A report in Spain has emerged stating that Tottenham had scouts at Valencia’s 4-0 win over Elche on Friday night.

Super Deporte claim that we have an eye on a number of the Mestalla club’s players, with potential to raid the La Liga outfit this summer in a bid to strengthen our squad.

Valencia have been in superb form since the turn of the year and are looking very likely to finish in La Liga’s top four - they are currently third; four points behind Real Madrid and one ahead of Atletico.

There is certainly a chance that Spurs may well have had scouts attending the fixture on Friday, but it remains to be seen who they were watching.

Super Deporte state that three players are of particular interest to Mauricio Pochettino’s men; Sofiane Feghouli, Dani Parejo and Shkodran Mustafi.

    Feghouli

Feghouli showed at the World Cup in the summer that he has excellent technique and could well be an exciting addition at White Hart Lane.

As he is Nabil Bentaleb’s international team-mate, the Algerian schemer would have inside knowledge of the North London club and with the versatility to play anywhere across the three attacking midfield berths in our 4-2-3-1 formation, would add strength in depth.

With Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela not exactly impressing, I would welcome the playmaker to the club with open arms, but if we are looking at Algerian attacking midfielders, Yacine Brahimi of Porto would be a more rounded and higher quality addition.

    Parejo

Spanish midfielder Parejo is a skilful and cultured central midfielder with an excellent range of passing an a knack for getting forward from the centre of the park.

Although his role in the Valencia is essentially as the heartbeat of the team’s possession, the 25-year-old has also contributed nine La Liga goals this term.

The Spaniard is Valencia’s captain, and like Feghouli is out of contract in 2016 - as such it is likely that something will happen one way or the other with these two midfielders this summer.

    Mustafi

Although Nicolas Otamendi has been gaining the plaudits in Valencia’s defence this season, Mustafi has also been a stellar performer and has proven himself as an international-quality centre-half.

With the versatility to play right-back and still only 22 years old, the Germany international would be an excellent signing for Spurs that would add authority, presence and good reading of the game to a back four that has been deplorable in recent weeks.

However, with the former Sampdoria star still having four years left on his contract and a crucial member of coach Nuno’s side, prying him away from the Spaniards could be tricky.

    Others?

Of other players that Spurs could have been watching, I would love us to be ambitious and try to sign progressive left-back Jose Gaya.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation this season in his breakthrough campaign, with solid defensive abilities, excellent prowess on the ball and wicked crosses.

Marca readers voted Gaya in their La Liga team of the season at the halfway stage, while Real Madrid have been linked with the full-back.

Although Danny Rose has been in much better form of late, Gaya would be an incredible addition to offer competition for places; the pair could even play together down the left hand side…

    Verdict

    A number of questions emerge.

All three/four of the afore-mentioned players are impressive targets and would clearly have the skills and experience to offer quality to Spurs.

However, with Valencia looking likely to get Champions League football next term and us more than likely destined for the Europa League, in lies a problem.

The Mestalla club have had financial problems in the past but with new owner Peter Lim bankrolling the Spaniards, they have no need to sell players they don’t want to.

Plus, with our new found policy of trusting youth team graduates rather than imports, do we want more foreign players, and especially from the same club that we handed over £28-odd million to for Roberto Soldado?

Our Transfer business has been appalling, i dont trust Levy will release any significant funds nor Baldini to spend the peanuts well.
We will not be making the next level for a long time trusting in only academy players.
Need 2 Experienced Solid imposing CBs, 2 FBs with intelligence, A quality DM general, 2 quality wide men, and at least another top Striker if we are to be serious about moving forward or achieving anything!

We have recently revamped our scouting staff being lead by Paul Mitchell (formerly Southampton). So far we've added the likes of Rob Mackenzie (former Leicester Head of Technical Scouting) and Adrian Esparraga (former Malaga scout) and possibly some others.

I'm a lot more confident in our future transfer business with our seemingly new focus on proper scouting.

Funds are going to be tight for the next few years with this new stadium been built so id imagine anyone expecting major spending or major changes in playing staff is going to be disappointed .. look the stadium has to be a priority if we are ever going to have the chance to compete financially with the big boys .. Sacrifices are going to have to be made in the short term .. Its not what us fans want to here but we have to be realistic about it .. Weather we like to hear it said or not THFC in todays world under its current restrictions is a small club and can only get so far ..

Prefer our targets to be prem proven and preferably British if not English. Clyne alderweirld john stones defensive wise and offensively jay Rodriguez berahinho miralles. Schneiderlin McCarthy Barkley for central mid targets.
