That was a spectators endurance test if you follow Spurs that is.

    What a Dire lacklustre display.

First of all credit to Newport who had a game plan and were organised/hungry from the off.
There was no hoof and hope from them and they weren't thugging their way through it either.

They pressed in packs, were quicker/sharper to the ball and 2nd balls and deservedly took the lead before half time.

We on the other hand looked sluggish, uninterested, lightweight, disjointed, clueless ........ i could go on.

The second half came and we began to be able to string more than 2 passes together even if by extreme snail pace maybe due to Newport tiring or maybe because 1 or 2 decided to actually turn up for us.

Approaching 70 minutes and we hadn't had 1 shot on target against a league 2 side that really is awful.

Alli came on as the realisation was starting to dawn that we actually had to score came to the team.

After some traditional huff n puff we got a corner. The only plus was Eriksen wasn't on to take it as it was whipped in and actually found a lillywhite, Son with the flick and Harry in true Predatory style found himself unmarked at the far post to score an equaliser. It was probably the only mistake Newport made all game and it cost them especially with HK in the box.

So an unwanted replay at Wembley maybe even a get out of jail from us today.

The team selection was shocking, with a 1st half performance to match. KWP had a shocker and being hauled off so early will have done nothing for his confidence but what can we expect? Motm performance 1st game of the season imagine hed had 2/3games on the bounce he could be a completely different player now but instead hes been cast aside unplayed and then thrown into a lwb position?
Dier at CB just doesn't work- ever!
Dembele and Victor looked so slow and off the pace today.
The Llorente project is a complete flop.

As I said Team Selection was Shocking- a more balanced side could've been picked out of a hat.
As we've clearly not gone for the League this Season (despite Poch making it clear it was his priority) and the fact we've not won a trophy for 10 yes 10 years and the FA cup for 27 years its about time we started taking the cup more seriously. If you are gonna rotate at least still pick a team with a game plan and don't expect players never seen to just turn up and perform coherently.

That was a shoddy performance at its very best and if it were not for Kane carrying us again we'd be the big scalp of the weekend.

    Where do you start.

Dier at CB is a no no, always. Wanyama and W-P had shockers. At least Victor got a chance to get a bad one out of his system.

As with last week we struggled with the surface, should have played 4-2-3-1 not 3-5-2 or whatever it was.

Son should have started, never play a right footed full back at left back, particularly a novice one. Enduring Sissoko is getting very wearing.

There were no plusses from tonight........a hangover from Sunday and Lloris and Eriksen still unwell I guess.....mmm. Showed how limited the squad is.....oh dear!

I quite agree. When i saw the team selection i couldn't believe it, when will managers get it into their heads that it doesn't matter what league your opponent's are from they will give you a game. This is the FA CUP for god's sake. Yes i know we had injuries and sickness but surely POCH could of picked a better team than the one he went for tonight. Did he not see that they beat Leeds and had nothing to lose tonight. You should pick your best available team and this wasn't it.When i was a kid 50 odd years ago it was all about your team getting to Wembley. The FA CUP was massive and still is to most of us . I am totally fed up with these decision's by manager's to treat the fa cup this way as it means a lot to many fan's around the country. RANT over and please poch play our best team in the replay we can win this. COYS.

HMF only, when playing 4 at the back, so 4-2-3-1, otherwise not a squad player perhaps, say Hugo, Aurier, Toby/Sanchez, Verts, Rose, Dier, Wanyama, Son, Eriksen, Dele, Kane. As soon as you go three at the back selection becomes all the more difficult.

Is this going to be another scenario that lacks all logic now for us?

We play a jumbled up weak side in the fa cup, squeek a draw resulting in a replay sandwiched in between a tough run of possible season defining fixtures.
Meanwhile Liverpool only now have 2 things to concentrate on while we will be juggling more. This is worth it only if we now have a right go at the FA cup and dont in further rounds play weak sides against stronger opposition else its a waste of time and detremental to to the rest of our campaign.

Again it goes back to the lack of Directive/Prioritising at the beggining of every season, the lets have a go at all with a paper thin squad and fall short at all.

If your not taking the cups seriously as last night would confirm why play any of our best players at all in them.
If League and CL r the priority save them for that. The scattergun approach is a balancing act that just doesnt work

I wouldn't have believed that Pochettino could become any more pig-headed and arrogant than he already is, but his defence of the hopeless Sissoko shows that his sense of infallibility is positively papal - the rest of us are obviously just too stupid to appreciate what he brings to the team. We're in the home stretch of year four of 'The Project', and I don't see us being any closer to real success than we were a couple of years ago or (whisper it very quietly indeed) seven years back under Redknapp, who got the sack for only finishing fourth in 2012 - presumably Pochettino will get a contract extension if he can manage the same thing this season!

It was a shocking display that's for sure. How much did the conditions contribute? Especially in the second half players were finding it difficult to keep their feet - if you play in those conditions every week its an advantage. Plus the short one-touch play we thrive on resulted in balls skidding and even stopping in the mud - did we practice playing in a cow patch I doubt it? The wind was a factor - sure our practice ground is exposed but just about every premier ground now to some extent is shielded from the wind eh? Yep I know professionals should be able to cope but there was some nervousness out there as it dawned they might actually lose to a much inferior side. Embarrassed Instagrams all round.

I have an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach that the wheels are wobbling off the 'the project' cart. We only really have a starting 11, and IMO we carry several players in that, so when we dip outside that first team we are very weak. Lack of pace and width means that we continually try to go through the middle and so many lower rated teams find it a piece of p@*" to park the bus. We don't consistently have the skill. So frustrated. So angry. So confused about this whole 'project' thing!

Damn right Bruski - don't seem that many we can rely on at any one given time, the squad is made up of one shining star, a few of very good 'uns (when they feel arsed enough to perform) and some downright duds. We aren't going far the way it is - we've peaked with the present crew I reckon.

The thing is Bruski that as low/net zero spenders we have done remarkably well. Having squads like Manure, Sheik City, Cheski can only be achieved with more money that sense. Scousers and the Scum not far behind in spending. Of course I and many others would like us to spend big, but it's not in DL's DNA. The thinness of the squad may come back to bite us, by keeping us out of CL in our first year in the NWHL, but if we stay injury free (HK particularly) then we'll be close....COYS

True and injury free is the key. In Poch's book, Levy says that he has been bitten by big money signings before and so he, and Poch, want to develop talent. That is noble and safe business, it just means that we will never quite have the final full quota of talent to win big and win consistently. We all know why we don't buy top talent. It just means we may always be the nearly boys compared to the teams you mention Bazza47. Really proud of our financial prudence, but at some point Levy has to start buying world class. Big respect to Poch, Levy and Lillywhites.....just so feckin frustrating. COYS.

There has been more moaning about Sissoko again, so let's set the record straight.
Sissoko has started 12 PL games this season (half of the total) and his substitute appearances in minutes are slightly more than his being substituted - so he has played half of the season so far.
His 12 starting games (inc 2 top sides) have gained us 21 points - averaged over a season = 66 points which would have got us 6th, 5th and 5th over the last 3 seasons.
Other 12 games (inc 3 top sides) have gained us 24 points - averaged over a season = 76 points which would have got us 4th, 2nd and 3rd over the last 3 seasons.
We are also up by another 3 points from his being substituted, or his entry into the game losing us points.
Whilst Sissoko has been on the pitch we have scored 17 goals and conceded 13.
Without Sissoko, we have scored 30 goals and conceded 9.
So, we are all correct. Sissoko is worse than ....

Because they have all been poorly thought out and executed.
It actually works out in Mings favour when he spunks 30mil on Sissoko so he can beat the fans with it "see what happens when you spend big"

Nice analysis Johnny.....I can only assume Loch's defence of him is trying to appeal the footballer lost somewhere in his mind.......
