Holtby in Hamburg for medical

German midfielder Lewis Holtby has been pictured in Hamburg ahead of his medical to complete a supposed loan switch to the Bundesliga side.

Holtby always looked likely to leave the club this summer after failing to appear in any of Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League starting eleven, despite an impressive pre-season campaign.

And Hamburg too always looked the most likely destination, with former Spurs Rafa van der Vaart calling for a deal to be struck with the talented central midfielder, who spent last season on loan at then-Premier League club Fulham.

The 23-year-old has struggled in England since his switch from Schalke in January 2012, but has managed to make 41 Spurs appearances at a club it is clear he holds close to his heart. In his time he managed 3 goals, including a memorable last minute strike away at Craven Cottage.

The deal will see Lewis spend the season in native Germany where he will most likely make the starting eleven each week, allowing him to return a stronger player for the experience – even though it looked like a permanent deal may be on the cards.

This is a very bad move by Tottenham letting him go. He cared about the club and was a good holding midfielder, something that was lacking at home on Sunday against the scouse. All I can say to Blofeld is, "You had better replace him! You have until 11pm tonight!"

 

Yet another pointless signing with only the intention of making money off of.
Holtby has no natural position and was not bought to improve the team, just to make a profit off of.
