Lots of last minute headlines being thrown around. It’s either 5 more players in or none- interesting next 48 hours

God knows what truth (if any) there is in all these stories about Dybala, Coutinho, Lo Celso, Uncle Tom Cobbleigh and all, but, to repeat my earlier post, it certainly doesn't add-up to a planned transfer strategy in anyone's book, not even Harry Redknapp's.
We've potentially got glaring defensive problems if Rose and Alderweireld choose to leave, as well as continuing chronic injury problems throughout the squad, yet we're apparently looking at astronomically expensive marquee signings which will add to the difficulty of accommodating Kane, Moura and Son, Pochettino having conspicuously failed to address it, as his mistaken team selection for the CL Final showed.
If any of these signings actually come off, it'll no doubt be greeted as evidence of Levy's ambition for, and commitment to the club, but where will it leave the 'project', supposedly based on developing young players, and playing with a philosophy very different from that of our rivals? Without fresh blood, on-field progress clearly stalled after 2017, but will the introduction of three or four new players at one fell swoop really turn us into contenders for the big prizes? History suggests not, but we'll see.

Does anyone think Tottenham will sign Dybala or Coutinho on the wages they want if they do they are deluded. The press love to. Build up the tension and fool the more gullible supporters into thinking Tottenham are going to change their philophesy. We want a loan where somebody else pays the wages. Please Levy sign Celso Fernandes. And Sessegnon and break the habits of a lifetime. If we do not strengthen I would not be surprised if Villa turn us over on Saturday. We are in champions league but players seem to prefer the arse scum which is pretty depressing. My optimism when the transfer window opened has been drained away by Levy’s brinkmanship as the rest of the world sussed him ages ago

I thought we were supposed to be getting players in to cover and create competition for places. Now if we get marquee signings in, that is not a good thing as it will create difficulties fitting people in?!?!. Isn’t that exactly what everyone was complaining about and saying that we had a weak bench !

Although I agree it would be much better to have everyone bought early, just because they arrive later doesn’t mean they weren’t the essential plan in the first place Unfortunately it’s not like shooting down your local Tesco, negotiations have to be made, players have to be sold. If alds rose and erricsen don’t get people buying them then that can change things

Exactly that. We need a scenario where we actually improve on the first 11 so players like eriksen winks alli sissoko are fighting for a place and sit on the bench for a while until performance levels are raised. When injury hits we aren't necessarily weakened and we have the players available to rotate to avoid fatigue and injury.

I meant to point-out the apparent 180 degree swing from building a team based on nurturing young players and having a playing philosophy (which is usually what Levy/Pochettino fans put forward in the face of criticism of the lack of trophies and of ambition) to a splurge on anyone available, regardless of their effect on the balance of the team, or of the morale of individuals like Son and Moura who might lose out. It now looks as if Coutinho and Dybala were the fantasies most of us suspected, but it still looks to me as if our squad is a mess, and if Pochettino honestly believes that it's so difficult for foreign players to come to a city like London and join a club like Spurs without needing months or years to find their form, then Ndombele and whoever might follow him before the window closes today won't be turning us into serious contenders anytime soon. That's what I meant to say - perhaps I should have said it.

Well 5pm came and went and whilst "sources" suggest that Sessingnon and Lo Celso are done, there's nothing from the Club that I can see.
Those two are the minimum we needed. Dybala was never on this late in the window, after Juve missed out on Lukaku. No RB, no striker. Oh dear. It's going to be a long season.....

    I think that’s a good transfer window

Lo celso and Ndombele are very good players. Ryan to be brought through

If we lose people in the next month to European clubs that will change things but overall very good

Right back a bit of an issue but I think the idea was Foyth to move on there (shame about injury)

I'd play Sissoko there, Winks and Ndombele holding. Foyth only on the bench.

Pleased with the 3 new members but our leaky defence completely ignored. We have spent 90 million but will probably get this back when ericson and aldy are sold to Spanish clubs.I know we have had to pay a fee for the loan and we spent on the young Leeds lad before loaning him back but spurs will once again probably break even when arsenal and Everton have been breaking the bank to improve.Luis to arsenal for peanuts when he would have been great for us as a holding midfielder and fill in defender.Maybe Sissoko can be converted to a full back until Foyth is back.

With an obligation/option to buy next year.

It means we were able to thrash the deal through so Betis could get around paying PSG the 20% sell-on clause. As one Twitter user explained it perfectly:

PSG get 20% of the profit from the sale of Lo Celso so they’ve ‘loaned’ him for a fee of 16 million. PSG get none of that as not a sale. Spurs must purchase him next summer for 40 mill PSG get 20% of the profit which is 15 mill as Betis paid 25 mill. 20% of the profit is £3 mill

The question is as has always got to be after the window closes and the season about to begin-

    Do we look any better?

    Dombele fills the Dembele hole
    Lo Celso is CEs replacement
    Sessegnon is Roses replacement

(The latter 2 when they happen)

All 3 will need to have the bedding in period with only Sessegnon with any experience of the prem who failed really to make a mark.

At best this is standing still.

And if anyone wanna wax lyrical about how great the signings are and how Poch was backed n got his targets then he has no excuses this season , 6 years stable squad full of un- improvable stars and now a window with his choices delivered what's possibly holding us back???

We are now regulars in the CL. We are signing players that can reach the top. Developing quality youngsters. Have training facilities and a stadium better than anyone else. The list goes on. None of this would have been without Levy. We would still be mid to lower table without him.

Nobody knows where spurs would be without Levy, a different owner may have done even better, it's a silly argument. Lifting one trophy in 19 years is nothing to write home about.
I am interested in how Mp, makes a team out of the players signed and where they play, hopefully it's not another season of square pegs in round holes.

I was curious how you would spin this one Felon. Glad to see you didn’t disappoint

We dont buy anyone and it’s going backwards, we buy a few and it’s standing still. I guess next window it’s 20 in 20 out and we are moving forwards

A different owner could also have bankrupted the club. Patience is key. Atleast now, we are headed in the right direction, let's be supportive!

Living rent free in your thoughts still VoR?

No spin just reality, if this eternal waiting for potential to come to fruition while it ages leaves and is replaced without winning anything , while dancing around cheering every reason why we don't win anything floats yer boat then great for you I'm sure you won't be let down.

For grown ups that can actually see the glaring deficiencies in the squad (that have again been ignored) and whom have the bizarre notion sport is about winning trophies/titles/medals it's a different outlook I'm afraid.

What will be the excuses this year ?
