News that Southampton man Morgan Schneiderlin could snub Arsenal to join Spurs could make the French midfielder one of the most popular players to ever wear the Lilywhite shirt.

Reports have claimed that the 24-year-old, who represented his country at this summer’s World Cup, could ignore the burning interest from the red side of London in order to join up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

£16million was the quoted price for Schneiderlin, and that was the fee supposedly offered by Arsenal in their search for a solid defensive midfielder.

However the Daily Mail claim that Schneiderlin rates the Argentine highly and credits him with developing his game last season, which culminated in his selection for the World Cup.

He has already had Spurs fans on high alert, and no doubt had some fun while doing so, when he briefly followed the club’s official Twitter page to the excitement of everybody who noticed. The Frenchman subsequently unfollowed the account, but whether or not the act meant anything remains to be seen.

The act of turning down the supposedly more attractive prospect of joining the Gooners would mean he would follow in the footsteps of players such as Jan Vertonghen, whose burning desire to join Spurs two summers ago made us fall in love instantly.

We are a sucker for someone who loves the club, as we have seen with the likes of Scott Parker, Sandro and Lewis Holtby in recent times, and anybody who chooses us over them will immediately be bombarded with affection.

This is a rumour at present of course but in fairness, I have seen this linked with Sky Sources and Sky do seem to get plenty right. I hope this is correct but he is a great player. I saw him last season and he was an unsung hero. COME ON YOU SPURS

PS: Welcome to the forum and excellent article! :)

Although it would be nice to get one over on the arsenal like vorm I'm not sure this is a signing we need as we have a plethora of central MIDs unless of course something is happening with Sandro. As a holding mid Morgan is more of an Alonso type who marks space and intercepts rather than a hard man ball winner and can certainly look after the ball better so maybe a small change in direction is being looked at. The Davies deal looks done almost and the griezmann rumour grows wonder if it would be worth matching his clause to force through a deal.!! Also Liverpool continue to stall over Lovren and maybe this is a deal we can steal a march on! I'm starting to feel a little bit more positive after a slow start to the transfer dealings but you get the impression this summer as opposed to last they are making sure they sign the right player rather than just A player..

Sounds like he'd be a good fit. Nice to take from the Gooners. Still, it's a strange list since Sandro is more valuable as a comedian than as a midfielder and Jan.... Well, it was nice when his pout wasn't hurting us more than his feet ever helped...
