Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Sevilla defender Federico Fazio as Mauricio Pochettino looks to add another defender to his squad.

The Argentine head coach has been trying to sign Villarreal’s Mateo Musacchio but thus far, no agreement between Spurs and the Spanish club has been forthcoming.

    Attention turns to another Argentine

Therefore the White Hart Lane club have switched their attention to Fazio, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Telegraph report Tottenham were confident of signing Musacchio but ownership issues have made the deal too difficult to complete.

As the transfer window closes shortly, Spurs have little time to add to their squad but they are confident a deal for Fazio can be completed.

Fazio is also Argentinian and has had a successful seven years with Sevilla but the opportunity to move to the Premier League could be too hard to turn down.

    €10 million buy-out clause

In addition to this news, ABC Sevilla report Tottenham would be willing to pay the €10 million buy-out clause in Fazio’s contract.

This news is backed up by Metro as well, who report Spurs have £8 million ready to offer for the services of the 27-year-old defender.

    New contract on the horizon

Metro also state, however, that Sevilla are preparing to offer the defender a new contract in an attempt to keep him with the club.

Whether or not Fazio will accept that new contract isn’t yet clear but with Spurs desperate to add another defender it seems developments with this transfer will occur rapidly.

As the transfer window shuts next week we can expect further news regarding this deal and Pochettino will hope he can secure the signature of the defender as he looks to put the finishing touches to his squad for the 2014/15 campaign.

27 y.o. CB? How does that address the RFB need for the Spurs Musacchio was targeted for? Unless MP uses Dier there, that would be a depth signing. I know you never have enough quality CBs, but to move for 27 year old... Did anyone see that lad in action?
