Brilliant performance…Nuno set us up well and I loved his comments after the game “we are trying to create a unit, and everybody has to be engaged, everybody has to be committed’.

That is exactly what we need, especially while we swap and change players around. Anyone not up for it should go (Kane and Ndombele spring to mind). I genuinely feel it’s a good time to sell Kane (like I thought last season) and with the money could really strengthen our squad. Son seems to stand up when Kane isn’t playing and we just seem to look like a more fluid attacking side.

Bergwijn and Moura both excellent, PEH was great and Sanchez looked like a different player (altjough we still need 1 more CB as not convoinced it will last). Tanganga was outstanding and has to start every week (again, need another RB just in case of injuries to him).

It’s one game and there is a long way to go but I hope that this may have convinced some people to actually give Nuno a chance to show what he will be doing with us. We looked solid defensively but the counters were lightening quick.

    What a great start….

Mourinho's tactic. Mourinho carbon copy victory of November last year. Mourinho result. Most players knew what to do. Nuno is Mou2.

Surprising line-up and surprising result. Seeing such concentration and focus for the full 90 minutes was great.

Had some concerns when Son chose not to go for goal/attack a couple of times in the first half. Moura and Tanganga great. CBs are often only noticed if they make mistakes or last ditch defending. They didn't make mistakes and were so well positioned that they didn't need to do much last ditch defending.

Pep appears to have been found out, the tactics used was one used by a few teams who beat Man City. Allow them to have the ball out wide and since they don't have a poacher or natural striker then there might not be anyone to put the ball in the net. So many touches in the opposition penalty area and so few chances.
Few teams might have the quality to beat Man City but many will play like this against them.

Did you actually watch the game?

One more thing, Nuno appears to have learned from the mistakes of other managers: Subbing in Sissoko to stop from conceding didn't work for France in the Euros, didn't work for Spurs in the LC-final, didn't work for Spurs in Europa-league and the few times that it did work in the EPL then it meant surrendering the midfield (i.e. playing 'anti-football').

Tactics might be similar but the difference between football and anti-football might be about who is playing or not. Lo Celso coming in meant that Spurs wanted to continue playing football.

A good win, it will be interesting to see how the CBs will handle playing against more specialised strikers/poachers. If they continue playing as well as they did then there might not be a need for another CB. Too early to tell, as is the ones who played made a case for them being good enough.

So, just a few pointers here. As he's been mentioned Mourinho won this fixture 2-0 last season.
I was 1 of very few on here who was bigging up Nuno and said he'd be a very good appointment.
Am I happy with the result? Extremely.
Am I gonna lose my sh;t n get carried away coz we won an opening day fixture v a strangely set up City who were pretty woeful? No.
Do we still need a lot more quality and depth in this squad? Most definitely.
1 shock result doesn't change anything.

Needs a lot more time to judge exactly what's happening and where we actually are.

Sure I did. This is a last year football. I do not mind it, as long as we win. But it would be premature to declare Nuno a new messiah. Players might have executed better than under Mou, but MC were a poor, unbalanced team B. Maybe C.

It's amusing reading the different opinions it was a great result but anyone remember we were top of the league last November and we were gonna win it but it went tits up pretty quickly we are still stuck with one or two players that will reverted to their previous level of one good game out of five hopefully I'm wrong but history dictates that I'm probably not enjoy the wins and don't overreact to the loses still would like another cb and creative midfielder but if we win our next 37 league games we will win the league

That’s good…you will have notice then that despite the solidity in the defending, the ball stayed under knee height and we used pace to carry the counter attack. We also pressed for possession in our half. The players we did use had no issues passing to each other rather than aiming for space in behind with long balls and for some reason our defenders actually pressed space to close attacking options for city (well after 15 mins anyway)

Very true, the main difference between this and last season is the way we approach games and results. When we were 1-0 up we kept pressing forward at speed and looked the most likely to score again. We didn’t sit off and concede possession, allowing ourselves to be attacked or overrun for the remainder of the game. We also used the quality of the players available. We defo need another CB and another decent MF but we can only comment week by week but tat was a good overall performance which based on last season was just as important as the result. Of course City were not their best and of course we will struggle in other games against different opponents but it’s good to see players actually being used for their strengths (even if we do still need signings to improve the squad).

I came to this game at The Lane as I’d felt when I was last here, as in with no expectations. The mood was good though, positivity even, lifted by the buzz down in the bars and above ground when we took our seats.

On our new manager I was not for, but also not against. I felt he needed a chance, he wasn’t the brash smart-arsed JM, which was a big plus for me, and he had proven he could get a tune out of a team with no obvious top class players, Jimenez apart.

We’re not strong with a back 3, so I liked the 4-3-3, albeit not the centre backs, but needs must.

What followed was a hugely satisfying two hours, apart from the opening 10 or 15. To a man I’ve rarely seen such a committed performance from a Spurs side in recent times. Watching from high on in East Upper the shape was held so very well, PEH marshalled everybody as any outfield skipper would and should, it was a great watch from start to finish. For me Moura stood out, and Tanganga all enthusiasm and grit, helped in no small way by the most liberal of refereeing I’ve ever seen from Anthony Taylor.

    I rarely stay beyond 90, but I did yesterday - whilst one swallow doesn’t make a summer……

City could not hit the target early and quickly got tired, as we out run them in last hour.

Long ball after the long ball we sent over in the first half. Proven to be ineffective that changed in second period, as city were running out of gas

Another feature of Mou-ball we employed last season.

Son scored a wonder goal. Just guarantee that kind from Son every second game and I will gladly share your enthusiasm. Sorry, I cannot. Plus, if something happen to Son, it could be a greater disaster compared to Kane injuries of the past.
The team is barren behind Sonny. Dele can dribble, but cannot run. Steve can run, but cannot dribble. Moura can run, can dribble, but unable to score. Locelso is not an attacker... Ndombele has no role as of yet.
If Kane sold, Spurs are losing most their air power. There is none there to score from cross or corner. Spurs should have played all their corners short against MC.
Spurs need to sign a few players of quality. We have enough promising youngsters. Hopefully we will have Kane money for it. Without such additions we will be competing for UEL, no more.

Not sure whether we intend to try and win conference cup or throw it early.Today’s squad does not have any of sundays team even on bench. The squad is very young and inexperienced with no real forward power.Could be one of the struggling away days we had under Jose.I would have expected 3or4 first teamers as cover. We will hopefully see Gil and Romero and de celso gets minutes. At least we get to see if Scarlett can produce at a higher level.

Conference cup? Anything with "conference" in it sounds superficial. From now on I call it UEL2. That's what it is. Same looking trophy, anthem, promotion to UEL1, etc. Does anyone know what prize money is for every stage? If it less than in domestic cup, I know how it will be handled. Although in pandemic crisis every penny will matter. So, we'll have to see.
There is the second leg in a week. That is when the heavy artillery will be brought in, if needed. Goals away do not count; thus, no need to run a riot in Portugal.

We may need more than the heavy artillery if we play second half like the first.I said big mistake not to take a couple of the big boys for this situation. For all our other bad away days we did take a few first teamers with us .No surprise that Winks has been awful as has Sessengon and Decelso. Can anyone tell me why Carter Vickers is still on our books let alone playing. This cup may be beneath us but it’s the chance to win something and we need that as does Nuno so stop picking Third rate players to do the job or the support from last week will disappear very quickly

This was truly a ****take by Nuno.Did he really think that a hotchpoch team of Young untried kids plus the likes of WinksCarter Vickers and Doherty could go to Portugal and beat a team that finished Fifth in their league .Pure stupidity or total arrogance or a way of going out the competition.Maybe I am old fashioned but I want to win every game.I watched the stream which was not very good but even that showed that the people with first team experience ie Decelso were awful.I won’t criticise the youngsters although it’s obvious they are not ready for top flight football yet but the players with first team football behind them were not good at all .Gill looked promising but unfortunately he had Doherty behind himI leave the worst to last Winks appalling. We must get rid of WinksDoherty Carter Vickers even if we have to give them away.Sessengon still a mystery to me.Our judgement of players over the last 3 years a joke let’s hope the new man has better judgement.I don’t remember Nuno playing such weak squads for Wolves in Europa 2 years ago.If he carries on with this we will be out very early and maybe that’s the ambition.See Roma played strong team tonight and won away in same competition maybe Jose wants to win it

    Is anyone getting it yet?

    This squad is utterly woeful

A formation with both wing-backs AND wingers might be too many out wide leaving to few in the middle. That being said then there were some really poor performances.
I'd have expected Lo Celso to be more competitive, he took the safe option too much and was really poor. I thought CCV was sold already, not sure why he got to play as I think it would have been better to play someone who might have a future with Spurs than him.

Going into a match should be about going in, respecting the opponent and therefore making a real effort. Some players did not do that today.

I agree Felon the squad is woeful but the kids should not have been playing as their confidence will have been shattered by that show.If you want to give the youngsters a game then use 2 with a strong team for experience.Just seen Nuno press conference and it was usual *****hit which surprises me as I expected honest answers
