Mauricio has a positive selection headache following our midweek triumph over Asteras Tripolis, while Newcastle visit the Lane off the back of their first League win of the season.

Alan Pardew has so far survived the chop as Chairman Mike Ashley stands by his manager, despite huge scrutiny from the Magpies support, but their victory at home to Leicester last week will have significantly helped his cause.

Last time the sides met Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice along with Paulinho and Nacer Chadli as we won 4-0 at St James’ Park, however a Lloris-less Spurs lost 1-0 in the home fixture thanks to on-loan Loic Remy.

A victory can put Spurs 6th in the table as long as Man United fail to beat Chelsea, while a 5-0 win could put us ahead of Arsenal in 5th.

    Team News

Harry Kane was the man of the night as he scooped the match ball in our 5-1 Europa League win on Thursday, meaning the England U21 striker could be in with a shout of the starting eleven this weekend.

With Adebayor and Soldado misfiring, it has been hard to ignore Kane who kicked off the scoring with a 25-yard drive before finishing off two more fluid moves, however the decision lies with Mr Pochettino.

Kane could come in as a number 10, pushing Christian Eriksen to the wing in place of Nacer Chadli, or sub in for Soldado who played as a lone striker in our 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

The Boss has no fresh injury concerns for the clash, with Nabil Bentaleb and Kyle Naughton both suffering from ankle complaints while Kyle Walker continues his recovery from pelvic surgery.

He will, however, be without Federico Fazio who was sent off at the Etihad, so Jan Vertonghen is expected to play his second game in a week.

    Opposition Watch

Gabriel Obertan scored just his second ever league goal for Newcastle in their first win in 8 Premier League games against Leicester, however they could be without in-form Papiss Cisse who has a knee problem.

Cisse has 4 goals in as many games, supplying exactly half of the Toon’s goals all season. Their performances have seen them slip into the relegation zone – sitting in 18th with 4 draw and 3 losses joining their solitary win – however another win can see them rise to 13th.

Their injury list consists of the likes of Emmanuel Riviere, Mike Williamson, Paul Dummet, Sammy Ameobi and Cheick Tiote, while Ryan Taylor is back after 26 months out with cruciate ligament injuries.

    What They Said

Striker Harry Kane: “The Premier League is the biggest league in the world – the one where everybody is watching," he said. "You want to get your goals in the Premier League but at the moment, every time I get the chance, I have just got to do what I can and try to get myself some goals.”

Manager Mauricio Pochettino: “They have very good players [Newcastle]," Pochettino told Spurs TV. "Maybe in the beginning of the season it was difficult for them, but in the last game they got the three points at home. That means they are coming here with confidence, but we need to show a good performance and try to win the three points. We play at home in front of our supporters and we hope that we have a very good performance and get the three points."

    Wear White for Bill

The game against Newcastle has been earmarked as a memorial game for our greatest ever manager, Bill Nicholson. Nicholson managed Spurs’ best ever side, which won the League and FA Cup Double in 1961, and the European Cup Winner’s Cup in 1963, but sadly passed away on the 23rd October 2004.

In memory of the great man, the Club have urged anybody attending the game in N17 wears white in homage to “Mr Tottenham Hotspur”.

Im not liking the idea of Kane as a number 10. I would rather have Soldado play a DF, with Kane at the top, as I believe Soldado has better technique and vision of the game - he will work out better at the offensive mid.

We need a win today, which means an offensive lineup is needed. Chadli has been playing very well lately and should be a starter. I like Mason, but Capoue is the better choice to me. I'd like to see the following players start today (4-1-3-1-1 / 4-4-2 / 4-5-1):

Lloris; Dier Vertonghen Kaboul Rose; Capoue ; Lamela Eriksen Chadli; Soldado (DF) ; Kane

Adebayor starts!!!??? I do not get it, I really don't. He has done nothing in the last few games to warrant that starting place, nothing. Kane deserved his chance to start today and if I were him, I would be really p***sed off to not start today. Hopefully Adebayor will prove me wrong today and score, but I am baffled as to why he is continually picked when his efforts on the pitch simply do not warrant a starting place.
