We won and credit to the players for their work ethic and persistence but when your Gk is voted m.o.t.m and he was, that says it all for me!

Seems like the BBC pundit and commentary pre-match briefing was if we win and regardless how we win, lets not talk it down!

The most depressing aspect of this is that the array of 'tactics' which used to be associated with South American or Italian teams (time wasting, feigning injury, diving etc) are now completely acceptable, even to squeaky-clean would-be luvvies like Lineker. 'Game management' and being 'streetwise' are the new terms for cheating, and there's no pretence any more that England are above such things - perhaps they never were, and I'm just naive, but I don't think Lee or Summerbee (notorious cheats from City's late '60s title team, for our younger fans) would have had into trouble fitting into the modern game. But if we win, it's all right, at least according to the Beeb.

Although I'm not a fan of cheating or the darker arts , I think Spurs would do well to learn some.

I certainly am, but the TV pundits are taking the art to new depths at this World Cup; Colombia deserved all the criticism they received from Lineker, Shearer and the rest, but to lavish praise on an England team devoid of imagination and so determined to hang onto the ball at all costs that numerous good attacking positions were turned into passes all the way back to Pickford was ridiculous, and for Keown (on ITV, to be fair to the Beeb) to talk about the need for 'game management' (by which he meant time-wasting and killing a game that hundreds of millions of viewers, plus the crowd itself, were watching in the hope of seeing good attacking football) is a disgrace - football is sport, not war, and the end doesn't justify the means, at least not for this particular hypocrite.

Devastated - one of my all-time Tottenham heroes passes away. RIP Alan Gilzean - a true star and a gentleman, a rarity in modern footballers. Condolences to the Gilzean family.

Obviously not my era but a club legend all the same, was just reading an article about him.
Sad news let's hope there's a Good Tribute to him when we kick off at the NWHL

I think Gilly's golden period was actually at Dundee, when they reached the European Cup semi the year after we did, but he was always a crowd favourite at WHL, his incredible glancing back headers being absolutely unique - I can't think of any other footballer with that skill, but I'm open to correction, as usual. I remember that famous game at Anfield in 1973, when Pat Jennings (the greatest Spurs keeper of all time, no question) saved two penalties to give us a 1-1 draw, and Gilly, strangely, was playing in midfield, and scored our goal - Bill Nick was getting desperate by then, but Gilly rose to the occasion - a true one-off, and certainly a genuine Tottenham legend.

For me he was an unsung hero. Over shadowed by the phenomenal Chivers but the truth was, without Gilzean there would have not been a phenomenal Chivers at Spurs!

And all associated with the club and those that stood on the terraces then knew that!

    R.I.P Mr Gilzean.

So many rumours so little action!

We have seriously challenged once for the title and I believe had we been at The Lane for 2017/18 we would have been the ones pushing City all the way. Plus we have qualified for CL these past 3 seasons with our current crop and represented ourselves well (CL) last season.

An there lies the frustration!! I think you strengthen when at your strongest and the removal of some of the peripheral deadwood, the likes of NKoudon, Lorente, Onamah, Sissoko and Lamela for me would part fund 2-3 top draw players, the likes of Martial or Zaha, Rakitic, maybe the boy De-Ligt.

I want acquisitions who will challenge our starting 11. Not just replace one bench warmer for another. That imo is how you progress to the next level.

I'm just hoping deals for one or 2 names from the in's and outs above are already 85% done!

It's not worth worrying yourself over felon as we are all resigned to the fact that big money big name marquee esque signings or ones that will improve the 11 simply won't be happening anytime soon. To improve the 11 you are looking at 50m plus per signing.
It's going to be a case of clearing the decks of deadwood and Toby and or Rose to raise funds, and reduce the wage bill to pay for a stadium severely lacking the naming right monies. The deadwood will then be replaced with the likes of foyth C. Vickers W. Peters winks sterling etc. Think putting faith in the youth is Pochs perception of being brave. Could see maybe Grealish coming in and J Rodriguez and possibly a left bk if Rose leaves. After that I wouldn't raise hope. Could see a big name leaving each year for the foreseeable future...

Media reports (I know! Pinch of salt and all that!) say Utd have had new encouragement from Spurs regards Alderweild. Ok, if the boy is set on going and the supposedly 120k we have offered him ain't good enough for him the let him go. BUT! If we sell him to Manure without getting Martial to The Lane as part of the deal, then I for one will be (****ing livid) jolly annoyed!!
