So 4pm sees us kick off away at Goodison vs Everton.

Recently big spenders Everton sit in 11th while remarkably we sit in 3rd.
For 2 traditional big clubs that were for a while seen as best of the rest we are now an established top pack side whereas Everton are still looking in from the outside, I have no doubt that in a few years they will be much closer once their spending meets with some consistency.

    But onto today's game....

This is a game that we must capitalise on seeing how results have panned out so far this weekend, Chavs & City both losing at home this is the time where you have to get 3 points. Not just for top 4 sake but we are still in touching distance of Liverpool if we win.

Games v Everton always seem to be a hard fought contest for us , they do posses some quality players but we really should be stepping up a gear with the importance of what a win does for our league position and ambitions.

Currently it's a very congested top 5 with a possibility of a revitalised Utd surging back up the table, only Liverpool seem have given themselves some breathing space.

So a win puts us 6 points behind Pool, 2 points behind City and gives us a 5 point buffer over the 2 lesser London clubs ;).

It's the only result we need no excuses !

Interestingly looking at the table , currently we have scored the least of the top 6 and have the 4th best defence of them as well. Although ticking along nicely both these stats need to improve.

    Prediction a hard fought 1-2

Big game for us but they're all big games now aren't they . Like you say it's imperative to capitalise on the others slip ups and a win today is the difference between looking up the way and looking down the way for the time been ... C.O.Y.S ....

Brilliant performance. Shame about more injuries- hope they are minor
Thought Sanchez got up to speed quickly. Skippy looks good. Only one I thought was off today was Lamela- thought he tried to hold on to it too long all the time
Good league position , bossed Everton and showed that spending in the transfer window may not be all it’s cracked up to be!

spurs look so much better without Dier, the backward passing has reduced since he has been out.

Was working so only caught the highlights but the goals looked top draw, seems we're starting to hit a bit of form at last just at the right time.

    Merry Christmas everyone for tomorrow

Our football at times yesterday was outstanding , some great goals but our movement and interplay was really impressive . Now Everton played a very open game which played onto our hands a bit but you still have to go and do your own job and we done that with aplomb . Our defending is still not up to scratch tho , we're more vulnerable at the back at this moment then we've been for a while . Hopefully we'll get that together to some degree going forward . Injuries are not helping in that department but we're getting through it . Hopefully we'll start getting a few back over next couple of weeks .

What a strange season it's been up to now , we've struggled quite a bit with injuries , form and fatigue but we've more often than not kept getting results . The guns been to our head quite a bit already and we've dug out some massive results especially in the Champs LG with some late late goals and thats given us a lot of belief I.m.o .. Right now we've put ourselves in a great position to kick on into the new year . Who knows what might happen , I've given up trying to predict but at this moment the opportunities are massive for this side . C.O.Y.S and Merry Christmas ....

What an open game it was, going back and forth...with both teams playing without any recognized defensive midfielders. Our quality in the end won out, going forward the movements....Son's runs were outstanding! It's always fantastic seeing Kane, Alli, Eriksen all together on the field. Sissoko and Winks were good in the middle, but against tougher sides...we'll need a true CDM in there or else our defense we'll get exposed.

Good seeing Sanchez get back, hit the ground running...hope Alli's injury isn't too serious! I've been impressed with how Poch has dealt with all the injuries and the tiredness from most of the players coming from the summer; on top of that the stadium delays. This season I believe has been he's most impressive since joining, it's been really outstanding. No excuses...just doing the job. Very exciting time for the whole squad, he'd be foolish to leave. I cannot see that happening!

11 goals in two games and now second. Let’s cross our fingers for arsenal and Man City to heat Liverpool and if we can get two wins- we are joint top(poor goal difference though)
Back to reality now.. great result although it could have been 5-5, Lady Luck has been with us lately- about time as she was blanking us earlier in the season !

Thought kpw was great today, Foyth needs to work on his challenges in the area

Who would have predicted we would have been second and above Man City on Boxing Day - not Felon that’s for sure
Only kidding my incarcerated friend - happy Xmas and all the best to everyone

    Certainly wouldn't have.

I am glad after half a season we've started taking it to the other side rather than boring them into submission, football for me is all about that.
Poch and the players have done well despite absolutely no back up from the board who at every turn have hamstrung the team as a whole.
(6 points off top spot Liverpool let's hope the lack of investment doesn't just let us down again over the course of the season aye)
Plenty of games still to go can't argue that 2nd EPL, CL last 16, lg cup semi etc is not a great position to be in but we're nowhere near over the line for any of it, (remember Chelsea are currently closer to us in 4th with Scum on their coat tails than we are to Liverpool in 1st)
Must deliver something more than did well again.
To do this needs more professionalism than swanning about in the NLD , limping through Group Stages etc, it's the leap we need to make can't keep falling short so must now attack the second half of the season like winners do.

Everything seems to have come together, but at the wrong time, at least based on previous Pochettino seasons, where a slow start is followed by a red-hot mid-season streak, only to end with a damp squib when the trophies are being handed-out. This year though, has so far been a bit different, in that we've started with terrible football but good results, and have now managed to combine performances with points, so let's hope that delayed World Cup fatigue, combined with Sonny's impending departure and the usual crop of injuries don't combine to derail our triumphant march to glory - even the League Cup (whatever it's currently called) will do - we've only got to see off Chelsea and City after all!

An absolutely stellar couple of games, adding 9 to our goal difference is a great return from the two Christmas games, pick up 6 points in the next two and we could be even closer to the Scousers.....but, what price the disruptive impact of the stadium delays, Sonny heading off for a few weeks, and the negative impact of ongoing key player contract discussions.

With much of the work stopped for the holiday until Jan 7th, whilst this may affect exterior aspects of the Stadium build, in surely points to there being little chance of having a large scale fan event before the end of January, meaning Feb looks further away than ever to see us moving in for real....which means yet more Wembley....doh!

Sonny heading out, when he's in his best form this season is a real bummer....need to hope he doesn't progress too far in the Asia Cup.

As for the contract negotiations, or lack of them, it feels like we are at risk of losing three key players from the team - Toby, Verts and Eriksen....surely we're not that narrow in our view of value and quality that we can let these players go, or even let them be unsettled by such matters. The news today about extending Toby, and the £25m Summer release clause just seems so wrong to me. The wage differences surely are far less than the replacement cost of any and all of these players. Surely as well if we let them go, it just makes MP's departure all the more likely.

We sit in a great position across all fronts, but it's like standing on the edge of the cliff at Beachy Head on a windy day.....high risk for sure, suicidal even...mmm!

    Hasn’t Verts extended?

He tweeted a post a week or so ago saying « happy to extend my contract «

Spurs can't afford to let anyone go in January the squad is to thin as it stands and being in 4 comps means all fit players will have to contribute.
Buying in Jan likely means the player won't be ready for 4 months like moura, not saying spurs shouldn't buy quality if it's available, however, it may take time for player to settle.
Looking forward to the summer, dembele, llorente are free agents, Ce and toby have 1 year left (toby 25m release this season) Gkn not good enough and Wanyama long term injury mean there is a lot for the board to sort out. Keeping Toby and Ce is a no brainer, however if agreement cannot be reached two quality replacements have to be bought in to replace them. I would sell dier and trippier in the summer both are no longer needed.

Baz I popped up there a fortnight ago , there is no way January is a realistic target I'd be suprised if Feb was either.
And judging by the amount of builders I see standing around drinking tea and smoking there looked very little enthusiasm to be aiming for deadlines etc.

Jan is sorted for the next 18 months. Eriksen looks to have hit a stalemate and if he doesn't sign soon I'd expect him to be moved on in the summer at the latest if not in the window. If we receive 120m plus and its put bk into two quality signings as Liverpool did with the coutinho money I'd not be too disappointed. The Toby deal is strange to work out as its been to be portrayed to be over money but I'm not so sure. He's on around 50 grand a week and a new deal of around 150 grand will have been on the table for nearly 2 yrs or so which will mean he's lost about ten million come the summer when his contract expires. It wouldn't make sense to lose that kind of money over a protracted 30 grand a week in difference to what we offered and what he wants(180 grand) .
Also it been said we were willing to sell for 25m in the summer just gone and we received not one single offer. Strange that. Maybe clubs are in the know that he doesn't want to leave and is simply running his deal down to move closer to home. On the grand scheme though to pay 11m for a player of his class on 50 grand a week for 4 yrs service and sell him at 25m at 30 yrs old woukd be good business. Obviously I'd prefer him to stay as he's world class imo and the club will look at it that we already signed his replacement in sanchez plus the emergence of foyth will mean any transfer fee we reciece can be invested elsewhere in the side

Our defence without Toby in it is weaker regardless of having Sanchez & Foyth, Fergie got every last drop out of Ferdinand & Vidic because their experience and leadership is invaluable.
Can't believe (I can) the club have dilly dallied about where it concerns a genuine world class member of the side, the club either want to be a serious outfit or just fleece fans with an uncertain merry go round.
Eriksen stalling on a contract- as I've said for the last couple of years Top players are motivated by Honours and Money not the promise of a building and growth strategy, regardless of Son Alli Kane etc signing new contracts they will all arrive at the same cross roads if this failure to pick up Trophies and the continued penny pinching carries on. If as you say Fran the money is invested in 2 proper players not a scatter gun hope of youngsters it would do well to soften the blow, but still again it's letting one of our better players go again and more hopeful/transition.

Agree mate. Love the Jan Toby partnership I think it's as good as any in world football. I'd prefer eriksen to stay also I'm enjoying his deeper role with alli in the no10 behind two CFs but they just don't wanna sign. Probably money I guess but who knows. 150k a week for Toby will make him one of the highest paid centre halves in the world I'm sure.

What a can of worms Felon.....just as we are facing 5 at home plus Cardiff and Fulham....Eriksen, Jan, Verts - top quality players, world class trio....the delights of being a Yiddo.....

There they are , the Spurs we know and love.
Put ourselves in a good position then blow it with a woeful performance.

It's the sheer lack of anyone from Poch to all the playing staff to not be able to see it coming or do anything about it when everyone else can, that still smacks of a certain amatuerish naivety to any serious hope of doing something.

Lloris is an embarrassment needs selling !

    Infuriating being a Spurs fan
