe that defending set-pieces by having a high-line isn't great, it has been the norm for years (if not decades) but I still consider it a new and not very good tactic. I see it as trying to play for an offside and if the offside does not happen then it is a risky tactic. The ball in was perfect and extremely difficult to defend against.
    • the substitution of Alli.... It created more confusion than anything else and at 0-0 the way it was done with moving players around did not quite make sense to me. But it looks like Alli doesn't have the hunger to perform and it somehow needs to be re-awakened. There is a risk that his career might go the way of David Bentley https://punditfeed.com/quick-reads/david-bentley/

The high press demands high work-rate and being close to the opposition player.
Few flair players are that kind of player, the ones who are that are in very very high demand. If Spurs are to have players who are not participating in the high-press (CE pretended to do so, he was seldom close enough to his player to actually do so) then it risks committing players too high up on the pitch and being vulnerable. Alternatively, acknowledge that the flair players aren't going to commit to the high-press and defend deeper.

Are we serious about trying to sign Sorloth who is on loan to trabonspur from Crystal Palace who can’t score goals. If he was any good wouldn’t Palace recall him. Usual Levy going on the cheap for a player to sit on bench and steal wages from proper players

I notice Skipp was voted man of the match by Norwich supporters on Saturday.Surely he was better than Winks and Sissoko.Shameful way the club have treated Rose by not telling him he did not get a squad number and he found out from press.I know he could be problem but he had given years of service and deserved better. No wonder players don’t want to join us

Brilliant....support failure....When Poch took over in 14, the club had managed only two top-four finishes in 22 Premier League seasons, they achieved that in four of his five seasons and got to a CL final. Gleeful clapping indeed.

Still as you seem to keep missing the point, I’ll say it again. It’s NOT about Poch, it’s about the style and quality that JM has delivered from the same pile of cack squad. Poch is gone so some fans obviously got the result that they wanted but some didn’t as despite his failings we were not the usual side that no one was afraid of. The one thing that makes no sense on that topic is the same things being used as reasons for Pochs demise and opportunities to attack what he did or didn’t do are being used as excuses for JM and the sorry state he is in.

If you hand on heart believe that we are getting the very best performances out of the squad we have available, I feel a bit sad. We do have lots of players that need to be replaced but their lack of organisation, drive and positivity is pulled from the coaching and instructions that they being fed. Yes we have some bang average players and yes some are stealing a living but they are still a squad full of internationals that JM is choosing to start in the formation that he thinks works with the deep defensive gameplan that he puts in place.

JM was a great manager but football has changed and he is simply not great anymore. In order to start to improve performances we first need to play to the strengths of the squad we do have available. That is not happening IMO.

I fully respect the fact that Levy seems to be driving the club into the ground due to the lack of investment in players and lack of improvement in scouting capabilities but maybe the requirement to protect the club finances is driving that position. The right thing to do is sell the club for their market value, not an over inflated price to seek out huge profits. That has nothing to do with Poch or JM, that is Levy and the owners and who knows if they will prove to be right in the long term.

I really wish JM turns us into top 4 title contenders again but don’t believe it will happen, I suppose we will see later in this season what happens...I for one, just want to see performances with more positive football as that is what the squad are...overpaid but footballers non the less
