Musacchio back in Villarreal training; likely resolution on Thursday.

Last week it seemed Mauricio Pochettino was set to add Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio to their ranks, however things has changed rapidly and the Argentine could now remain with his current club.

Tottenham Hotspur were said to be confident of signing the defender for around £17 million, according to the Evening Standard. Now, though, it seems the youngster could remain in Spain with his current club offering him a pay rise.

Villarreal pulling out all the stops

Spurs were willing to treble his current £20,000 salary but Villarreal are now going to try and increase his current deal and the defender could even feature for them in a match this week.

A positive for Pochettino and co is that Musacchio is training again with the Spanish side, therefore if he was to still make the switch to White Hart Lane he wouldn’t be too far behind the rest of the playing group in terms of fitness.

Friendly the clincher?

The negative, however, is that he could play in their match on Thursday against US Sassuolo and were he to do that you would imagine he would stay with his current side.

If he is named in the squad for their friendly match then it would suggest he has been welcomed back into the first team fold and can continue his career with the Yellow Submarine like normal.

Spurs fans will be eagerly anticipating Villarreal match on Thursday to see if Musacchio features, if he doesn’t then the move could certainly still be on the cards.

Pochettino would dearly love to add another compatriot of his to the squad and the young defender would fit the bill perfectly for the type of player we require.
