Once Kyle Walker returns the dynamic within the Spurs team will change considerably. Like I have said before, having two athletic, adventurous and attack-minded fullbacks is HUGELY important when playing in a 4231, using two inverted wingers, for all the reasons I have stated previously.

Walker would have been a massive part of Pochettino's plans this season and his return from injury will come as a significant boost for the Argentine.

Teams that play with two inverted wingers generally play with the types of fullbacks I have mentioned.

    Barca - Alves, Alba

    Real - Carvahal, Marcelo

    Arsenal - Gibbs, Debuchy

    Bayern- Alaba, Lahm

    Etc, etc, etc

There is no coincidence. Having fullbacks that can frequently/consistently offer attacking options further upfield is IMPERATIVE to adding to the cohesion, fluidity and attacking philosophy of any team deploying similar tactics to ourselves (Spurs).

With all due respect to Naughton and Dier neither man is particularly adept at challenging the oppositions defence like a Kyle Walker can.

What tends to happen, in set-ups like Pochettino's, is the fullbacks stretch the opposing teams, affording the (more conventional type of) offensive players more space to exploit, as well as extra time to focus on attacking the areas on the field where they can do the most damage.

The whole team team will benefit from having a fit Walker offering them another option/threat down the right.

They were not supposed to play together as their tactical assignments were different. Adebayor role was to get involved in play buildups when with the ball and cross ( Mason's job, but is not that good crossing) or when Spurs counter and he is w/o the ball to move Mertesacker away from his position to unclog the center for Chadli and/or Lamela. Chadli was doing what Soldado usually does - get open, receive, score - which he did, but Soladado cannot tackle reliably, hence choice was for Chadli who can and, in fact, could do it in very defensive arrangement Spurs had.
By that design Ade was playing with no service being a false target for Wenger, while Chadli was the surprise receiver. It worked, although Ade looked bad.
